The staff were very friendly and approachable. Room and communal spaces clean and tidy. The location is fantastic; stones throw from the M6 but so quiet, lovely grounds, spacious parking. And the conservatory restaurant served me one of the best steaks I've ever had!

The lighting in the room was inadequate. Navy blue paint job throughout, lamps and wall lights but no overhead light, two windows on one wall. End result was a room that was permanently gloomy - I had to inspect my clothes for creases, cleanliness etc in the bathroom as I just couldn't see enough in the bedroom. Also the wall mirror is poorly placed; in a narrow corner and again not enough light to make it functional.

A most impressive converted Olde Worlde Hotel, sat in it's own beautiful grounds with lake, moats and view of the canal all in a great, convenient location near to the M6. The room was huge with a comfortable bed and sofa. The bathroom was very spacious too with full bath and separate shower. Everything was super clean. Breakfast in the beautiful restaurant area was good.

At some time air conditioning was fitted in the room, but had been disabled. The room was warm (October) and I would imagine some may suffer during hot weather. We had a bar meal, it was OK. I had fish and chips, the fish was wonderful not so the chips which were under cooked. We like sparkling water with our meals which is not available at this hotel. We had our windows open and although you can hear the M6 traffic, it isn't excessive and we still slept well.

Excellent size room, with a king size bed. Although it had issues loved the space and the whole hotel was very clean. Staff were most accommodating, polite, courteous

The king size bed made up with 2 mattresses. Unfortunately this caused an uncomfortable ridge down the bed. Would advice a mattress topper for comfort. Also on a Health and Safety issue the containers that kept the food hot ( the eggs ) whilst holding the plate and closing the lid the actual metal container moved to the edge of the unit towards me. I stopped it with the front of my body from falling off. I suggest for safety putting some sort of edge protector to stop them moving. Also more basic choice on the pub menu for families

What a beautiful stay.... One of the best hotels I've stayed in travelling england for a long time. Very modern vintage. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. No fault on cleaning, I could of eaten my dinner in the bathroom. Superb scenery and all kept very well maintained. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic. All thr extra little touches really made the difference and made my experience whole. Like bringing my toast over being very comfortable. And for a what was a breakfast buffet.... 5 star. High quality good as well. (not your usual 30p sausage) which made my day! I will definitely be coming back. A stay I will never forget!

The most pickiest thing ever but it would of been nice for the restaurant to have tables reserved for guests staying at the hotel. I know it was very busy with Christmas bookings extra. But we would of really liked to of had dinner here too!

Very pleasant hotel just a couple of minutes off the M6 but through a small village and far enough to avoid traffic noise. Very nice gardens and generally very quaint and cosy inside. There's a bar/restaurant which served a decent range of beers and the menu was good enough. The room was very clean and also cosy and comfortable. This place is ideal for a stopover while travelling where you can get some food, drink, sleep and breakfast.

This is a popular wedding/function venue, so there may be a function on when you're there as there was during our stay. It was a bit loud and it meant that breakfast was very busy, so you may want to check this on booking/arrival and account for it. The rooms are lovely, but the walls are a bit thin - however it did not disturb our sleep or spoil or stay.

Size and decor of room and bathroom were excellent. Dining room and staff were excellent, as were the meals at breakfast and dinner.

We booked a table in the lounge bar for dinner on Sunday evening. When we arrived we did not seem to be expected. We were placed at a table that was not set (although other tables were set in the room) The service was very poor with the exception of one young male waiter who was helpful. We requested a desert menu after our main course and are still waiting for it! Our bedroom had no air conditioning and the first two nights (admittedly in a heatwave) were very hot and uncomfortable, despite the fact that we had a fan working at full capacity.

Proximity to the motorway. An attractive original listed building with modern extensions built in a sympathetic manner. Very pleasant gardens / ponds / surroundings. Cheerful and helpful staff. An interesting lounge bar in the listed part of the building where we ate well.

Some of the plates at breakfast time were not as clean as they might have been. The noise from the motorway is intrusive in the gardens but is not heard inside the buildings.

I thought that the breakfast was very nice and the dining room was in a lovely spot over looking the moat . We enjoyed meeting all the ducks and Swans around the lovely gardens , also watching the canal boats traveling up and down the canal which ran right by our window

The only problem we had was that the bar was very over crowded as it was full of wedding guests which made it difficult to get a drink or find a seat

The location was tranquil and serene long walk along canal before dinner after busy day was a treat. Pleasant dining area with lovely restaurant. Overall would highly recommend for short break!

The bar was poorly stocked unable to serve a number of alcoholic requests, surprised me as this appears to be a popular wedding venue. Barman was very apologetic and pleasant but disappointed overall with this aspect. The restaurant staff were young and perhaps would benefit with more training! Offered dessert when hadn’t eaten main course, wrong wine arrived shortly followed by correct one by another member of staff at the same time. Need to be on the ball with table requirements/rotation.

Lovely place, stayed here en route from Devon to Cumbria. We booked the family room, loads of space. Large bathroom, plenty of tea, milk etc. Huge and comfy bed. Booked a table in the restaurant and the food and service was excellent. We normally stay here on the journey back from Devon and use a Premier Inn on the way down but its highly likely we'll stay here on both legs next time. For the price there's no comparison.

The only issue we had were due to delays on the motorway meaning we were too late to have a drink outside by the gorgeous duck pond, never mind, better luck next time!!!
