The location was so good. Very pretty and rural yet just a 10min walk if that into the centre of Chester. Room was lovely but shame it overlooked the car park and had to leave curtains drawn most of the time. Staff were amazing though, especially Sian. They couldn’t do enough for us.

The way the room overlooked the car park. That was our only issue really.

Excellent location beside the River Dee, perfect for an evening drink on the terrace in the sun. Saturday was very busy with locals but as residents, we were prioritised for table reservations etc. The Boathouse is walking distance from the city centre sights. A Hop on Hop Off bus stop and the river boat boarding point were only a short walk along the river, conveniently close to an ice cream shop if you had to wait! We didn't need to move the car till we went home. Staff were great, friendly, and helpful. Our room was in a newer block blending in with the riverside theme. It was bright, clean and imaginatively decorated with really comfortable beds. The ensuite shower room was tasteful, spacious and looked freshly tiled.

I struggled with connecting to the wifi. I gave up and used my phone. The room was hot, it was hot and humid outside so not the fault of the hotel. No air conditioning, didn't think we'd need it in September but the hotel had provided a fan which helped.

Nothing was too much trouble. all staff where excellent. The chef , John even gave me some cake to bring home as i complemented him on the cheese and biscuits and the fruit cake which was served as one of the deserts. Best fruit cake I've ever tasted. Such a lovely jester. Nathan, one of the managers was a delight and made us feel very welcome when we signed in. Would def stay there again. Great free parking available and only a 10 min walk to city center. Lovely big fan in the room to keep us cool if needed. Lovely sized bathroom, with fresh towels daily and nice big walk in shower. Bed really comfy, if anything too big ( twins put together) My husband wasn't sure i was in with him! Slept really well.

Only a slight moan, but on the first morning the most lovely fresh fruit was available from the breakfast table. Unfortunately it wasn't available every morning but there was still lots of choice, and cooked breakfast was great. TV signal wasn't brill in the bedroom, kept loosing picture.

I travel every couple of weeks for my work, and stay at many different inns and the like. Have to say, the Boathouse is definitely within my top 5 in the UK. Food was great. Drink was great. Room was fabulous. Bathroom with its modern furniture and walk in shower was perfect. Staff were great. Breakfast was superb. Honestly, this was a great choice and the price didn’t reflect how good this place is. Have paid much more for a lot worse! Highly recommend this place!

There really was nothing that was any real issue at all. If I was really pushed, I’d say that the duvet was a little heavy and the pillows not quite as supportive as I’d like in an ideal world - but please don’t read this as a real criticism!

We loved this hotel and our stay. SO many things exceeded our expectations! To start with, not only did we have free parking throughout our stay but we could charge our EV car on site too. The location is fabulous, right on the river and within easy walking distance of the city so we only needed to move the car to visit the zoo, the rest of the time, we walked everywhere. When we arrived, the restaurant and bar were both really busy and the queue was snaking out of the door. We joined the queue and as soon as the team member who was seating people saw our bags, he welcomed us, escorted us to the check in desk, checked us in and provided keys and information and SUCH a friendly introduction to the hotel, we were blown away! The room was beautiful and so well appointed and the bathroom lovely with a huge walk in shower. It was a very hot day- 28 degrees or so and the hotel provided a powerful fan in the room so we stayed cool and slept really well. We ate dinner, had breakfast and enjoyed drinks during our stay- all excellent and with incredibly friendly and professional service. We cannot praise the hotel enough and will not only recommend it whenever we can, we will also look out for others in the group when we visit the NW in the future! Thank you so much for making our stay so special!

Literally nothing!!!

Good parking outside the rooms, which we had for 24 hours. Easy check in and out. The room is large with glazed screen wall and the shower room is well fitted. Everything we could have asked for. The breakfast in the Boathouse is good, we had eggs benedict and they were lovely. Checked out at 10am but they gave us till 3pm in the car park so we had a chance to walk the city walls and see even more of this fabulous City. Chester is a delightful historic city with brilliant night life. And the Boatside and Riverside Rooms are only a few minutes’ walk from the city walls, Roman amphitheatre and town centre, granted our 1am stagger back along the riverside took a little longer. The nightlife in Chester in excellent and the people were so friendly.

Only disappointment is that the car park has three electric car charging points but none were working. There is good charging at Waitrose about 1.5 mile away.

Breakfast, staff, location (on the river). Bed was very comfortable and nice tea and coffee, bottled water and glasses provided. It was decorated in a nice style. There are not many rooms so breakfast in the morning was relaxed and friendly, not busy.

We booked a cosy double with wet room. This is because it was the only room left (except another much more expensive) for the dates we needed, to join friends of ours. We were in room 2 and they were in 15. We much preferred their room. Ours was smaller and the wet room floor could have looked cleaner . Small tiles with a lot of grout, possibly difficult to clean. Our friends room was stunning

Ideal location very close to City Centre and so easily walkable and being right on river views were great especially watching the rowers. Restaurant/pub needs some refurbishment - chairs very stained and tatty. Staff very pleasant but need some management/guidance at breakfast as most are slow to clear tables and seem to stand around instead of doing this - if you're on a small table you quickly run out of space. Room was very nice though shower needs somewhere to stand/hang shampoo etc as you have to crouch on floor to get it. Shower is slippery and needs shower mat as standard in bathroom (says on sheet you can ask for one). Upstairs rooms look better as you can slide doors open. Room 6 was very warm with only a tiny window that opened - avoid this room as its right next to bin store and staff are toing and froing and rubbish is collected so it can be noisy at times. Only ate there one evening and food was good.

Location was great next to the river and only a short distant from the historic centre. Food was good and the bar and restaurant area had plenty of character

Only went to the bar once to drink as prices were very expensive, shame as location by the river was perfect. Would have spent more time there if prices was more reasonable. Ultimately would have given them more business, as I presume others would, as hardly saw many others in the bar either. Was a during the hot spell and the heated towel rail was permanently on and with only one window room was almost unbearably too hot. A big fan was provided which helped.
