Nice little hostel with great facilities - huge kitchen, nice dining space and outdoor seating area. the location was fantastic, right over the road from the bus interchange. It was great that we could leave our extra luggage at no cost while walking the Abel Tasman Track. (A bit extra to leave bags if you're not returning.)
The single rooms at the front above the street were poorly insulated and very hot and noisy, with other guests sitting outside on the street to keep socialising after quiet time. We had a room at the back on the return trip, which was much better, although a bed with a bedhead or a wall would be great in the twin rooms. It's hard to sit up and read if you don't get the bed against the wall.

What keeps me coming back is the combination of its welcoming atmosphere, excellent facilities, and unbeatable location. The communal areas are fantastic, especially the spacious lounge and outdoor spaces, where it’s easy to relax or socialize with other travelers. The kitchen is always clean and well-equipped, making it convenient to prepare meals during my stay. The rooms are comfortable and well-maintained, and I always appreciate the staff’s friendliness and attention to detail. They genuinely make you feel at home and are always ready with helpful tips for exploring the area. Its location in the heart of Nelson is another big plus—it’s so easy to walk to local shops, cafes, and attractions, yet it still offers a peaceful vibe.

I stayed at Bridge Backpackers on two occasions during my recent trip to Nelson. The first time I stayed in a single room with ensuite and the second in a single room with shared bathroom. I enjoyed both my stays. The rooms are a good size and beds were comfortable. The communal kitchen and dining area is a good size, with great facilities. Showers were good and the shared facilities were still quite private and clean. The laundry facilities are shared between the hostel and guests so they were in use a lot (ie, washing hostel sheets and towels) which meant they weren't available often but I still got my washing done. The property is very secure, well-located and very reasonably priced. I will stay again on my next trip.
Dedicated guest laundry facilities would be great

This hostel is in a great location facilities are good with a dining, lounge and outdoor area. The hostel was clean and is good value for money
Struggled to sleep on the top bunks as there were no railings on the side of the bed, there is only one working washing machine and dryer that were occupied by the hostel bedding so we were unable to do any washing here alot of the larger hobs didn't work In the kitchen which made cooking difficult at peak times

Fantastic. Loved staying here. Comfortable. Nice feel about it. Great rooms. Modern facilities.
Only thing I can fault is it wasn't clean in places that are quite easy to clean. An old toothbrush along the gunky shower seals, a bit of jif on the very dirty 4 plug extension cord, a dust rag along the window sills etc. And please buy new pillows. The plastic part of the fabric was brittle making the fabric thread-bare, and all the filling had set into clumps. They were a bit gross. Maybe even pillow protectors over which the pillow cases went.

I used the new laundry facilitiy and my hiking gear came back out sparkling. The kind staff let me store my spare bag for a few days while I was away hiking The Able Tasman Costal Track. My return stay was even better.
I wanted to get a late check-out on my return stay but there was no option (was ok with paying extra) but they said they were full the following day so I had no chance. Which was quite understandable but would have been nice to have a sleep-in after a long hike.

i enjoyed my stay here. i spent 2 nights on two separate days and actually got the same room which had a private bathroom. so i'm just going to review both stays on this one review. staff were friendly and helpful. i had ordered a part for my camera and they held it for me. i was also able to store my luggage for free while i was on the Abel Tasman Track because i was staying another night there, otherwise it's a small fee. towels were included in the price which was nice. i didn't really use the common dining room/lounge area but it was very big and nice. kitchen was large as well. i mainly kept my food in the fridges. it's also very close to the electric buses that will take you to the Nelson airport and the drop off area for some of the Able Tasman shuttle. also very close to some nice little restaurants and shops and i was able to walk to the New World for groceries. basically it's very conveniently located.
took a little bit for the water to warm up in the shower. not a big deal. there's a sign that warns you of it. lol. i wish the laundry room was opened a little later but i understand you don't want it to be too late.

Perfect location right in central Nelson. Bus stop/supermarket/cafes all close by. Bathrooms are shared but well maintained and clean. Kitchen can be a bit busy but is well equipped with plenty of counter space and storage boxes for food. Several hang out areas and a nice big dining room. Late check in was straightforward and Wi-Fi worked well.
It lacks a little personality overall but is clean efficient and centrally located. Dorms - top bunks are very high, difficult to climb and no safety rail. Dorm rooms had storage spaces under beds but were very cramped without any real space to unpack or get dressed. Reception closes at 5pm and if you need to call staff after this time they charge a $20 call out fee. There were some loud drunken lads in one of the downstairs dorms one night and I wished there was a staff member around who could’ve tried to quieten them down. Overall seems to attract a younger crowd

We were two couples soo booked two ensuite rooms. There was a super fast heater in each room that made the room very warm very quickly. This is much appreciated. The shower was very hot and powerful. There was good signage throughout the property about quiet times and it seemed all the guests abided by the rules which was absolutely fantastic.
The fan venting the bathroom is VERY LOUD! The metal staircase was a bit loud when heavy footed guests came - luckily most were considerate! Be careful of walking into the corners of open windows as they are a bit off Health and Safety issue!

The room we were in was great. Spacious and comfortable. The common room and kitchen were awesome also. Also like that the entire place had coded doors to get in so it was completely secure.
The shower. There’s a raised platform to get into the shower so it meant I was eye lever with the shower head and it was leave with my partners collar bone and he had to crouch to use it.
