great location, cool old building, we loved the ping pong and pool tables. comfy, clean bed and pillows. staff were friendly. we had been hiking for 5 nights so it was a welcome change, but it might not be everyones cup of tea. cheap and cheerful! good for groups
it was a bit grubby - the walls in our room really needed a good wash. the bathrooms were quite clean. for the price and location we were happy.

I tried the YHA, the Pickled frog, and this one, and it is the best hostel in Hobart in my opinion. The hostel is huge, big rooms, large common spaces. Maybe I feel like that because there was not a lot of people when I was there.
The reception close so early, at 3 p.m, and it is the same for the luggage storage and the laundry, fortunately I did not use both of them, but it can be a big problem for a lot of peoples.

The beds were comfortable and clean. There's nothing extra or fancy about it. It feels safe and had an OK vibe. Seems very much too big to really have a kind of hub, or soul. But it ok. No complaints. Nice to have Netflix!
The pool table is terrible. The 'games' area is kind of lifeless. Just a good place to dry washing. But if you're travelling with friends or a partner, then I guess those people don't care. But for a solo traveller it didn't feel sociable. I had better conversations in the ladies bathroom. Lol.

Great staff and regulars. All very friendly and social. THE MOST comfortable bed in a dorm in my 2+yrs of travelling. The 7 bed dorm was all single beds with 10", possibly 12" thick mattresses. Excellent showers with plenty of space and consistent water flow. Easy walk to the pier where most things leave from, including the Sky Bus. Great city. Brilliant attractions. Unique. A whole different world to the rest of Aus.
No elevator to get heavy luggage upstairs.

No breakfast, but well stocked clean kitchen. Enough fridges. Great position. Surrounded by great food places. Mostly very clean, one bathroom dirty (Lsdies near night exit 2nd floor). Cold showers too often on 2nd floor, but others available. Great handling of fire alarm going off early morning by Fire Service.
Cold showers. 2~Bed share with (a strange person a permanent guest, looking at all the clutter... unfriendly, rude, bright lights on during night hours till 3 am, closing window less air etc). Most people would not have coped. Staff were mostly good, and helpful. Some reception staff perfunctory. Floors noisy to walk on at night (old building).

Beds are confortable and there are quite a lot of bathrooms so no waiting time :) The staff are really efficient.
The building is quite old a seiling parts are missing, one of the dryer didn't work properly and we paid A LOT (40$ for two hours and two machines at the same time) for using this for at the end dried our clothes inside our bedroom. Way cheaper to go to a laundry place. The kitchen was dirty and equipment needed a deep clean.

Fantastic location. Must be the comfiest bed I ever had in a hostel. Quite spacey. And very quiet for a large hostel.
It's a tall building with a lot of stairs, I have an injured knee and there's no elevator to take, so it was quite painful. Some bedrooms and bathrooms need a deep cleaning. The building smells to humidity all the time.

Able to change my booking date easily. Thank you. Key access great. Heater in room was perfect.
One rattly window. It was a very windy night. The quilt was a bit thin. I folded it double.

The beds were very comfortable and our room was very well located. Bathrooms and facilities were very clean.
The pigs who use the kitchen need to wash up, dry and put away everything they use. True Backpackers know that if you use it, you wash it up, dry it and put it back for the next person to use.

Comfy king single bed close to bathroom on the 1st floor. Staff member was friendly.Allows for late check in as long as you contact when making your booking.
Climbing the stairs to reception on 1st floor and climbing another flight to the kitchen, which closes at 10 pm so was unable to get a hot drink when I returned from work.
