This hotel is all about location. If you love shopping, eating and history then I would recommend this hotel as all this is walkable. Hotel car parking is in the main carpark next door which is very handy. Free the first night then £2 a night after which is better than the actual carpark chargers which can go up to £26 a day. Check your ticket is authorised before getting to the exit. Breakfast is included and is ok. Rooms are comfortable and the hotel is quite good value.

The communication from the hotel (I asked a question) is not so good, no response from my two questions. They do send a generic message the day before which answered my questions but getting no response is poor in my opinion. This is an express hotel so slightly basic and tired, marks on the walls and carpet. Our room was at the front with a view, we could hear slight thudding from the bars music. We also had children running around but not too late.

The location is brilliant - with easy reach for the shopping outlet at Gunwharf Quays, the many restaurants, as well as the dock yard and on site cinema. We also easily caught a bus into the City Centre. The parking discount is an excellent bonus and the inclusive breakfast makes this a goof value for money weekend. Thank you. For those who are yet to discover it, please note there is an alternative cinema 'next door' in a disused unit within the dockyard - Cinema no. 6. It's brilliantly run and well worth a visit if the film showing when you visit appeals to you - this was a gem of a find!

We had stayed here at the same time last year, and the cleanliness of the bathroom was sub standard, however, this was not the case this year, and I will be booking for our Christmas shopping weekend again for 2025.

My friend and I stayed here for one night. We had a good night’s sleep in comfy beds and quietness. TV was good as was wifi. Breakfast was good despite having to wait for the odd top up of food. Loved the fact I could park the car in the underground parking of Gunwharf Quays very near the hotel and it was free - but you must get the ticket validated at reception to get it free. The location of this hotel is perfect for visiting the town centre - we went up Spinnaker Tower which was amazing. Staff were friendly and helpful. All in all the hotel made our getaway from London a very pleasant one. December 2024.

The holiday inn was in a great location and was right on top of all the shops and restaurants. It was very clean. Rooms were comfortable and we had a lovely view of the shopping centre and as it was December all the lights looked lovely. Parking was also discounted which was a nice surprise. Great value for money. Breakfast lovely. Definitely recommend!

If there was anything it would probably be a bigger bed but that is just my opinion. The bed was comfortable and 2 pillows were provided. 1 soft and 1 harder depending on your preference for sleeping so that was a nice touch.

Room was clean and comfortable and the shower had lots of hot water at a decent water pressure. Breakfast was very good and exceeded my expectations considerably. Staff were great and the location was perfect for a work meeting at the university. I have already recommended to my team who travel from all over the country to regularly attend meetings at the University.

The air conditioning unit wouldn't turn off and yes I did follow the instructions but the noise of that was only a minor inconvenience. Would have been nice to have more emphasis made of the discounts in local restaurants that were available on showing your key card as I went to the room dropped my case and went straight out to eat and didn't realize that I could have claimed a discount until I returned and read the room info leaflet. Again only a very minor inconvenience and I'll know for next time :-)

The staff was very helpful and tried their best to accommodate us to our needs (see negative part). So big shoutout to them. Amazingly, there is free coffee and tea available at any time of the day.

We were unlucky that there was a car show around Portsmouth, which made the prices skyrocket, so we payed quite a bit for the room. We asked for a twin bed on Booking, but apparently this does not arrive at the hotel, which most people are not aware. As all else was booked out, we could not get our request which we were unhappy about, but mostly came down to bad luck. It helps knowing that requesting on booking does not guarantee anything!

A very helpful member of staff (Charlee Payne) who moved us to a room nearer to reception as I walk slowly and use a stick, with a lovely view as well. He also placed another chair and a table to put suitcase on which was much appreciated. Very good breakfast included with a choice for all tastes and appetite. Location was perfect, everything on our doorstep. Near train and local bus service.

Standard rooms only have one chair for two people and no space or drawer for clothes other than 2 or 3 hangers each but I understand that this is an express hotel so set up for short stays.

The location could not have been better. Beautiful view (top floor) to the harbour. Walking distance to all attractions, restaurants, coastal walk, shops. Also walking distance and flat surfaces from hotel to trains, buses and ferries. We would stay here again.

The breakfast was lacking in choices, trays or plates often empty, breakfast room crowded and tables not cleaned and ready for use. The heating/cooling system in the room and hotel overall was not functioning well and a fan was offered to help. This meant trying to sleep in a room that was 27 to 28 degrees Celsius. Other than those 2 concerns we were very pleased with the hotel and staff and would stay there again. I did not see any other hotel better situated.

Location was ideal for both the train station and the fast cat ferry terminal for Isle of Wight. It was also handy for public transport if you wished to visit Southsea and in easy walking distance for visiting the Victory, Mary Rose etc.

Communication between Bookings.com and the IHG group of which Holiday Inn Express is part is poor. To clarify for example when booking through Bookings.com you specify the type of room you wish but this information does not get through to the chosen hotel. If you want a twin room for example it's best to phone the chosen hotel direct after booking through Bookings.com to ensure that the specified room you asked for is the one you get.

Arrived at reception and was greeted by a lovely friendly member of staff..he mentioned that infortunately air conditioning had failed 😱on the hottest day. Lady member of staff (evening cover) managed to find us a fan..thank goodness..she was brilliant. Felt rooms needed decorating but we were comfortable..bed lovely. Plenty of must haves in the room..hair dryer..iron tea coffee body and shampoo wash all complimentary. Loved the free parking a bonus and saved us £26.

Breakfast was chaotic..we found a small low table and chairs could have done with a bigger breakfast area...we just had a cple of teas and left..noticed cutlery was dirty...just didn't feel comfortable..we thought we would have a leisurely breakfast as we were meeting family a little while later..but decided not to stay and had breakfast else where. Shame otherwise all good. There was only one lady working in restaurant trying to do everything..felt sorry for her. She deserves a medal.
