Hotel was very easy to locate - not a lot of available space to park the car while checking in. Was excellently located close to everything we wished to access. Dunedin is a very walkable city and the concierge and front desk staff were able to assist with all our enquiries, store luggage and arrange transport to the airport. Bar staff were fabulous. The room was a little on the small side, but totally adequate for our needs. If you stay here, you must use the 'old' elevator at least once, just for the experience.

Had we retained our car for the time we were there, it would have been reasonable expensive to park/access valet parking - would therefore recommend the hotel to those that do not require parking facilities.

Beautiful room - lovely decor and furnishings and very comfortable. Bed was extremely comfortable. I enjoyed being able to watch a newly released movie - instructions were very clear for finding a movie. Room service was very prompt and staff were very polite and helpful. The food was scrumtious and beautifully presented. Loved the special touches such as a warming drink on arrival and reception staff sorting my airport shuttle.

My iPad ran out of battery power by morning so I suggest a charger in the room would be useful. Would have preferred my tea at breakfast (room service) in a teapot rather than a disposable takeaway cup.

The property was, as stated, within walking distance to the Octagon and many restaurants and cafes. It is a beautiful hotel and the room was stately and well-appointed. The bed was very comfortable. The property is near the harbour, and close to the road leading to the Peninsula. Well placed for our travel needs. Staff was professional and matter of fact. The welcome tea was a nice touch. Parking was available on the street and is free between 6 pm - 9 am the following morning. The photos posted in the listing represent the rooms and property well.

We did note that the shower floor tile was slippery so took care when showering. Other than that, no issues.

The room was excellent and the beds amazing. Bathroom little small, but can't complain it was just fine. Breakfast included was delicious thankyou. Meal at night very expensive, but delicious. We had a meal at the Casino the next night, which was amazing and half the price. You need to check it out.... Many thanks for the stay, Our Great Aunt was Catherine Jenkins Wain. Your evening meal could be cheaper, you would retain more customers.

Lovely, low-key, well-designed hotel well-located within walking distance of most CBD destinations. Interior design is contemporary and inviting, staff is lovely, and breakfast menu included in cost of room provided a welcome range of tasty choices. The hotel has struck a perfect balance between honouring its historic structure while creating a clean, modern vibe. Bed is comfortable, room temperature controls work flawlessly, and everything was genuinely immaculately clean. It was easy to find free on-street parking between 6pm and 9am nearby all three nights we stayed. We'll definitely be back, with Fable Dunedin as our new "homebase" when we're in town.

Our particular room was a bit small, though compensated for by the three large arched windows with a city/bay view.

Location allowed us to walk to many attractions and restaurants while visiting Dunedin. Room was clean and well appointed. We paid for valet parking and service was prompt when we did need our vehicle.

The building is older (but beautifully updated and kept) so room was smaller than I expected with limited room for two suitcases. Pictures make the room look more spacious than they are. Some rooms require use of stairs once exiting the elevator due to layout; this was not an issue for us but if you have a mobility issue be sure to let reception know when booking.

Quite central location. Nice design and restaurant. The room we got looked into the inner space of 3 sqm while the hotel was not completely booked and also we booked few weeks around a month in advance. Parking is greatly organised. As well as hotel support by I pad.

Wi fi did not work in the restaurant. The room without windows indeed I think make sense to offer only when the vacancy rate is just zero. Not before.

We booked this for our son and his girlfriend who needed the business facilities for a 4 hour zoom job interview in the UK. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful - both ahead of the stay when choosing a room and also during their stay. This included allowing him to use the conference room at 3am. Room service meant that they could eat before the interview started and the quality of the room was amazing. Having been camping and staying in hostels until this point they were stunned by their Wains Suite. Special mention to Lachlan and Sarah-Jayne.

They loved everything

Great location in the heart of Dunedin. Recently renovated and very modern inside and out. Room whilst small was still OK though it was a bit tight with two suitcases. Bed was excellent and the bathroom was very nice. Staff were excellent. Absolutely superb restaurant on the premises (The Press Club).

Not much. As mentioned, the room is a little small but for one or two nights its perfect. Car parking is by valet and not cheap at $40 but again it is not a big issue. Elevators only stop at even numbered floor so you have to use stairs from the nearest floor to rooms on the odd numbered levels.

Great decor. Friendly staff. When I booked, I asked for recommendations for plant-based/vegan restaurants. The check-in person provided a printed list of restaurants. That was great.

Hotel rooms need doors in the bathrooms. If not the whole bathroom, at least the toilet. The toilet door should go to the ceiling. I would not recommend this hotel for a romantic getaway. There are some things that just need to be private. I don't know anyone that likes this ridiculous open-plan bathroom concept.
