Aircon worked super well! Especially for the time of year. Construction barely bothered us (we stayed from Wednesday night to Monday morning) however I was on the 8th floor which I think was away from it. Shower had a nice large showerhead which could be moved around with a lot of range. Water pressure from all sources was high and heating was quick. 24 hour reception was a must have for me as I was flying in at 11:30pm

If I'm being absolutely picky the sink didn't drain very well but the hotel was not aware of the issue and let me know they would fix it. If I were to be EXTREMELY picky I had requested a black pillow case or linen as I have dyed hair but they only have white linen (which is absolutely perfectly fine, just something to note)

Hotel is great value for money and is in a excellent location in Brisbane, everything is a short walk away. The young woman receptionist we spoke to in the morning was very friendly and helpful. She gave us a lot of information about the area which was very much appreciated. Room was in very good condition, clean and very spacious. There is refurbishment works going on which we could only hear on a weekday, which doesn't really matter as we were out all day anyway. Refreshing to see a hotel actually refurbishing the rooms, as many hotels are very outdated. Great value for money will visit again.

The location of The Great Southern Hotel is fantastic! The night we stayed there was a festival of light and sound just across the road along the river! It was beatiful, vibrant and a lot of fun and thanks to the block out curtains in the room didn't disrupt sleep,. The beds are comfortable and the staff is willing to help with any problems. The full breakfast is great value and is cooked on demand rather than having to pick from a buffet which avoids cross contamintion for those that need to be careful :) There is parking onsite although this isn't always included.

The hotel currently has renovation work being done so it is a good idea to ask for a room on a high floor to avoid the possibility of being woken around 7am. The staff are happy to provide this and if you are an early riser this isn't a problem.

Our stay coincided with a less busy period for the hotel and we were allocated a larger (sleeps 4) room that had recently been renovated as part of the current total refurbishment of the hotel. Location was excellent, room was spotless and spacious, bed firm but extremely comfortable, bedlinen very good. Two things that delighted us were the view of the river and neighbouring new Casino complex and the quietness of the room even though it was facing the street.

The air conditioning was a little noisy sounding a little like gurgling water. Otherwise the quietness of the room was exemplary. We were never aware of any construction noise even though we could see workmen working on different floors to the one on which our room was situated..

We liked the locality of The Great Southern Hotel but it was rather pricey for us. I wonder if we stayed longer than 2 nights, the rates might come down. However, its locality right in the heart of Brisbane like the Queen Street Mall, Central Station, bus stations, etc. was well worth staying because we shared the accommodation (hence the rate). The room is okay (single room, twin bed), but need to be refurbished as it’s pretty old). Being able to have breakfast early morning is also a plus point. Lastly, Staff were excellent, very friendly & accommodating. All in all, we enjoyed staying with The Great Southern. Will come back for a longer stay like perhaps a whole week if the rates are reduced.

The rooms could have been better. Also, additional racks in the bathroom to hang out wet towels are needed badly. There’s only one rack. There’s nothing worse than wet towels hanging on top of each other. (I suppose the rooms we got were catered for short period of stay, like a night or two. Still, extra racks to hang wet towels would be an improvement to the bathrooms).

Included breakfast definitely worth it and a huge reason we chose this place. (When we went this included- eggs any way/bacon/sausages/hashbrowns/baked beans/toast/cereal/yoghurt/juice/machine coffee or tea.) Close proximity to conference I attended and public transport. Very nice and helpful 24/7 Reception and kitchen staff. We didn't expect to be on the top floor but the views were gorgeous!! Only 2 lifts, which can take a little while, but not a big deal. Good sized room. (Paid) laundry facilities available.

(We knew this in advance but just in case others wonder) - No pool (but the Southbank public pool is a cool alternative if you don't think a beautiful 22C day is too cold to swim in!) No bathtub in our room. We didn't need to park so can't comment on that.

This overall rating is for my experience with the hotel over time. This review is based on my most recent stay. I had booked for Mon,Tues then Thurs night in a separate booking because State of Origin night on the Wed meant Bris hotel prices were ridiculous (one night cost the same as a complete 4 night stay! ) My Wed night accommodation fell through so I had to fly home early and cancel the Thurs booking. When I cancelled the hotel immediately refunded even though it was too late according to their policy on Booking.com Staff are always friendly and courteous. Very convenient to CBD, arts precinct, casino. Breakfast is good value. I keep coming back.

Very hard to have a sleep in as Housekeeping start early and are noisy. If there are 2 people working on the same floor they have loud conversations. On the second day I was sick and was in bed all day but construction noise right above my head was super loud like someone dropped a tip skip. Expected the roof to cave in at any minute.

This hotel’s asset is its location; near shops and restaurants, ferry terminal, free city bus stop and Botanic gardens but in a quiet location. I probably was in a refurbished room because the carpet seemed new and clean, so was the bathroom. Enough bench space in the bathroom plus 2 shelves and under sink cabinet. Good size room.

As per previous reviews, the mattress is a bit lumpy, the shower very small. No outdoor space. As for the inside construction noise, it is loud but luckily for me they didn’t work on the weekend.

Everything really. We were lucky to be on level 12 which has mostly been renovated and a room facing George St and the river. Staff very accommodating. Other levels not so good as renovations still happening. Is what it is, but renovation work is mentioned on the booking site. Noise didn't effect us during the day as we were out exploring. Breakfast was a very reasonable prices. $9 for Continental, tea coffee tinned fruit , yoghurt, toast, jams etc. Lovey coffee machine. Full breakfast $17.
