Perfect location, close to so many choices for cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops and only a short walk to Bowness for more choice and of course the boat trips. Room 10 is a beautiful room with a freestanding claw foot bath as well as a super comfy super king bed, a bathroom with shower and a seating area. Everywhere is well presented and beautifully clean. The breakfast choice is vast and all cooked to order and served to your table by the friendliest staff. Nothing is too much trouble. Room 9 is a lovely twin with a large shower room. Thank you so much, we had such a great time and would definitely recommend The Cottage 10/10

Nothing to dislike

We loved sitting on the couch by the bay window in the room to read or enjoy a glass of wine (glasses and wine opener were provided!). We loved being able to sit at the same breakfast table before 8.30am and were served coffee early. We had the most comfortable bed here among the accommodations in this trip. It felt like a second home.

There are little quirky areas that may seem a tad odd, like the tray(?) above the wash basin that could hit your ahead if you are not careful, the hangers that could not be taken out and make hanging of clothes difficult. But I much appreciate the efforts made by the owner and staff to make the stay very pleasant and comfortable.

Lovely comfortable beds, convenient location for restaurants and also only 10/15 minute walk to lake. Lots of buses go past too. But it was still reasonably quiet for a town location. Breakfast fairly basic veggie options but nice enough for couple of days and the ladies that served it were friendly

If I'm being picky the rooms could probably do with some tlc considering the price per night but bathroom was good and clean with nice shower. Also it wasn't a problem as we knew it was the case but I do think the place could benefit from a local person greeting you on arrival as I think it just gives a b and b that extra special feel although the self check in was very easy and is convenient and has it's advantages!

Everything. The host was extremely helpful, she couldn't have done more to help us. The self check in was easy, the room number 3 had a four poster bed, there was a stand along bath, the bathroom was very modern with toiletries and a bidet built into the toilet if you wanted to use it. The hotel itself dated back to the 1800s and they have kept a lot of the original features but have also incorporated some modern touches. We had large tv 55inch and a fridge in our room with plenty of tea/coffee/milk etc. At the side of the bed we each had a very modern led light which incorporated a wireless phone charger. Also free parking with a space for every room. This place is faultless and we will certainly be coming back. Very impressed.

Like everything.

The hotel is in a great spot just up the hill from Bowness-on-Windermere and we very much enjoyed the walk. It's really handy having parking as not all hotels in the area offer this. The hotel itself was a little bit old fashioned but this didn't detract at all from our stay. Our room was more modern and the breakfast was brilliant, as was the lady who served us, who was very friendly and helpful.

The attic room (5) didn't really have anywhere to hang our clothes. There was a narrow cupboard with a rail and coat hangers behind the front door to the room, but the hangers were attached and it wasn't possible to open the door properly, due to it's proximity to the large hinge of the door to the room. So we hung our coats on the coat hook that was provided and left our clothes in our bag. As we were only there for the night, this didn't really matter, but had we been there for a longer stay it would have been an issue.

Great price. Location was brilliant. 5 minute walk from the train station and a minute walk to the centre. Very easy to find. I was given an upgraded room at no extra cost. The room was clean and kitted out well. The bed was comfy. The breakfast was brilliant and the lady who works there was both friendly and funny. She recommended places to go and was generally very helpful with everyone. I wouldn't think twice about booking here again!! My only reservation would be if I were to bring my dog next time as I don't think the property is dog friendly.

We loved the style of the building itself, including the interior decor. Our favourite thing about the room was the bidet toilet, which was a nice bonus to have. The breakfast staff were extremely friendly and they allowed us to store our bags after check out. The breakfast was always wonderful - you are offered a selection of hot and cold options. It set us up for the day. It was a nice walk into town and it was even easy to get around without a car because of the two pound open-top buses - no matter where you go they cost 2 pounds.

The only thing was we found the experience a little impersonal (other than at breakfast time) and other guests were extremely loud when they arrived, which disturbed our sleep. But that can happen anywhere... The owners/ management do not appear to be locals, but then again some locals we met said it was far too expensive for regular people to live in or have property in Windermere itself.

The room was well equipped, including a mini-fridge and a very good shower. It was very hot when I went, so I was pleased to find a good working fan to help cool down the room. It is well located in Windermere, a very short walk away from both the train & bus station, as well as the shops in Windermere. The staff were very nice and breakfast was delicious, filling and prompt. Hot breakfast was only served from 8:30 - 9:30 (on weekdays) and you had to fill out a form the evening before for the breakfast you wanted. There were a lot of options though and even if you wanted breakfast outside those times, you could get toast, cereal, pastries and fruit that were freely available in the dining room. It was very easy to check in and out - instructions to get the key were clear and provided with plenty of advance notice, so I knew what to do.

The room I was in was facing the main road and I was able to hear cars and vans going by, even with the window closed. I also found that the blinds didn't do a brilliant job of keeping light out, so at night I would see flashes of light coming into the room from the cars going by. I also woke earlier as the sun came in through the blinds.

We have stayed here several times, and had room 7 in the annexe. A wonderful modern room. However on this occasion we were given room 8 in the annexe. It was cold, the rear of the property next door The Lamplighter backed onto our room. It was noisy, we could hear their kitchen staff preparing food. And plates being moved about. If we stay again, we will refuse this room.

The wardrobe, drawers and lamps are dated. No sockets next to the bed.

We stayed here for 2 nights as we had to abandon our car with the heavy snowfall on saturday, what a fab place to stay !!! our room was modern and very+ comfortable. What we loved most was the warm and friendly owners and lovely Muriel who served us breakfast nothing was too much trouble for them would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to them all for all there especially the owner for giving us lift back to our car which was a couple miles away so nice and thoughtful of him.Although it was difficult time with the heavy snowfall and all the problems it brought we enjoyed our stay at the cottage and will definately stay here again.x
