Loved the history of the place, good atmosphere in the public areas. Superior room very large and a bath as requested. Convenient from the station.

Paid extra for a superior room, would not recommend this as very cold upstairs in the main building, once you got past the fire doors. Radiators in the corridors were cold. Bedroom was too cold to get undressed never mind use the bath. One towel rail and one radiator under the window nowhere near enough for this size room in the winter. After asking twice at reception a heater was provided and we were able to stay warm. Everything in need of thorough clean and TLC.

The staff team were absolutely amazing. Friendly and professional. The Bear is dog friendly which meant our dog could join us for the break. The hotel is in an excellent location for exploring Hungerford and the West Berkshire countryside. Our room was nicely decorated. Plenty of power and USB points. The bed was so comfortable and we had a great sleep.

When we arrived the cups in the room were dirty with dried on coffee at the bottom. This was immediately remedied by the staff when I raised this. Hot water pressure in the tap was very low. But we were in no rush when using the sink so wasn't a big problem. Overall these two issues did not in any way detract from a wonderful stay at The Bear.

Loved the nice room with the river running under the window. Loved the spotlessly clean bedding. Enjoyed the outdoor seating area. Food was good. Parking was good.

Their kitchen suffered an electrical problem on our second day , which although not something the staff could control, it meant food was not available on our second evening or hot food available for breakfast on our last day. The manageress has said she will refund the cost of the breakfast which is a kind offer which I appreciate but I do feel the staff on duty could of been more apologetic and helpful at the time. Simon was the only staff member who personally seemed understand that we were disappointed.

Lovely warm and comfy room, staff were lovely and friendly. Was in a perfect location for me as I was there for work and the free parking was a bonus

Broken toilet roll holder, broken shower, no water pressure. Cobwebs all over the ceiling and hanging down so could do with a feather duster! Would be a nice addition if there was a little fridge in the rooms. Small things but would make it more worth the cost of the stay.

Location, the building itself and the room were up to scratch. I can't fault the level of comfort that the rooms offer, quiet, enough space without being especially spacious and a perfect location on the main road but far enough away to avoid traffic noise. Parking was very convenient. We didn't partake in breakfast or an evening meal.

There were several minor points of maintenance that needed attention. Peeling paint in the bathroom A shower head that fired water across the room to reach the other side and dripped on the floor A leaky valve on the toilet A sticking light switch in the bathroom. A blown lightbulb in the room itself.

The options and choices for breakfast should have been explained . It would have been nice to have tea or coffee offered and brought to the table rather than serving yourself to coffee ( which incidentally was rubbish). The breakfast room wasn't busy, it would have been so much nicer to have proper coffee made and brought to the table rather than Cona coffee left to stew. Our room was lovely, but quite awkward for me to bring luggage from the car and up the outside stairs to our room by myself ( my husband walks wth a stick - so I have to manage the luggage ).

This place always hits the spot, it's a charming old place but unpretentious reasonably priced the staff are lovely, the food is good and it is warm and cosy in the winter. The location is excellent, you can easily walk into the centre of town while parked there. I wish we had discovered it before as we have had to come to Hungerford quite often and stayed in other places which are not a patch on it.

Normally it would be a positive for me to have eclectic shabby chic furnishing (looks like they have accumulated the chairs over the decades) because you can always find a chair of the right height and softness! But a few of the dining chairs have worn out upholstery and they should either replace them with smarter second hand chairs or else get the seats re-covered. In fact altogether someone should go through the place looking at the detail where they could touch up bits of paint etc.

Really great value breakfast, ranging from traditional to up to date dishes, wide range of things to eat. And really nice friendly kind staff so we felt really comfortable and at home. A very old coaching in which has been well modernised. A relaxed atmosphere, nice bar and places to eat. Nice hot shower. Pleasant little garden and courtyard though it was raining, we had no noise from the road. You can stay in the inn itself, or else in converted stables which are fully self contained and just a few steps away from the main building. It is handy for everything in Hungerford. and being able to park is a big bonus because parking is not that easy in the town. You can sign in to free wifi.

The room we were in had an awkward little wardrobe which opened onto the side of a desk, they could have had the wardrobe elsewhere in to the room. this didnt really bother us but maybe they can change that strange way to have the wardrobe.

The Staff Team are absolutely amazing. Nothing was any trouble. They made us feel welcome and relaxed from the moment we checked in. They gave particular attention to our little dog... Which she loved. The location is perfect for exploring Hungerford or the beautiful Download countryside. The hotel has everything you would need for a little break away. The cosy rooms are spotlessly clean and with good facilities.

Having to leave... We should have stayed for longer.

Excellent cooked breakfast and buffet. Evening meal was very tasty given that it was typical Greene King menu. Friendly serving staff Fascinating history dating back to Henry Vlll. Comfortable bed.

The room's balcony was in need of cleaning maintenance. Difficult to manage the room temperature; radiator either on or off and the bathroom heated rail was very hot and seemingly could not be turned off. One of the bedside lamps did not work.
