Such a beautiful mansion right near downtown Elgin! Our room was lovely and comfortable. Breakfast was great. The grounds were gorgeous! It was everything we had hoped for!
My only complaint is that the shower seemed like a bit of a death trap. I’m above average height, 35, and have good flexibility , and I genuinely struggled to get in and out of the shower safely after an evening whisky. It was about a 2’ step into the slippery shower with nothing to grab onto. I think someone older, shorter, or less mobile might struggle. Also, on a warm summer night the room was pretty hot, stuffy, and muggy. A fan or some ventilation in the room would help since the windows in our room didn’t open far.

The property is a beautiful old mansion within its own grounds set at the side of the river. The few staff we met were polite and helpful. The lounge and dining room looked recently refurbished as apposed to the rest of the public rooms. We enjoyed playing snooker with a drink and chatting with other guests in the lounge. Large four poster room (2) with large tv and seating area, plenty of toiletries. Good breakfast, plenty of choice, lots of eateries in the high street. Highly recommend The Drouthy Cobbler. Another stop on our anniversary trip. Great night had x
The once beautiful mansion is in need of refurbishment, some of the photos used online are not as the hotel is now. Our room had the curtains missing from it bed and the walk in shower totally off the wall with enclosure removed. Tired and faded, but hopefully will be bought back to it’s former glory at some stage. I really didn’t like the fact the pool and gym where papered off so guests couldn’t see, made it look more worn. Overpriced due to lack of facilities and tired decor as now operating as bed and breakfast due to staff shortages.

it was spacious, beautifully decorated and in an excellent location. The owls at night were singing in the trees which was lovely and crocuses in the gardens were pretty. staff were friendly and helpful.
the plugs in the room were too far from the table tops for the kettle to plug in so had to put the kettle on the carpet which was awkward. the shower is in the bath which meant stepping in carefully to a slippery bath. I have had surgery on my hip recently so this was precarious! also lifting the kettle off the floor was hard for me! No bath robes or shower caps. poached eggs were hard but still tasty.

Tons of character & very relaxed, you felt like you were staying with a rich cousin, and could go anywhere in the house - very good breakfast included - public rooms were beautifully preserved. Solid walls, rooms were quiet, huge room (got one in the original house) lovely, helpful, friendly staff
This property is in transition & could use some TLC. We loved our stay knowing that once they are fully upgraded we won’t be able to afford staying there so didn’t mind at all

Liked central location, stayed in gate lodge and enjoyed the wee stroll up to the House for b/fast. B/fast was excellent and made to order. Staff friendly and courteous. Freedom of using gate lodge kitchen, dining and sitting room was great in addition to bedroom.
Room was great apart from some decor work outstanding. Would prefer tea/coffee table a bit higher. The grounds could be spectacular with mature plants or wild flowers, to compliment the mature trees.

my group of 6 ladies had 3 rooms with twin 4 poster beds. All of the rooms were charming, though they varied in size greatly-which didn't matter to us. We loved drinking wine on the patio before walking to dinner and then returning to play a little snooker at the biggest table I have ever seen while having a wee dram from The Wee Bar. Finishing the evening with a glass of wine (or two) in the sitting room with newly made friends also staying at the hotel. The staff was great, so hospitable and accommodating. They genuinely wanted to please all the guests. The breakfast was delicious, cooked to order served with a small buffet of fruit and cereals. I read the reviews of this hotel being run down and yes there area few tired places like the room carpets that need replacing (though they are clean) and some cracking paint.... but we kept in mind the age of the Mansion. we are so glad we got to stay in a well located piece of history in stunning Elgin (you must see the cathedral ruins)

Very impressive house and my room (once I tracked it down - it’s a maze!) was large with a very comfy bed, windows that open - essential in this heat - and a decent-sized bath. Very handy for town and Tesco for dinner!
I didn’t mind that there wasn’t a restaurant (except for breakfast) due to staff shortages which is apparently a big problem across the area. I think the corridors in particular could do with a revamp as they felt a bit 1970s.

Every morning I went for the full Scottisch breakfast, including black pudding and haggis. I loved it! My friend ate cornflakes, some toast and sandwhishes. Very good porrigde available too. Yoghurt, milk, orange juice, fruit, ... plenty of options in the morning! At night we stayed for dinner too. Fisch and chips, pastry and chicken liver. Very good! Nice draft beers on tap and wonderfull staff. We spent the night playing snooker. It was a magnificent stay! It is on a 15' stroll of the city center, lot's of parking places, you can sit outside, next to the water to enjoy a smoke and drinks. Just great!
The coffee in the morning was quite strong. I'm a black coffee drinker, and like them with a full body and bitterness. But this coffee was just a bit too much; But hey, this is the only disadvantage. Book the place, you will not regret it!

The room was very spacious and warm with a big TV. The breakfast was plentiful with quick service. We didn't eat dinner there but the menu looked good and reasonable. Ample free parking and only a short stroll to shops, bars & restaurants. We were lucky and were able to check-in before our scheduled check-in time.
The private ensuite was very large and had a bath with an overhead shower and also a separate shower cubicle unfortunately our cubicle shower was out of order. Not a huge issue but the bathroom would benefit from underfloor heating as the tiles were cold.

Great building our room was amazing although the picture didn’t match the actual room a big let down but still nice. The bathroom was not completed either and curtains around the bed were missing
No restaurant was terrible we were really looking forward to it there but had to order in and it was crap so a big let down the room wasn’t as good as in the pictures and the bathroom was still under construction or something not a good look
