I'd be surprised if you could get better staff anywhere, they couldn't do enough, yet were relaxed and upbeat. Thank you. There were lots of rooms on the ground floor, and on second floor. Country vibe decor. The food was good, plenty of choice. Nice fire in the bar and a range of seats. The room spacious, comfy with quality furnishings. Plenty of parking. Good access to 2 nearby Railway Stations - Thatcham & Midgham.

The main road can be heard at night if it's raining. The storm brought down a few trees on the other side of Bath Road in roads to Silchester, some were closed, some low level large puddles, tho it was possible to get through via the common, and it is the Countryside so fair enough!. Am unsure of bus and taxi options, one firm quoted £35. Did see a bus stop directly outside - think buses go to Newbury & Reading, tho not Silchester or Tadley. Flask coffee was good at brekkie, preferred barista range is available later in the day. Overall the value of the breakfast is amazing tho, so who could grumble!. Recommend locals go there just for the breakfast!

Breakfast very good . The lady working was very professional but came over as friendly happy also . Room very comfortable Bed was a single preferred a double but no complaints . The young lady in the restraunt for both evenings was very helpfull and greeted with a smile attitude was very proffesional . I could see that she was keeping bar area / Resteraunt clean when not taking orders from customers . Good to see her keeping busy and tidying up when no service was required . It would be good if this could be mentioned to her immediate manager .

We have used this hotel many times and thought it could do with updating but we were happy to book there as it was convenient for visiting family and not too expensive. We haven't used it for some months due to illness so were really pleased on this visit to see they have upgraded and decorated the rooms to a higher standard. We always ask for rooms in the annexe so I can only comment on them but assume they've done the rest too. The rooms are welcoming, with very pleasing colours and decor, the beds are comfortable and the bathroom upgraded with a large shower. Provided iron with board, hairdryer and plenty of choice of tea, coffee etc.

The water and radiator in the bathroom were exceedingly hot and whilst it may seem silly to complain when some hotels struggle to provide this, I thought it dangerously so as I nearly burnt my hands from both. When replacing the hand towel after use, I accidently touched the radiator and it Burnt! Similarly, the hot water was scalding and needed lots of cold to make it usable. It would also be easier to have a towel ring close to sink as the radiator (only place to hang it) was behind the open door when just going in rinse your hands. Old wardrobe and shelves were replaced with a narrower wardrobe and no shelf space for non hanging clothes

The rooms were clean and comfortable and exceeded our expectations. Also quiet in an easy to reach location. The bar was comfortable and welcoming.

The food. Sunday evening the staff knew we wanted to order small picky bits for us all to share and were informed that the kitchen closed at 9. One of our party went to order at 8:45 to be told the kitchen had closed. Monday breakfast. Down @ 9:30 to find no coffee available and only 1 pastry remaining for my continental breakfast. So we paid £6.99 for yoghurt, muesli and cherry compote! Not good value. The staff were helpful but explained that they had run out.

We were told dinner was served til 9pm when we arrived at 8.30pm, when we asked for dinner we were told kitchen had closed. However they made it work and were able to serve dinner. Since all the signs said up til 9pm. Given we aren’t near any local shops that was quite stressful! But it was sorted in the end, although I would say if the kitchen is winding down at 8.30 please state this on the menus or at check in. This didn’t take away from the fact whole experience though as the rooms and staff and food were all great , just a bit of feedback

Room felt newly refurbished. Bed was extremely comfortable. Lovely touches, such as the chocolates with welcome note. Border biscuits yummy. Fridge, option to get fresh milk, was wonderful. Shower was amazing.

Customer Service from the lady on reception when we checked in was disappointing. I appreciate they were short staffed due to sickness & one of our rooms wasn't ready, but letting her frustration & feelings known, we felt sadly wasn't very professional. She was there Fri & Sat. Saturday wasn't any better. No greeting or made to feel welcome as I needed to go past reception numerous times to assist my sister & Mum ahead of the wedding we were attending. Our room was extremely warm, despite no heating being on, especially after showering, and could benefit from a fan as the windows only open a small amount. But minor issues that certainly wouldn't put us off staying again.

The rooms in the annexe are lovely, its a very comfortable place to stay. Its on the main A4 but a bit out of the town

This would be my favourite place to stay but is let down by the quality of the food at breakfast. The breakfast is quite generous but its just poor quality. It tastes like it has been cooked frozen and then microwaved. It just isn’t worth the cost. As a result of the poor quality breakfast we won’t eat anything in the restaurant as its not worth risking paying a lot for a bad quality meal

We really liked the extra little touches, that make all the difference! The bed was huge & super comfy, the room was spacious enough, the welcome card & chocs were appreciated & there was plenty of decaff coffee & tea, I was ecstatic! There was also a little milk urn to go & get fresh milk in from the bar! Again, very happy to get soya milk! Breakfast was yummy, freshly cooked to order promptly! Plenty of continental breakfast options too. Oh & the sea kelp toiletries were lovely & new to us.

There were no coat hangers for skirts without hanging loops & if you're not 5ft 6" plus, the toilet roll is simply too far away. Minor concerns really.

The room was lovely, the bed was very comfortable and the room was very quite, the welcome card was a lovely touch. The only thing I would say was to have a shower mat in the room - there is a note that you can get 1 from reception but we did not see the note until we had got striped and in the shower and could not be bothered to get re-dressed to go get one, my husband is disabled so we were just extra careful. The staff we lovely , friendly and very helpful, we missed breakfast but we had dinner the night before and the food was really very good , will definitely book in again when we are in that area.

The room was immaculate. Loads of USB sockets for all the devices you could want to charge, along with a stack of standard UK power points. The bed was very comfortable, particularly liked the pillows. I have a large head that sank just the right amount in to the pillow. Bathroom was also spotless and well appointed. Breakfast was most pleasant. Just the right amount of food. The staff were all well spoken & helpful.

I felt the bathroom could have been made a bit bigger. The shower was a bit tight, water was very easy to splash on the floor. I'm somewhat bigger than the average bear, but still feel it was tight. However, I do not see this as a reason to knock the hotel. An observation rather than a didn't like.
