The best value for money I've ever experienced. We got a gorgeous 4 poster bed with a large bathroom, both continental and full English breakfast and a 3 course meal for £75.00 each. Location is around a mile from the city centre, approximately 20 minute walk.

Some of the facilities in the room need maintenance. The parking is very tight. First come, first serve basis. But for such a central location to even have a carpark is unique. Just leave early, leave your car and let the staff know and go and explore the city until check in.

Beautiful building with lots of character and charming rooms fitting with the age. Location ideal as out of city but easy walk . Breakfast was good, nice selection on buffet table and full cooked English cooked to order. Fan was provided in the room without needing to ask, which was considerate. Everyone on the team seemed happy to be there, and Angela was a lovely host. We stayed in a 4 poster room, which was idyllic, and made me feel like I was on holiday even for our 1 night stay.

Nothing worth raising with the owners, woken by a door banging shut early hours probably the wind caught it.

The management was friendly and helpful. The room was clean, and had everything essential in it, and the bed was comfy. I had a perfectly cooked and delicious steak, with trimmings, and lovely hand-cooked chips, for dinner one night, very good value indeed, and the little bottles of wine from the bar were surprisingly good, very, even, and also good value at 2 for £10.

It is an old building and so there was quite a lot of noise, from creaky floors and poor insulation but really, nothing much worse than you might get from large modern hotels.

The hotel is within walking distance of Chester City Centre and the bus stop for Chester Zoo. The room was clean and spacious and the showers etc worked well. The four poster bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was more than adequate in quantity and quality - we especially liked the scrambled egg and smoked salmon. The coffee was excellent. This is a friendly, family run hotel and the service was excellent. The price was reasonable. We would certainly recommend to others and stay there again ourselves.

Due to fire regulations, one of the doors on the way to our room opened in a way that my partner, who is visually impaired, found challenging. However, the proprietress was most understanding and helpful and showed her a way to our room which avoided this issue. The siting of the offending door and how it opened are mandated by fire regulations and so are not the hotel's fault. But the hotel went the extra mile to overcome an issue not of their making to our satisfaction.

Good location. Only 15 mins walk into Chester centre. Car park at rear of hotel. Hotel clean and tidy and lovely seating area downstairs to relax in. Nice breakfast.

Booked a superior room. Shower was above a bath (all the pictures show a walk in shower). There was lack of choice and supply with the tea/coffee facilities and only 1 small biscuit. At breakfast a member of staff asked if we wanted any housekeeping doing in our room, I requested the tea/coffee etc to be replemished and some clean cups. This was not done. Curtains when shut did not hang very well and one hung lower than other. Therefore this was not a "superior" room at all. This was the only disappointing part of our lovely weekend.

Near to chester town & the racecourse which was the purpose of the & only a 10 minute walk.

room was lovely but was let down by the lack of detail by the cleaner. The bedside cabinets where dusty on the ledges of the drawers & base and the skirting boards dusty, cobwebs in corner of the dressing table. Net curtain ripped & dirty, these details are cosmetic but important to the overall stay. The mattress when you get into bed you feel as though your rolling into each other. The price we paid for an executive double was increased as it was the weekend of Chester races which we knew we had to pay but would expect the room to be cleaned properly. Sorry for the negativity but on the plus side the breakfast was fantastic, hot & staff friendly & lovely.

I loved how friendly the staff was and how they made my wife and myself feel at-home and very welcome, especially for my wife, for what they did for her as she turned 60. The room was perfectly a lot bigger than I thought it would be and it was cleaned every day. I'd highly recommend them to anyone like I say the staff are so friendly and the hotel is very clean and the food is very tasty and if you like a cooked breakfast like myself. I will be back. Thank you so much for giving my wife and myself such a good memories. Thank you Linda & John

I can honestly say I have nothing to say that I didn't like because my hole stay was perfect

Warm friendly welcome on arrival, to a complimentary room upgrade, which was then moved to a ground floor lovely room, as I have mobility problems and the receptionist had noticed this. The room was lovely and warm, as was the big bathroom. Clean and aired and well furnished. After unpacking and getting ready to go out for the afternoon/evening, we had a drink in the hotel bar/lounge area, clean and comfortable. Outstanding choice for breakfast, all staff friendly and accommodating to our needs. Great freshly cooked to order hot breakfast, served as quickly as this allows. After being out in the city all the next day we ate in the hotel restaurant, which we would highly recommend. The menu is limited, which helps to keep the cost down and the freshness spot on. Nothing is too much trouble, the food again cooked fresh to order, arriving promptly, hot and delicious and excellent value. Good car park, situated in a nice residential area, so calm and quiet and a short walk into the city centre. A fabulous, independent family run hotel. Highly recommended.

The only thing we could complain about is the horrible weather, which was windy, rainy, hailstones and whatever else Mother Nature had to throw at us. This didn't dampen our enjoyment, as there are plenty of shops or pubs to nip into until the deluge stops. Plus, we got to return to our lovely warm, dry comfortable hotel, to change out of the wet clothes, in a fully serviced warm room and have a relaxing drink in the bar followed by dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Location was really good, well within walking distance of city centre. Lovely flat walk. Hotel in a safe area. Garden was lovely to relax in with a glass of wine in the evening.

Ordered poached eggs for breakfast which, on the 1st morning were undercooked and only just edible. The 2nd morning they weren't even edible. The 3rd morning the eggs, again poached, were really good and well cooked. Even the waitress commented how good they looked on the 3rd morning. We wondered if it was a different chef.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful upon arrival and during the stay. Our party booked 4 rooms, which were spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable. Three of our rooms were on the ground floor, the fourth on the second floor. All rooms were spacious and had ample storage. The reception area had lots of sofas for guests to use, which is where we had a nightcap at the end of our evening. The breakfast was freshly cooked and cooked to individual tastes. The property had ample parking at the rear. It was a steady, 10 minute walk into town, so not too far from bars and restaurants. The staff provided us with a list of taxi firms, should we need one at the end of our evening out in Chester. The taxi fare back from the town, that seated all 8 of our party, cost less than £10, so was excellent value for money. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone & will be staying again.

There was nothing that any of our party did not like about our stay - and we all have differing standards!!
