This hotel hadn't been on booking.com for very long, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Very happy with my stay. Greeted by friendly staff. Room was comfortable and well appointed. The building itself has an interesting history, so worth asking about it. I'll be staying again next time I'm in Derby. Thanks very much

This is a minor issue, but useful to be aware of. I booked through booking.com because the hotel was listed as having parking. In fact it does not as I only found out once I'd booked (it was one of the reasons I booked this hotel). HOWEVER, I found cheap on-street parking via theparkingspace right opposite the hotel, so don't be put off booking. I enjoyed my overnight stay there

Absolutely gorgeous building. The team working here were friendly and approachable. Couldn't fault them at all. Didn't drink here but had breakfast which was decent and included in the price of the room. Lovely big bath towels provided. Seemed to be really good soundproofing. We were staying on the same floor as where a wedding was being held and when the door was closed, didn't really hear much noise at all. Would love to stay again

Room was on the small side but it was comfortable. The curtains are really thick and heavy which keeps the morning sun out if you don't want to be woken up too early but take up a bit of room being bulky plus they were difficult to open and let light in when we wanted it. Not a massive issue though

Great location, stunning building, staff were really helpful.

Just a couple of things that could be quick fixes for them to improve the overall standard - curtain needs some more hooks on the curtain rail so it closes properly. Put netting outside of windows so pigeons don’t start cooing on your windowsill at 6am! Tv aerial wire should be hooked along wall and into rear of tv, rather than literally blocking off the corner of your room! When booking should know if hotel bar wouldn’t be open: we chose this hotel due to having a bar as we had a disabled member of the party who would be more comfortable drinking back at the hotel after our meal out- when we got back at 9.45pm the bar was shut due to an event at the hotel which was disappointing.

Great venue and location. Room was very comfortable and clean. Comfortable bed and really good facilities for the money we paid. Breakfast was really good even if they mucked up our order. The staff were very pleasant and very helpful.

Theres was some confusion over our room where they claimed we had booked room only, but our booking did include breakfast. This was sorted and eventually they agreed to honour the booking with breakfast. A few in our party had to change their rooms where they hadn't been cleaned.and one room wasn't up to standard. But other people in our party were very happy with their rooms and facilities. So the two rooms that weren't cleaned were probably down to a blip in their operation s. We got the impression they are news and there are some teathing problems.

The staff were absolutely lovely, and went above and beyond. The location was perfect and the building is beautiful with lots of character. Complimentary water in the room. It was great to have car parking on the premises, one of the reasons we booked here. Breakfast was delicious.

No food availability in evening when we were there, despite cheerful sign out side offering it. Apparently coming soon, but best to withdraw sign until actually available. After checking with bar staff, we had arrived early enough to have been in the food time-slot had it been on - so not sure why sign was left outside (possibly to encourage hungry hopefuls to get a drink instead!)

I am from Derby originally and visiting so this location was just great for all amenities.

Derby has a lot to offer, yet Booking..com advertised excursions in Nottingham which is a good 20 miles away. In the centre there is the cathedral, the museum of making, which is a new museum, the river gardens, Darley park, Markeaton Park, the quad which is part of Derby University, art gallery and cinema, the Derbian shopping centre which has a lot of designer shops, Sandler Gate and the Strand which are chararistic building's housing loads if resturants, bars, and shops. If you travel a few miles you have Kedleston Hall and park, Chatsworth house and Haddem Hall which none were mentioned and focused entirely on Nottingham which is completely unconnected to Derby

The location of the cathedral quarter hotel is fantastic. So close to the centre. Great for a night out. Music from the near by "new " bar and hot spot of the moment is very loud on a Saturday night! Didn't bother us too much at the back of the hotel. The bed was comfortable and there were ample amounts of tea, coffee and shower products. Ironing board in the room was very helpful and there was a bath which is always a selling point for me. However there is No light over the bathroom mirror (bulb missing).

Having lived in Derby all my life and recently moved away we were excited to stay at the cathedral quarter hotel as when it opened it was very high end and stately looking. Unfortunately time has taken its toll and I think it's ready for a face lift again. The room was showing signs of wear and some neglect on the finer points of cleaning. The corridors and main parts of the building just smelt old, musty and stale smoke! Such a shame! Hotel bar shut at 10pm on a Saturday night! Luckily we only needed some ice and caught them just locking up.

Beautiful old building with gorgeous character, lots of original features Large room, felt very spacious and airy Very clean Good location Very comfy beds Big bathroom with good shower and high quality towels Big windows and high ceilings Friendly chatty staff, helpful and welcoming Tea and coffee facilities/flat screen tv/toiletries Easy check in and out Hotel itself was quiet Will definitely be staying again!

Nets in the room were a little tatty Air con didn't work Church bells rang every half an hour through the night (not the hotel's fault however due to the a/c not working we had to have the windows open)

The full English breakfast was excellent, with friendly and attentive service. This is a very grand old building, the lobby is spectacular, lots of character. The building itself is old, the carpets are well used, but everything is well maintained and very clean; the bathroom, plumbing and towels are new; the bed was very comfortable, the bedding is all new and high quality, I slept very well. The hotel is in the heart of the city centre, a stone's throw to the nearest pubs and cafes, and only a few minutes to the river walk. Didn't get a chance to try the in-house bars - next time hopefully. This hotel is ideal for those who want to stay in a family-run business with a personal, friendly touch, and can cope with traditional architecture. It is not for those who seek 24/7 hotel-chain blandness.

The only potential limitation is the front-desk hours, but this is not a genuine problem

The Hotel was central to Derby and everything was easily accessible and easy to reach. The town centre is literally at the top of the road. Despite this there was not much noise from the town. We had an issue with our initial accommodation, the staff sorted this out quickly and efficiently and without any problems or issues. The bar is very pleasant with a good selection of drinks. Also the bar staff held a Cocktail evening where each guest eas given a free cocktail, which was very nice and well made. The staff are always willing to help and assist and the staff seem to have a view that nothing to to much trouble.

The smaller rooms are extremely small initially we had a small room, I may have been unlucky with this room. There were tiles missing from the bathroom floor, the bed moved 4-6 inches when I sat on it and the bedside cabinet fell apart when I opened it. When I opened the curtain which was not attached to the runner properly I was faced with a bare wall. However, when I went to staff, I was moved to a new bigger room immediately with no issues. That new larger room was exceptionally good comfortable and the view was good. This said the staff did tell me that they took over the hotel 1 year ago so this is a progressive project, and I would recommend this hotel to people visiting Derby. For the issues this hotel has the staff carry it along beautifully and the service is exceptional.
