The property is a grade 2 listed building and is beautiful! The staff were very warm and friendly and very helpful when needing assistance. Beautiful grounds. Great shower.

So, after seeing pictures of the property I had really high expectations. And when I arrived outside and the reception area did not disappoint. However through the hallways there’s a very musty smell, looks very tired and dated could do with modernising a little maybe. Also there’s creepy rams heads dotted around the place…..one in my room on the windowsill and one in the hallway, I didn’t see the point in these as decorations, they are just creepy and don’t match the hotel vibe! Bed very noisy and dipped in the middle! Cupboard smelt! Just a few little tweaks and the jobs a good’un!!!

We really enjoyed our week stay, the standard room, location, facilities and staff were all excellent. When our shower wasn't working properly, the lovely girl on reception promptly upgraded us to a superior room. The night porter was happy to keep the bar open late, to let us and friends also staying, wet the baby's head, when we arrived back late from Whiston Hospital where our daughter had just delivered her first baby. We travelled from Scotland for the birth and are planning on staying here again for our beautiful grandson's future birthday celebrations.

Me and my husband came and stayed here after our wedding reception ended, we stayed for 2 nights and decided that we would stay another night but in the bridal suite, it is nothing short of gorgeous and the twin tubs are to die for! The property is absolutely beautiful and the staff are all extremely pleasant and kind. I would love to come stay again!

We didn’t know that the spa was permanently closed until arrival, we was quite achey and would’ve benefited from a spa day, the spa not being open wouldn’t have stopped us from staying here, we just would’ve booked a mobile masseuse to come out to us in advance if we’d have known!

Nice grounds, quiet & has classic decor. Very spacious room with traditional furniture, friendly & welcoming staff. The cocktails were well made & really tasty. The breakfast was reasonable & when arriving although we arrived too late for the evening meal, the smells from the kitchen were delightful.

The sealant around the bathtub was splitting & somehow a slug ended up on the bathroom window ledge plus it looked like some mold & damp had started to surface around the bathroom window too probably due to it being a really old building & condensation build up due to the bathroom being insufficiently vented to allow the moisture to escape. Aside from that, after making the booking I found out that the spa had closed in July.

We had a great one night stay after a long drive from Kent to deliver a glass piece at St Helens Glass Museum. The hotel was really well placed for access to St Helens. It was quirky ( obviously a wedding venue) and had an interesting history. The room was super clean, we enjoyed the evening meal at the restaurant and a lovely breakfast. The staff were very kind. Luckily there was no wedding on the Friday night we stayed and I would avoid any stay, anywhere, were a wedding was taking place. It was peaceful and calm and we will book there again to collect the work in November.

Just a touch shabby, which I did not mind and the carpets need a good clean or a darker colour!

Friendly and polite staff, very welcoming.

The decor in my room was initially surprising as it was fish themed wallpaper. The decor inside the halls communal rooms’ were very inviting and well presented, I could not say the same for the room in which I stayed. For the value in which I payed for just one night, this was something I could accept. If I had a longer stay I would have liked a room slightly less attractive to the eye.

Large room, fabulous huge bed slept so well!! Food was delicious.. Reception guy was so lovely and sweet. Helped us no matter what with a smile… evening waiting on staff were fabulous they couldnt do enough. Morning breakfast staff not as attentative or friendly. We wanted a relaxed get away as both of us were having a tough time and we got our “me” time that we wanted. We will definately be going back again!!

Couple small things missing for us… like better tea trolley items and china cups instead of generic white mugs… plastic toilet seat.. no dressing gowns. But wouldnt stop us going

Lovely old building - stayed in a huge room, which for the price was really good value. Was a very quiet stay, hardly heard a sound during the night. Dinner was superb, as was breakfast - can't fault the food or service. Place is well lit up outside at night. Love the fact the North Korean football side stayed here during '66 World Cup. Can walk to a nice couple of old local pubs within 10 mins.

Would be nice to have a decaf option in the room (saw them downstairs at Breakfast ;). Parking spots are tightly spaced. Shower had no screen, so bathroom gets wet.

The inside of the hotel was stunning staff was very friendly and helpful and room was way better than I expected

There was a stain on the bed sheet that should have been clean but was very small and looked like it had been there a while so may of just been a stain they couldn’t get out. The biggest thing I didn’t like was the grounds that the hotel is in they haven’t been kept up well and was a bit of an eye sore considering how beautiful the hotel it’s self is. How ever when I spoke to reception about this they said they haven’t long been taken over and are trying to sort this out

The hotel is set in lovely grounds. The staff were friendly. There is a very nice area outside the hotel where you can have a drink and relax.

We arrived early and asked if it was ok to leave our car. We were told that would be fine and that our room was actually ready and we could check in if we paid an additional £20. We declined. When we returned after check in time, we were told that someone else had taken our room so we had to wait for a while so that another room could be checked and readied. Not a show stopper but a little frustrating!!
