This room has a king-sized bed with a padded linen headboard, deep spring mattress, quilted latex overlay and quality cotton sheets and pillowcases. The carved antique wardrobe is French, circa 1890. There is an elegant chair with original Victorian handmade needlework. 1 of the bedside tables is Georgian, solid mahogany, while the other was made locally of Tasmanian oak in about 1930. In the bathroom, a ceramic sink from one of Hobart’s magnificent Henry Hunter mansions stands on a Victorian marble washstand. The cast iron bath with its four poster curtained shower is possibly original to the house.

An interesting property with clean and comfortable rooms, if a little cold. Absolutely beautiful garden. Parking is challenging and its a stiff walk to town, especially the return which is uphill.

This is a bed and breakfast but didn't exude the warm welcome one really expects from a B+B. Things were a little impersonal with noone onsite for much of the day or night. Messages sent by email and phone were not seen/acknowledged and had to be followed up. The bathroom was stone cold with radiators not working and we had to request a free standing heater. Breakfast was good but rather rules based about what could/could not be selected from the menu, with a charge for a second cup of coffee on top of the $36 charge. The accommodation was interesting but disappointing in terms of value for money and welcoming feel.

The historic home is absolutely delightful and the garden is beautiful too. The sitting room was also gorgeous.

The breakfast is good but not excellent. I found myself wanting more fresh fruit and better quality bread. Also for the price the serving sizes are not large. At these prices I expected a buffet or freedom to choose whatever you want from the menu instead of being limited to one drink (juice or tea but not both!), one entre and one main. It should have a buffet section with unlimited toast, yoghurt, cereal, fruits (ei continental) and a choice of a cooked main from the menu. Not really up to scratch at this price point.

Truly exceptional historical location, with a commitment to excellence that springs through every single appliance, decoration, amenity or throughout this incredibly beautiful grand house. This is the paragon of luxury, comfort, tranquillity with a breathtaking view on the ocean (Alfred's suite) and grandiose period features, furniture combined with the latest technologies. A coziness that oozes from the plush bathrobes, fantastic bed, immaculate cleanliness down to the indescribable beauty and delicacy of the antiques that decorate the room. A rare, very rare place to stay and which makes for an unforgettable sojourn

Nothing can be faulted: this is one of those locations which you will never forget, and that delivers much more than excellent value for money. It offers you the memory of a lifetime.

As a heritage buff, I found it thrilling to stay in a beautiful heritage property featuring gorgeous period furniture and vintage decor. The property owners have clearly devoted much effort to restoring the property and preserving its heritage. Our room, the Basil Crisp room, was full of framed vintage pictures and even had a bicycle that once belonged to Basil Crisp. We also enjoyed admiring the views from the veranda and wandering around the lovely garden grounds.

While the decor of the room is undeniably lovely, there were a few impracticalities. Chief amongst these was the vintage porcelain sink - it was very pretty, but the distance from the tap was so short that it was quite a challenge to use the sink. Another small issue we faced that the main two charging points were so close to the toilet door that we couldnt open the door without knocking into our chargers/phones. The size of the room also doesn't seem to be as big as 42sqm as advertised on Booking.com (as a few other reviewers have observed).

Beautiful hotel. Unique and so much to see. I sat on every antique chair or sofa i saw. The garden was delightful!!! The room was super comfortable. Bed was amazing. The stories abt my room and the hotel was wow. The bath was abit tricky, it was hot n cold n hot n cold, it was frustrating to take a shower. Wifi was great. Location is not bad. I walked to town, it was a nice lovely walk, took me 15mins. I also took uber and it was cheap to get to middle of town. The honesty bar was cool!

Staff were polite . But i felt no warmth of the usual hotel staff. Curt and professional but thats abt it. I assume a small hotel like this will have a more personal touch and charm with service. However it didnt bother me..it was just my observation.

This was such a charming place to stay in. All of the details are wonderful and I love the connection to the history of the owner. All the rooms are different and individual, we stayed in the Verandah room. It was lovely, appointed well, and very comfortable with great views. The main attraction is the house itself. There are so many things to look at, so many artefacts. There is also an honesty bar which we loved, and we wanted to thank the owner for being considerate of our use of the honesty bar. We did not realise that the champagne was sold by the bottle so we poured ourselves a couple of glasses, thinking we could pay by the glass. The owner was very happy to just charge half the bottle, which we were very grateful for. Breakfast was delicious and relaxing, served on the ground floor balcony. In addition, the gardens are stunning and we loved wandering around the gardens after breakfast. Would highly recommend to stay at this beautiful property.

Other guests at the accommodation could peek into your room if they wanted to, but there are shades.

The property is just beautiful inside and out. The gardens are superb. I spoke with the lovely man who tends the gardens & it’s clear how passionate he is about preserving the history of the grounds whilst making it practical & beautiful for today’s guests. The interior is lovely, loaded with interesting items and many paintings which made our short stay special. All the staff we met were friendly and very accommodating. We were able to leave our bags at the property for a few hours after checkout which was really appreciated.

The bathroom and separate toilet are quite small which made it a bit difficult to move around comfortably. Shower definitely needs some love & taps in hand basin are a challenge to use. Heated towel rail and under floor heating in the bathroom were great. The room felt a bit stuffy but we turned off the heater & opened the window which helped. The main stairs and hallway were very creaky so every coming and going is noisy. Breakfast was super tasty but the way it’s done didn’t feel generous.

The host was lovely and very welcoming. She had stayed behind ,as we was running late! checked us in and showed us the lounge room where there was an honesty bar ,you could help yourself to a drink or cocktail ,write down in the book what you drank and they charge you when you depart. The room was very toasty!😁 We couldn't figure out how to turn the heating down! even the bathroom floor was heated! A lovely room, beautiful old furnishings and pictures. Was nice to be able to make a cuppa. Sat out on the verandah with a cocktail and watched the sunset.Would definitely stay here and recommend to family and friends 🥰🥰

The place was just a place to stay it was an experience, the finer details added into this like the honesty bar and the gardens to walk through were amazing. I felt like I went back in time The bed and room itself were even larger than in the pictures

It isn’t the place but the area, it’s a short walk, under 20 minutes to get to the main areas in Hobart. If you aren’t a fan of walking there is some uphill battles, Ubers were under $10 if that is preferred but the walks were great for us to walk off our hearty meals

This is possibly one of the cutest places I have ever stayed in (the gardeners cottage)! It felt like we were in a fairy tale! It was at the bottom of the garden away from the main house surrounded by the manicured gardens and fairy lights. It had everything we needed (included washing machine powder!) and the little house was so useable. It was also surprisingly warm for an old house and took no time to heat up (in winter). We had our own car space in the driveway! Location wise it was walking distance to the city and north hobart cafe strip etc.

Nothing. it was perfect.
