Great place to stay for walks in the Upper Derwent Valley in particular the Derwent Dam for its connection with the Dambuster 617 Squadron. The Yorkshire Bridge Inn has a great number of Dambuster prints on display along with photos of the construction and opening of the dam in the early 1940s.To have the Dambuster squadron motto "Apres Moi le Deluge" above the bar was a great touch.

Nothing to dislike-staff, room, evening bar meal and breakfast all great

While hiking in the Peak District just before New Year, I found my way to the Yorkshire Bridge Inn via Ladybower Dam to be welcomed by some of the most friendly staff I have ever met in an establishment. After a very stormy and wet walk through some of the finest trails in Derbyshire I descended into the valley from Winn Hill to get booked in. First impressions as you walk into the bar and lounge are a lovely welcoming parlour of atmospheric fire light glow with a cheerful mix of patrons all chatting and supping in a traditionally styled set up. Muddy boots and dogs welcomed although blue foot wraps are suggested at the main doors. The angled bar means plenty of access to order food and drinks without waiting too long even when the pub is busy, as is usually the case in summer. Upon booking in I met an adorable bar maid who kept me talking longer than I probably should, although the bar was quiet enough to afford her time away. She already had the key to my room even though she didn’t know my name yet which confused me until I found out that Christmas Weekend is usually calmer than later in the year and that there were a few guests staying and I was last to book in. The room was delightful, neat and clean, a comfy armchair in the corner, delicious biscuits with the complementaries. A boot box for dirty footwear, a compact but accessible bathroom and control of the heating which was nice. The bed was comfortable and had crisp sheets, my room gave me a view of Winn Hill which tied in nicely with my reason for visiting the valley this trip. The next morning a nice waiter chatted about the hotel, as well as the fact that Christmas was slow due to the weather and families spending time at home. Saying I had the whole dining area to myself during breakfast. After checking out I spent some time talking to the manager who was a lovely chap, discussing local hiking routes and the state of the world. A very welcoming and hospitable hotel and public house.

There was no negatives to staying at the Yorkshire Bridge Inn

The room was a good size, as described and exactly what we where looking for. Two entrances, one from inside the Inn, and a second private entrance, opening out onto the quiet rear car park of the premises. If we ever stay here again I will certainly try to book room 15 again. Also loved the shower over the bath. I hate showers that have hardly any pressure and just dribble out. No such issue in our room, the water pressure was phenomenal. Wife wasn't keen but I loved it ! Room and beds where clean apart from one small exception (see frowny face part of review below) and well maintained, but only a nit picking issue and certainly wouldn't stop us from booking a stay here again. Breakfast had good selection. Coffee, tea, juices and cereals, and then a choice of cooked options. Only had the full English once during our four night stay, very filling and the black pudding was indeed worth its award. Only thing lacking was a selection of pastries, but again that would not deter us from staying there again. Didn't eat in the restaurant during our stay so can't really give an informed comment on the evening meals. All in all a great central location, literally five minuets walk to Ladybower Reservoir's south dam, to explore the Peak District from, and all at a very competitive price, offering in our opinion, great value for money.

Only two (or three) things that could IMHO be improved upon. Nothing major. First I would have preferred to have had a chair in the room to sit and lean back in, not just a stool. I don't like sitting on the bed (I always tend to slip down on a bed), and with just a stool I couldn't sit properly anywhere in the room. Even if it was just a low chair that would have fitted under the desk (like to stool did). The other tiny niggle was the wall mounted air humidifier/cooling unit. It could have done with a bit of a dusting in the air vent filters, and also some instructions on how to operate it, together with its remote control would have been nice, All in all not a game changer, just really observations.

The staff was amazing, friendly, helpful, very pleasant. The dinner options were fantastic and breakfast was superior. I'd been eating Full English for two weeks, but changed up to their smoked salmon, with poached eggs with hollandaise on and English muffin and it was phenomenal...

Not really a dislike, but a suggestion. The Ladybower Trout dinner with gnocchi was fantastic, but there is so much wonderful tomato and basil sauce left over. If they would add some bread like the focaccia or ciabatta bread from the bred plate this dinner would be highly superior...

The lady who helped with check-in could be the friendliest person if she smiled a bit more. Cheer up always, okay? You are very charming! We are grateful that she allowed us to check in about 25 minutes earlier than scheduled. This was a huge help after almost 5 hours of hiking. The room is cozy, quiet, very clean, and has a private entrance. It’s also environmentally friendly, with fresh milk provided. The location is perfect. It’s close to Bamford Edge, Stanage Edge, and Ladybower Reservoir. Free parking is great.

We liked our room which had everything we needed to enjoy our short stay and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast menu had alot of choices to choose from which accounted for everyones tastes and the service was very good. For the evening meals, there was a large menu and a specials board to choose from which was good and the prices were reasonable . The food was quick served and of good quality which we were pleased about. Overall, it was a well run hotel and we would definately come back here again.

The only complaint we had during our stay at this hotel was that the bedroom pillows were too uncomfortable and flat so it made for an uncomfortable nights sleep each evening.

The room was easy to access from the lower car park, it was clean, plenty of space and a super comfy bed. Staff were very friendly and professional. We walked from the hotel around Ladybower reservoir and were allowed to park up earlier than check in time which was very helpful. Breakfast was substantial and very tasty, both the buffet and served cooked breakfast. Good menu choices. We were going to take bikes and wished we had because along the roads were ample bike paths so very safe and the rest of the bike trails were off road.

We ordered evening meal of pies and chips which was well presented, but the chips were overcooked (almost black) and not to my taste although my husband enjoyed them.

I should've filled this out sooner. What I remember is that breakfast was really good and parking was easy. The location was very pretty, but unfortunately we were just having a quick overnight stay. There were travel books available to take to your room, which was nice.

The only thing I can remember is that the bathroom had an odor, so we just ran the fan all night and kept the door closed. Also, it might have been our problem, but the sat nav didn't take us directly to the inn. We were lost and went up some interesting wrong roads.

The food waste really tasty! The dinner I had was great, just wish there was more of it and the breakfast was fit for a king! The dinning room is well lit with natural light and the décor is very cozy. The staff here made it even more enjoyable as they were very accommodating

It's really hard find something I didn't like about this property. My room was next to the entrance where stock arrived in the morning, so I was slightly disturbed, but I am a light sleeper. Thankfully the bed was super comfy so I was able to go back to sleep

The room was reasonably sized and very comfortable. All amenities were as described, and the daily supply of hand-crafted shortbread was a nice touch. Breakfast was excellent. With its excellent location in the middle of the Peak District, I definitely recommend the Yorkshire Bridge Inn.

The service in the pub was struggling a bit at peak times and wait times were therefore a bit long. But just goes to show how popular the place is.
