The location was absolute perfection with stunning views across the Ribble Valley towards the magnificent Pendle Hill. Nearby Barley with it's beautiful picnic area and streams is ideal for families and both the Sculpture Trail and Pendle Hill can be accessed from this idyllic hamlet. Having shared use of the hotel garden with one other room was an added bonus. With the lovely room, friendly staff, choice of cuisine and beautiful weather, it all added up to the best mini-break imaginable.
If I were to be pernickety in the extreme, not being able to fully close the bathroom door and minor fluctuations in terms of meal presentation. These do not, however, warrant anything less than an overall marking of 10/10.

Breakfast was excellent. Accommodation was very comfortable; good shower, tea and coffee making facilities. The bed was very comfortable too. Food was excellent. Staff were very friendly, in a genuine kind of way.
Nothing, everything was good. (A very small thing, but more choice of real ales at the bar would have been nice; Bowland Brewery, a local brewery was featured, but only 2, both light pale beers; something darker/malty would have been nice.) I must stress that I would definitely stay here again though, because it was so good.

Upon arrival ( early) our room was actually ready so we could enter without waiting for check in time which allowed us to get ready for the wedding we were attending It was a tiny little cottage and was more than what we were expecting. It had a lovely little lounge area upon the entrance with stairs to the next level for the bedroom & bathroom.
We did call for a taxi through the hotel services and unfortunately the taxi didn't arrive on time for us to attend the wedding so we ended up driving ourselves to the venue. Not the hotels fault of course as the taxi service is not linked to the hotel.

this place is a knockout,a proper pub, super food, excellent room and bathroom, beautifully furnished.great quality without being flash. best of all,a super smiley bunch of people very professionally led by the very capable chris, they really can’t do enough to make your stay a treat. full marks, and i’ve stayed in some very good places over the years.
it would be churlish to nitpick this super spot in a ridiculously pretty village.

The location is stunning, and the room was beautiful, warm and comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast.
In the evening, it was very noisy, with some guests being very drunk and singing loudly in the bar area, where we had been placed for our evening meal. There was some confusion with the staff on our order of a night cap, which my husband asked for 6 times! I had requested hypoallergenic pillows and duvet, because of my asthma, but the duvet and pillows appeared to have duck feathers in them. Apart from the above, we had a wonderful stay.

Absolutely stunning place to stay for exploring the Forest of Bowland area. Beautiful country pub in the picture postcard village of Downham. Our rooms were fantastic and the breakfast was yummy. We had dinner in the pub too, which was also superb. We'd definitely stay here again if we come to the area.
Nothing - it was perfect in every way.

The location is beautiful, the room and bathroom were both spacious and attractive. The pub and dining room were comfortable and cosy. Having our own bit of garden was a lovely surprise.
Breakfast on the first day was a bit of a disaster because of staffing problems. The member of staff covering did her best but didn't know where to find essential items such as cereal bowls.

Loved the spacious well decorated room, the huge bath was fab.The little snug is lovely downstairs in cottage .Food was exceptional ,we opted for a selection of starters and sides for dinner and all were fantastic,we had a beautiful cooked breakfast with top quality ingredients, setting of hotel is so lovely, super quiet too.
Window did not open in room,as it was a hot day/night it was uncomfortable, requested a fan but this was not followed up.Easy fix though, just put a fan in each room as standard.Would not deter me from reccomending or returning.I do appreciate older buildings in the UK are not really set up for extreme temperatures.

A lovely quiet hotel and an idyllic village. Accomodation was spacious, clean and warm. All members of staff we met were wonderfully friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, the bar had interesting local ales and we ate in the restaurant one evening - not as expensive as we had thought but excellent with some local cheeses.
Can't think of anything.
