Location was very good, central to dining shopping, landmarks. Room was basic but clean. We walked to our dinners and took a walk to the harbor too. Breakfast was not complimentary but I felt it was worth money paid. Lots of variety, fresh and the 2 ladies working the breakfast room were so welcoming and hospitable.

I interacted with 4 different front desk staff and all were uniformly had lukewarm attitude. A friendly welcome and willingness to provide information about the hotel and the area is not too much to expect? Alda is rated as a 4 star hotel but staff is not up to par. Room could use bit more lighting. At night it was dim even with all lights on.

We needed to cancel our accommodation at a place down the street and booked a room at the Alda mainly because it was so close. We were so glad that we did. The friendly staff stored our luggage for free before we could check into our room at 3:00 pm. The lobby is a nice spot to sit and relax for a little while. We loved our comfortable, clean, and nicely appointed room on the second floor. Our beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom was good sized. The water pressure in the shower was good. It was quiet, despite the fact that it looked out onto busy Laugavegur Street. We experienced a moderate earthquake the night of July 5 (4.7 on the Richter scale), followed by several smaller tremors, and the only effect it had on our room was that it caused one of our windows to shut. My husband and I were favorably impressed the next morning by the breakfast buffet, which had an excellent variety of food for vegetarians (eggs, potatoes, fruit, cereal, cheeses, pastries). Lastly, the Alda is located in a great, central location, for tourists.

The Rooms with the balconies were great as you could get Fresh air, the other room which I was in originally the window wouldn't open. The staff helped when the room was quite noisy and they moved me. The Food from the cafe downstairs was good, you need to collect it or use delivery service as there is no room service. There is also no mini bar but there is a fridge with basics in foyer. Bed was very comfy. Location is excellent. Good to have a spa, although quite small area and basic outside.

Would have liked to have a mini bar with water provided in room. It was essentially a good 4 star but you pay bit more the location which is excellent, near bus stops for tours and right in the Main Street with lots of restaurants. The rooms at the back were nice and quiet.

Location: The hotel location is perfect, within the heart of Reykjavik. Due to this it does mean that buses and minibuses are restricted from driving with the zone. Most tour pick ups will be from either BSI terminal which is around 15 minute walk or bus stop #9 Snoorbaut which is around a 3 minute walk. There are plenty of shops and restaurants on the same street as the hotel. Most places are within walking distance, Perlman museum was around 25 minute walk.. There are also plenty of scooters around to rent Check in: On arrival to the hotel the checkin process was quick and easy. Staff were very welcoming. When you check in you are given a mobile phone for use throughout your trip, to make local calls, use maps and call reception if needed. Front desk is open 24hours a day Hotel facilities: The lobby is lovely with the restaurant to one side, a homely seating area and also a barbers in the lobby too. Just before the lift there is a water fountain for free refills of sparkling or still. You will find many water fountains around Reykjavik so make sure you take a water bottle with you to save on buying any. Next to the front desk there is a small snack area, perfect for packed lunches before trips, we didn’t buy anything from here so could not compare quality or price but is a convenient option. There is also a small gym with dumbbells, cross trainer and treadmill, there is also a hot tub and sauna. The facilities are very well looked after and the sauna is perfect after a long day of exploring. The gym facilities are included in your stay and open from 6am-10pm Hotel Room: We stayed in a standard guest room. Our room was located on the 3rd floor and over looked a courtyard type space, and a cute little house. The room itself was lovely and clean, there is a hanging space with limited hangers - you could probably ask reception for more but it wasn’t an issue for us as there was plenty of shelving to put clothes on.

Location is unbeatable- close to EVERYTHING. Staff were so warm , hospitable and accommodating. They give you a smart phone which you can use anywhere and make local calls. I will be staying here in future.

Breakfast should be included. But it’s very delicious

Hotel nicely located in the main shopping area, within walking distance to many attractions, but far enough from downtown Reykjavik to be fairly quiet at night. The staff were amazing - very friendly and helpful. There was free WiFi which was excellent throughout the hotel. The breakfast was lovely with lots of choice, scrambled egg, sausages, potato with bacon bits, baked beans, pastries, rolls, waffles, Skyre yogurt, etc. Also the restaurant had lovely food, if a little limited in choice. We had a deluxe room with sea and mountain views and that was very adequate and comfortable. Bed was the best we've slept in away from home. The whole place had a laid back relaxed atmosphere which made us laid back and relaxed too.

The TV was very temperamental, that's all. It kept freezing then going off which was a bit frustrating.

The location of this hotel is amazing! Right in the middle of downtown Reykjavik and in the middle of all the action. They also keep the hotel looking very posh and clean. There's a restaurant/bar which is adjacent to the hotel and a barber shop. The hotel also offers free water refills.

The sink in the bathroom was tiny so water sort of splashed everywhere at times. Also we did have a situation with our bed covers however once we notified the front desk the manager quickly resolved the issue. We were also over charged at the end but because we reviewed it before checking out and presented proof, one of the front desk ladies corrected it for us. So check your receipts.

The location was exceptional! I loved having a wraparound balcony. It snowed so much I loved being able to walk outside into it. The views were lovely!

I am a chef and have been in the restaurant business for decades. The staff in the restaurant at this hotel were the rudest young men I have ever encountered in a restaurant. I was shocked! I only went in for coffee and dessert and I never went back.

We couldn't be happier with our choice of hotel during our short break to Reykjavik last week. We were lucky to receive a free room upgrade to a Deluxe Room at the time of booking and our room on the 3rd floor was extremely spacious with a little bit of seaview. The location is perfect for EVERYTHING! Good restaurants, cafes and supermarkets nearby, bus stop no. 9 for all tours pick up/drop off and airport transfer is literally less than 5 mins walk away. L'occitane shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and liquid soap are provided in the bathroom but somehow missing the body lotion. Alda will definitely be our first choice of hotel if we're to visit Reykjavik again.

We think the sound proofing of the rooms could be a little bit better. Although we're on the 3rd floor, we could still hear street noises from below especially loud music blasting out from cars driving past.
