A great place to stay for location as easily accessible for a short trip into Whitby and gateway into the national park. We normally stay at the Horseshoe hotel at Egton Bridge but it was fully booked so thought we’d try a different venue…I do a yearly visit with my dad who grew up in the area so we know where to go which is great…able to revisit some really picturesque villages such as Glaisdale, Lealholme, Rosedale etc…and different spots…plus visited the Farndale show during our visit. The pub is excellent for food…definitely recommend the steak and ale pie 🥧 and reasionably priced good selection of food and drinks. There is a home cooked breakfast in the mornings with different selections. Dog friendly with a rear garden and sausage for the Doggo 🐶 in the morning 👍. We stayed in room 3 which was lovely and spacious including bathroom…the only thing I would suggest is that the pub perhaps think about offering a twin room in the future out of the 3 that they have…the current rooms all have double bed options…but doesn’t suit all ( just a suggestion) the sofa bed unfortunately was not great 🤷‍♀️….However had a lovely time visiting North Yorkshire and hopefully look forward to pop in to the pub next visit 👍

My partner and i stayed at The Witching Post as part of a trip round the East Yorkshire seaside spots. This place immediatly caught my eye as i found the name really interesting and it seemed like a really nice cosy place. The pub was easy to find and in a cute village about 15 mins from Whitby by car. On Arrival we were welcomed by the bar staff and shown our room. The room was lovely and there was a lovely big ensuite too. with free tea, coffee and hot chocolate and super cute "Witches brew" and Wizards brew" mugs which were a cute touch relating to the name. The landlord also greeted us and was super friendly and we met the two pub dogs, Nelly and Molly who we instantly fell in love with. very friendly and well behaved dogs for anyone wondering. We settled in and after returning from an evening in Whitby headed back for a drink in the pub downstairs. Again greeted by the landlord Pete and the dogs we chatted about our plans for the week and he gave us some great tips on where to visit and good sightseeing spots including Staithes, Runswick Bay, Sands End, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar (apparently you can see seals here) Flamborough head as well as others. He also told us the history of the pub and rooms and where the Witching Post name came from! be sure to ask him about this its really interesting :)! We had breakfast included and you can pick the night before what time your coming down to eat and what you want from the menu. its cooked when you confirm in the morning just incase so there is some room for you changing your mind! i had a full english and my partner has a sausage butty and it was super tasty and plenty of food. A nice treat! The pub only has three rooms which is nice as its intimate and you are looked after. I would stay here again anytime and we were both a bit gutted that we had only booked one night here. thanks so much for looking after us and for a lovely stay!

it was great! i think if we could have stayed another night but this wasnt to be :) very popular place.

We liked just about everything. Only stayed one night on our way up north. Good for the park and ride into Whitby. The pub was cosy and friendly, we were made to feel very welcome. The room was lovely, quiet, clean and comfortable. The food was great. We had a steak evening meal which was one of the best steaks we have ever had. The breakfast was also excellent. The pub had no problems catering for my wife who requires a gluten free menu. All in all first class. Shame we don't live closer because we would like to stay there again. Highly recommend this pub.

Couldn't stay longer.

Stopped for one night, convenient location. Accommodation was very comfortable and spacious, wonderful bathrooms. Meals (we had both evening meal and breakfast here) were fabulous, reasonable price & good size portions. Landlord and staff could not do enough for us. We had spent two nights previous stopping in Whitby, in future we agree we'd stop here as location for Whitby and other areas was ideal and this was of a better standard. Thank you.

I cannot find anything negative to say about The Witching Post Inn, as indicated above, highly recommended.

Had a fantastic two night stay in this lovely friendly little pub. Everyone made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble, there was great banter and the food was excellent especially the steaks. We were given loads of info on the best places to visit and will definitely stay here again. Pete you are a legend, but stop wearing them shorts 😉

There wasn't really anything we didn't like, maybe a handrail in the bathroom to get in and out of the bath would be really helpful as there was no separate shower in our room , but the shower itself was fab but apart from that everything was great.

Pete the landlord and Claire were very welcoming and helpful from the moment we walked into the pub. We enjoyed the cooked breakfasts and evening meal. Cosy with lovely log fire. Good location for the Pulman steam train meal experience from Grosmont to Pickering and for day trip to Whitby. By the time we left we felt like we had known Pete and Claire for years, they are so friendly. Would definitely recommend and hope to go again next year.

The room was pleasant and the bathroom was large, modern and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable, I took a picture of the label on the mattress as I will be buying one when I change mine. My son and I had a fantastic evening meal the night of our stay which I am glad I chose over fish and chips at the harbour. Equally the breakfast was lovely with proper butchers sausages and black pud. Great enclosed garden for the dog who was made to feel as welcome as us.

Ate there on the evening I had lasagna my husband had the pie. Both meals were excellent as was the breakfast. The room was very spacious with a big comfortable bed, a sitting area and a large bathroom with a good shower. It also had good Wi-Fi. Parking was just to the front. Welcoming staff and a friendly owner who couldn’t do enough. Great for the coast or the moors.

The location was good because we didn’t want to be in Whitney but close enough to visit. A quiet Yorkshire village with limited traffic and quite close to Grosmont rail station. The owners, Pete and Kim were super hosts and couldn’t do more for you. Breakfast was made to order and the scrambled eggs were the best I’ve ever had! We left a kindle in our room but had moved on to Northumbria by the time we were notified.Pete offered to drive halfway to meet me which was above and beyond but a great gesture. He arranged for it to be sent to our home.
