We were very impressed with the Bell Inn and the newly redecorated rooms were done beautifully. We loved the furnishing fabrics! The individual seating areas with a fire were cosy, intimate and we spent quite a lot of time using them. Despite how busy it was, the staff were always friendly and helpful and we had a lovely relaxing weekend, thank you. We will definitely recommend the Bell Inn to our friends.
The only confusion when we arrived at The Bell arose because the Reception is not where it is indicated to be (ie. it is written engraved in the glass above the archway) but in the building opposite! Paper temporary instructions were seldom seen so we met several guests with heavy cases looking lost!

We chose this location for our last night in Britain because it would be a reasonable drive the next morning to Heathrow Airport for our return flight home. We could not have been more impressed and surprised. Our room was beautiful and all the lounge, seating areas, etc throughout the hotel have been recently remodeled and what an exceptional job they've done!! Loved the pub and the dining room. Also the inside courtyard is wonderful, weather permitting. The town is known for Stilton Cheese, although it's my understanding that it's not actually produced there because of some law but they certainly do sell it and it is wonderful. I had a Ploughman's plate for dinner at the hotel restaurant which I'm still savoring in my mind.

The hotel went above and beyond with lots of little touches that made us feel welcome... hand written welcome notes from the staff, the radio on playing quiet relaxing music when we arrived after a long journey, it was just a wonderful atmosphere and a really beautiful hotel.
The only tiny annoyance was getting all the way into the 'reception' following the signs carrying 30kg of luggage and already running very late to find that reception wasn't where it was sign-posted but was instead now in the restaurant on the opposite side of the busy courtyard. We made it through check-in ok but if the move of the reception desk is permanent, they should probably move the signs to make it clear where to go to avoid a backwards and forwards trip with luggage upon arrival.

The room was really nice - the only thing was the beam going across the bathroom so if you were over 5' 5" you'd have to duck to get under it and remember to do so in the middle of the night! The bed was comfortable and there was a good selection of tea and coffee in the room. The breakfast was exceptional, probably one of the best if not the best, full English breakfasts I've had in a hotel! A lovely place to stay, steeped in history and they welcome dogs which for us was a real bonus along with the free parking! Highly recommended :)
Apart from the beam mentioned across the bathroom there wasn't anything we didn't like!

A charming coaching inn built around a courtyard with lots of cosy corners to find a quiet spot to relax and read the papers. Location near to A1M yet in a large village was ideal with street parking or car park to the side. Full English breakfast was cooked to order which was very tasty and a choice of juices, cereals, porridge, toast and croissants. Comfortable bed with a good hot rain shower. Harrogate bottled water, wide range of tea, coffee and biscuits provided. Check in and out was efficient and friendly.
The restaurant stopped serving food by 9 pm on a Friday evening and the only option provided was crisps! No additional facilities or room service.

Breakfast was excellent. I was pleased that porridge was available as an alternative to a cooked breakfast.
I was disappointed that, having booked a superior double room, the bathroom was tiny only allowing for a small shower over the bath with a shower curtain. The sloping ceiling was very low & close to the shower head so not suitable for anyone over 5'10". My husband hit his head several times while showering. The room was nicely furnished, but did not compensate for less-than-average shower I'm afraid. I would have classed it as a double rather than 'superior' room.

The staff were attentive and cheerful and engaging. When we reported a problem it was dealt with quickly and amicably. We had dinner on both nights of our stay and we enjoyed the food, as well as the wine. The bed was very comfortable, my wife and I have different expectations of bed but we both thought the bed was comfortable and we enjoyed a good nights rest.
On arrival in the room we found a mug that had not been cleaned. A simple mistake but one that put us on our guard. On notifying Reception the matter was dealt with quickly and amicably. This is important as we all recognise things can go wrong, but it is how they are dealt with that matters. Also, there were no coffee 'straws', only the Nespresso pods. These are not to our taste but Reception provided us us coffee from their staff jar...thank you and well done! Although the quality of the food was very good, I would make the point that 1 small slice of pork pie was rather mean for my main meal. However, my wife's Caesar Salad was very good, I understand.

The accomodation and breakfast were excellent and good value, and the staff were outstanding, I would particularly like to mention Jackie, Kayden, Keiran and Mark. I liked the separate coffee shop in the Bistro and little touches like the availability of decaffeinated teabags and fresh milk were most welcome.
However, I felt the evening meals were overpriced. £38 for a steak, £24 for a small piece of trout and veg. were too expensive and not anything special. This made life difficult because there is very little alternative hospitality nearby. On our 3rd evening we waited an unacceptable amount of time for our food. I suspect they were understaffed.

Beautiful four poster bedroom with lovely lighting, cosy decor . The radio was on when we arrived which was so relaxing and great tea and coffee facilities. We stayed with our dog who loved it and was a queen for a night. The staff are lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. Best breakfast I’ve had . We will definitely be staying again in the new year. Perfect location for a stopover driving North to South. We also stocked up on a Stilton selection for Christmas. Such a great stay thank you all.
The lighting in the bathroom was too bright so a softer light in there would be good. No complaints at all very happy.

Well thought out old coaching inn. Lots of places to sit away from the bar. Great staff esp the head bar person The full English breakfast is very very good
The booking policy is a bit rigorous - I’d booked a no refund room and wanted to change dates due to a family crisis but couldn’t. Also I was informed just prior to arrival there would be a wedding and possibly music until midnight; as it transpired it was a very very quiet wedding so no problem for us. Perhaps if you book one of these rooms you should be told there & then with the option to choose another date.
