Location is ideal as it is in the middle of Chester centre, room was good (although I would have preferred it if the window wasn't screwed shut) I appreciate that this may be either for safety reasons or due to the air conditioning in the room but some fresh air would have been nice, also a couple of other small things like the tea/coffee being virtually empty when we arrived in the room, also the 'wardrobe' was quite short, so my partners dress (for the races) trailed along the floor in the wardrobe.... On the whole, minor irritations and the whole visit and the staff more than made up for this, would definitely stay here again... Cannot comment on the breakfast as we didn't have it, I'm sure it will have been good, but seemed quite expensive at £22 per person (per night).... I would suggest to people staying to go and get breakfast from a local small business cafe (which we did on both mornings)

Comfy room tv WiFi deep bath and hot excellent location

Lift was tiny but I travelled alone anyway. Radiators where on but not hot. A fan heater was in the cupboard so quick blast of that and toasty room

Hotel is beautiful. Check in and bar staff were polite and professional. We had an exceptional room which we appreciated and was lovely for a special occasion being our anniversary. There was a card and a little box of chocolates on our room which was so a lovely touch. Lovely comfy bed and nice Elemis products in the room.

We did notice that 3 glasses which we spotted outside one of the rooms when we arrived were still sat there when we left 2 days later. The bar was closed all day on the Saturday which was really disappointing as we love the old fashioned bar area and really wanted a nightcap before bed. There was clearly a lack of staff, nobody to man the bar but that shouldn’t impact the stay of the guests.

Easy to get to, in the city centre. The breakfast was exceptional, as it includes black pudding and a potato scone frita. You can also specify what type of egg you want, and if you need tomato sauce. The back bacon was excellent. The decor of the breakfast area, made you feel relaxed. Beds at the hotel are really soft and comfy, with free still/sparklng water butt on the landing.

The rooms are dated, mine had some minor faults; such as plug release(s) missing, tap symbols missing, and a leaking shower screen. The lift is a bit of a shock; it's really thin and can only take a few people. It would help if they mopped the floor, every other day, or put an air freshener in there. Besides this the hotel is value for money, you pay for whst you get.

I'd highly recommend the upgrade to a deluxe room (for under tenner), the huge bed, bath robes, elemis products, and lush pillows and duvet were worth it. It's very central and I actually didn't hear any noise from outside. It was very comfy and we will be back. This was our second visit. Staff are nice too. 5 mins walk from racecourse parking. Reasonable prices. Free after 6 till the morning. We paid 12.00 for an afternoon arrival, leaving at 11 the next day.

Small things like fixing the hook on the back of the bathroom door, ensuring the bath plug works so you can have a bath rather than a shower, sorting the temp of the shower so it gets hotter rather than warm, some water (jug, glasses and ice box available) and a fridge would have made it a 10/10. Small things but they are easy fixes.

A character older building in a great location. Attentive reception and excellent catering (breakfast)staff. While the rooms are slightly dated they are immaculately clean with excellent high quality bedding, towels and toiletries. The rooms themselves were exceptionally large and retained some of the original finishings including corner sink sealing rose windows etc. I had an amazingly comfortable and relaxed sleep. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The only criticism is that there were one or two spot stains on the carpet. However you could see that the carpet had been hygienically cleaned. Other than that the room was very clean and to a high standard.

Went for my birthday trip but did notice and have some issues. Our extractor fan wasnt working in the bathroom. It was very hot in our room and struggled opening the window. Looking outside there were also dead birds left to rot in the netting not great for animal lovers as they would have starved to death. The single twin beds had double duvet covers which were too big and sagging off. The shower gel and shampoo wasnt refilled so didnt have any and didnt realise until already in the shower. And the breakfast could have been better as there were no beans and no porridge. The bread had run out too and not refilled. Would have been better to have breakfast until around 10 or 10.30 for people staying for leisure as we had a late night and was tired getting up early.

The location was brillaint,the hotel was warm and cozy,the bed was so nice and soft and the room was lovley.the staff were lovley and friendly.

The hotel bar wasnt open or there was no where sit after an aftroon shopping,my husband had to nip the bar next door and was able to bring us a drink up to our room! Strange set up this to be honest..the bar looked realy nice and comfertable and inviting..if only it had the lights on and was open this would have been nice even to get a nice coffee and sit after the shopping trip! Lovley hotel great location! But like i say we would have loved somewhere to sit for a nice drink or coffee in the hotel.

Great hotel with a large staircase. Check in was at 3 and we were a bit early, thought we would get a drink but the hotel bar doesnt open until 4 so we went elsewhere.. then at 4, it still wasnt open. We upgraded to a suite, 2 televisions, one remote control which didn't work, comfy bed and the extra room was good.. shower was good and decent shampoo etc.. following morning, breakfast, not the best if I am honest, full English ordered, obviously cooked fresh but it took a long time and the bacon and sausage were not the best.. staff throughout the stay were very good, polite and attentive..

Great staff. Tried to call them in the morning to request a lower floor. No-one answered the phone! Very bad. Had to press option 4. Think I got through to the spa. They forwarded a message. Please answer the phone!!!! Guests are important..

People not answering the phone. This is a BASIC requirement. Very poor customer service. Not acceptable . I Spent ages trying to speak to someone. Not acceptable at all. Had to press number 4 to get a message reception. Please train up your basic communication system. Switchboard operator??
