The YHA is in the middle of town and joins on to where Nelson market is on. The Nelson market on saturday is well worth the time to see. And Sunday there is another market with more 2nd hand goods Nelson is an amazing city it is vibrant and safe city. It is a beautiful city with many local spots to visit.It is the gateway to the nelson and tasman area.Which I know is the most scenic areas in New Zealand. Please take the time to visit this city And the Nelson tasman area. And dont forget the national park also this little gem is a must see beautiful beaches kayaking and tramping something for everyone What are you waiting for Welcome to the Nelson and Tasman area and the Nelson YHA

Nothing absolutely awesome experience

Friendly and helpful staff were very proactive and accommodating with our large group. We had our own kitchen and dining area to meet in. They also rearranged rooms to meet our needs. The location is great in the center of Nelson, right next to grocery stores, shopping, and the Saturday Market. Everything was kept impeccably clean. Thus was the best hostel we stayed in New Zealand! They were also very helpful in arranging outings for everyone. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Only minor negative was the lack of water pressure in the showers, but still adequate. No complaints at all otherwise.

Excellent location. Great common areas and kitchen spaces. Fantastic staff, particularly the manager (think his name is Royce) who is knowledgeable and helpful. Stayed in a four-bed dorm room and it was extremely spacious.

Shower water pressure weak and temp was difficult to regulate (I tried two different stalls). Important to note for travelers working or studying that internet here is limited daily and you will have to pay a small fee for exceeding it. As I'm doing online courses, this was a problem for me on principle. My opinion is this a backward policy that should be revised or otherwise factored into cost of the stay.

I loved it that my room was quiet ( not much hostel noise) and the bed was comfortable and set on the opposite side of the room from the door. The hostel was very organised - with great facilities in the bathrooms and kitchens, and labels in the kitchen so that you could label your food when you put it in the fridge. The staff were lovely and friendly, and very helpful. Facilities and my room seemed very clean. The location was brilliant.

Only one little thing - if there had been a small lamp by the bed or a dimmable light in my room, that would have been great. I rated the 'value for money' as excellent on this survey, this is based on how much I would have paid if I had booked directly with you. I paid over $25 more for my room because I booked with booking.com. (I didn't realise that at the time )-this is not the fault of the YHA, and in future I will book direct with YHA Nelson.

Everything felt new. Great location. Amazing kitchen facilities. Great lounge. Sauna available for use. Plenty of outlets to charge stuff. General manager is one of the nicest hostel workers I've met. Everything was clean and well kept, nice carpet and curtains etc. Very much worth the price!

The bed was good but the springs were a little lumpy, could have done with a thicker over mattress. No large lockers in the room for your pack, only small ones for valuables, vibe felt safe though. No privacy curtains around the beds, but the vibe felt completely fine. Only luggage storage they have is 2$ and not big enough for a big bulky pack.

Incredible service and super friendly staff!! We felt really welcomed. The kitchen was very clean as the staff cleaned it every day (not that common among hostles we have stayed at). The rooms were also clean, the bathrooms as well. Overall, it was an amazing stay! Recommend!!! The free bread was also very appreciated🤩

Property is located near all the shops & restaurants. There is a pharmacy & cafe around the corner. Bus for Abel Tasman picks you up outside. They had a nice outdoor seating area & TV room. Staff were friendly. Beds were comfortable, however room can get quite hot during the day & night. Plenty of parking around & they offer bike hire. There are 2 kitchens.

You only get 1GB of WiFi to use throughout your stay & it is not the fastest. Not that many toilets or showers for guests to use.

The lounge was very comfortable with plenty of sofas, a couple of large TVs, books and a piano.The women's bathrooms were spotless. The kitchen and dining area were very clean and well organised. My 9 year old son and I shared a double room which was basic but warm, quiet and comfortable, with a heater that could be switched on for extra warmth. Royce at the front desk was super helpful, providing us with maps and advice on what to do in Nelson. We also enjoyed the sound of bird song in the morning :)

My son reported that the men's bathroom was not quite as spotless as the women's.

YHA Nelson is a well-regarded budget-friendly accommodation located in Nelson. They have a nice and very spacious lounge or social facility and fully equipped kitchen area for everyone. Staff is friendly and helpful. It's a good choice for backpackers, solo travelers, and those looking for affordable lodging in a convenient spot. Close to restaurants, shops and attractions.

I had a private room at this YHA. The price was similar to another private room in a hostel along the West Coast, so the amenities were a step down here. You get a basic twin bed with a chair and a small table in a small room. Nothing particularly exceptional but standard fare one would find in hostels. YHA's in New Zealand is pretty good, and Nelson's was no exception, with very large social areas and a large kitchen. The bathrooms and showers were pretty clean. Reception accommodates travelers traveling by bus and can arrange a wide arrange of tourist services or travel as needed. You are in a very central location within Nelson.

You must deal with paid parking near the hostel, there is no way around it.
