An interesting, kitschy retro hotel with a cool Brooklyn vibe. The city view rooms offer nice views of the Manhattan skyline. Rooms are clean and well appointed with most travel needs. It's generally very quiet unless an event (wedding) is being hosted. It has a small bar/restaurant with food service. The hotel also offers luggage storage if you need to leave bags.

Location isn't great from a tourist/traveller point of view. While the hotel is in a quiet residential area with lots of restaurants and coffee shops, you'll be either driving or taking the subway to get to interesting parts of the city. There's no safe in the room and it has the thinnest toilet paper known to humankind.

This is one of my favorite hotels in the city. The staff are amazing, accommodating, and always helpful. The rooms are clean with neat bespoke decor, and the facilities (laundry, gym, sauna) are fantastic for longer stays.

Every now and then, getting stuck on the 4th floor beneath a wedding party... the noise is bananas. But if there are other rooms available, I've always had the opportunity to move to a quieter spot.

We had a great stay at the Box House! Friendly, helpful staff were all great. The room was large and perfect for our family of 4. Location was great - close enough to the action and far enough away to be quiet. The breakfast was top quality. We would definitely stay again.

Our room on the ground floor didn't have any natural light. The windows all looked to internal spaces. This was not an issue or noticeable except that we had terrible jetlag and the absence of sunlight was apparent! The lighting in the room was fine and the ceilings were high, so it didn't feel dark at all. We may have been less sensitive to it if we weren't jet-lagged, but next time we would ask for a room facing out.

Loved the decor, the thought and imagination that went into it all and loved the price because I did a lot of searching for hotel rooms in NYC and this was incredible value compared to most others. The room was lovely, the little balcony was great, coffee machine much appreciated and the actual telephone beside your actual bed which was actually answered when I used it to call reception - sadly you're normally directed to an app. So decor, quirkiness, comfort, human contact, all good.

The restaurant is only open Thurs to Sunday and that's a shame but not a biggie. We just called in takeout from Sushi of Miso and it was amazing!

It's an eclectic hotel with lots of character. The doorman, the bartender, and the breakfast crew were friendly. It's in a convenient location as it's a 20 min car ride away from Manhattan and Laguardia airport. We were a block away from a few restaurants and markets. Our room had a nice layout with a beautiful bathroom. It had a balcony with a small table and chairs, which would be quaint in the warmer months. Generally, it was a quiet hotel. The water pressure and temperatures were right on. As was the heat in our room. Our booking included daily breakfast. I highly recommend it. It was so good! I do not say this lightly. The scrambled eggs were the very best I've ever, and I fear will ever have. There was a nice variety with delicious bacon, sausage links, small potatoes, pancakes, bagels, pastries, the best greek yogurt parfaits, coffee, and orange juice. It filled us up for most of the day. This saved us quite a bit of money throughout each day. I'm a known coffee snob/addict, and I'm always concerned about it when staying at a hotel. I've grown to assume the coffee in the room will be lacking, and I'll have to find good coffee elsewhere. Delighted to say, the coffee in our room and at breakfast (likely the same kind) was rich and delicious. If you like stronger coffee like I do, you'll love it!

The bed was too soft for me. You sink into it. Perhaps it was a down filling. In fairness, I sleep on an extremely firm bed at home. In my experience, most hotels have firm beds. None the less, being outside much of our days, the freezing temperatures wore us out, and we fell asleep pretty quickly. The 3 nights we were there, the vending machine was sold out of water. I informed the front desk. They gave us water bottles on a few occasions. The lighting in our room was aesthetically pleasing but not bright enough when doing our hair and makeup.

We were specifically looking for a more local vibe outside of Manhattan, and this place was a perfect 10/10! Our stay exceeded all expectations. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated—not like the repetitive, cookie-cutter design of big chain hotels, but with real attention to detail. It felt incredibly welcoming and comfortable. We loved waking up every morning to the city view from our balcony. While the location does require a 10-minute walk to the nearest subway stations, it's easy to get anywhere in the city from there. The staff were kind and very helpful throughout our stay. Highly recommended!

The location is excellent. The rooms with the city view are particularly fabulous. We found the transport links to Manhattan to be reasonable in price and time.

The Reception staff at this hotel need some customer service training. The welcome was lukewarm to say the least. When my husband asked for recommendations for local restaurants, the receptionists drew a blank. On leaving, we had barely a goodbye. This is not the experience we had in other places in Manhattan. Service tends to be excellent - probably due to the tipping culture (which at 20 - 30% is out of hand -but that's just our opinion of course!).

The hotel is located in a quiet location in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, 10 minutes' walk away from the nearest metro station, over Pulaski Bridge in Queens. From the metro station you can take line 7 into Midtown Manhattan. The staff were very helpful with small repairs and printing documents. The WiFi worked well.

The window blinds were difficult to manipulate. For longer stays the room is only cleaned every second day. The ground floor bar is only open in the evening from Thursday to Sunday. The immediate surroundings are quiet but not very attractive.

The room was clean and spacious. It had a mini fridge, a small balcony and the towels in the bathroom were good quality. The bed was big & comfortable. The hotel was about 15 minutes from the New York ferry transport system (GreenPoint). It was easy to getto DUMBO n the Brooklyn Bridge. The hotel restaurant was only open for breakfast but as we dont eat much for breakfast we went to local cafes nearby which were very good and reasonably priced. The area is residential and quiet. There is a supermarket nearby.

There was no bar in the restaurant and the roof top facilities were closed which was disappointing as the weather was lovely. The hotel is about 20 minutes to GreenPoint subway but you can get to another subway by walking over the Pulaski bridge.

It's a very hip, well designed interior. We got upgraded (by a lovely front desk staff person named Denissei) from a regular room to a suite. The suite was incredible - huge (bigger than many apartments), stylish, very comfortable, and with a full kitchen and living room area. A really special room experience. The location is great - tucked away from the main action in Greenpoint, but a couple of blocks from an excellent grocery store (Lincoln Market) and right next to cool ways to view the East River, Newtown Creek, and Manhattan. It's an easy walk to the many great restaurants and fun spots in Greenpoint. Also, the deal they have with the Bellship apartments for parking was affordable and relatively convenient.

It's NYC (or Brooklyn to be more precise) so I know - to some extent - this comes with the territory, but a middle of the night visit to the bathroom included an encounter with a cockroach. Our ground floor room may have been a factor. I let the front desk staff know and they were very sympathetic and wanted to be responsive (they offered to spray the room, but we didn't want to do during our stay).
