The hostel is in a quiet street but only a 10 - 15 minute walk from town. It has a lovely garden at the front with tables and seating etc to enjoy some sun/fresh air. Indoors it also has a relaxing lounge area with lots of books and games for rainy or colder days. And of course we loved the chocolate pudding at 8pm! We stayed in a twin room for a couple of nights and then stayed for one night in a quad share room a few days later and both were spacious and had opening windows.

As the hostel is used by a lot of folks who go tramping, and NZ is battling invasive algea in it's rivers and lakes, a trough for cleaning boots, tent pegs etc would have been useful.

Everything was fantastic. The hostel staff created a social, relaxed, but professional / well-run atmosphere. It was an optimal mix -- social hostel that attracted a lot of backpackers in their 20s / 30s, but since many people are there for hiking & are waking up early, it wasn't a party hostel where your roommates are all out until 1AM or later (although if that's what you're after, people definitely did go out). Lots of spots to hang out, meet people, or find your own little corner both inside and outside. The kitchen was large and clean, loved the hot chocolate cake event every evening. Also an incredible value for price

I visited in February and one of the nights (after a hot day) it was stuffy in the room. A fan, AC, or window that opened more to let in the night time breeze would have made a huge difference. But reception was already closed so I couldn't get a fan at that point unfortunately :(

Lovely hostel. Nice rooms and super nice lounge/ kitchen / dining area/ outside area. The lounge is super cosy with the fire going at night and the free choc pudding is a bonus. It can be as social as you make it. Very clean. Decent bathrooms. Good prices for washing and nice you can hang your things to dry outside (although not in the weather I experienced) The reception staff are super friendly and can help with anything. Had a bit of an issue during out of staff hours but Geordie was super quick to contact me and resolve it as soon as she heard which for me makes it a super thoughtful backpackers. I felt like they genuinely cared about everyone there. It’s slightly out of town but if you have legs you’ll survive

Lovely, private setting and landscaping despite being in a neighborhood. Easy walk into central Nelson.Hot chocolate pudding and ice cream every nigh at 8pm. Plenty of private area to sit outside. Very pleasant, helpful staff. Clean, neat, well kept up. Very fair price. Lovely to share time and space with young traveling people from around the world.

We seniors were in the minority and probably were the first to go to bed before quiet time started at 10:30, but expected that to be the case, after staying in backpackers before.

Lots of nice touches like hostels in days gone by...little things like water bottles and shopping bags you are invited to use but just return after use, $2 laundry, lots of drying lines in the garden, free tea/coffee/sugar including ground coffee, and their famous free choc pudding and ice cream every night...chance to digitally disconnect and talk face to face. Just brilliant!

The heavy doona on the bed...too hot. A light blanket or cover alternative would have made sleeping more comfortable.

Very nice hostel, very 'old school', with a large living room and a nice garden. The showers and toilets were super clean, the area felt safe. The hostel is 15 minutes walk from the bus terminal, 20 minutes walk from a Woolworth. They also serve chocolate pudding and ice cream in the evening which is super nice. The premises might look a bit old, but at the end of the day the place is clean, the area is safe and it's really good value for money and that it's what is important. Would recommend to friends!

Very homey - it was situated in a residential area, but still within walking distance of the downtown and attractions like the Centre of NZ Monument. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my private room had an en suite toilet and sink! The free chocolate pudding and ice cream each night is also a plus, and it makes it easy to connect with other travelers.

The shower head was small and didn't have great water pressure. But this is definitely not a deal breaker!

Cosy double room and very clean in both the kitchen and bathroms! Staff also super friendly and willing to help :) Lots of open areas to relax and socialise and thoroughly enjoyed the free pudding each night which was a nice way to meet others. Well located so it is out of the centre but a fairly short walk from the town and intercity bus stop.

Can be noisy in the evenings as the walls are fairly thin though would say that’s quite standard with most hostels!

Really nice, chilled vibe. Good facilities, i.e. kitchen and areas to relax. They make chocolate pudding every day at 8pm! The rooms had plenty of space.

The rooms could do with soundproofing. We could hear everything from the neighbouring rooms and were woken up by others opening and closing drawers in the room above. Also, we often had to wait to use the toilet and showers. It would be great it there was access to more of these or just an area with some sinks.

Everything - we’ve been travelling for over a year now and this was definitely a top 3 hostel for us! Comfortable and very well thought out hostel with loads of seating areas, great cooking facilities and of course amazing chocolate pudding. The staff are lovely and friendly and the place was very clean. Loads of board games, chilled music on all the time and respectful guests.

Could do with a few more sinks / mirrors in the bathrooms as it gets congested at times and also the carpet in our private room could do with a shampoo as it was a little smelly but these are such minor points in the grand scheme of what the place has to offer.
