Lakefront property. Smiling welcoming reception and breakfast staff. Balcony with table and chairs. Kettle! Terrace at top of hotel for viewing lake. Visitors arriving by train: the central station is above the lake on a steep hillside. There is a new funicular at the train station to take you up and down the hill from the old town. When you arrive at the bottom look for the charcuterie with hanging sausages. Then turn right and walk along this narrow street until you see a sign for the hotel. Otherwise there are many many stairs down to the hotel.

Amazing location , good breakfast , great services, clean room , parking for car was far form hotel 10 min walking , the restraint under the hotel very good, the view from balcony was great.

The view with the balcony was outstanding. Easy walking distance to everything. Right in the hub of stores, restaurants, etc. The was a phenomenal breakfast the next morning. We were pleasantly surprised at how lovely the breakfast was. We definitely would love to come back on account of the breakfast, alone. The bus pass Ticino pass is very helpful, as well.

The building is a bit older. Meaning, while laying down in the bed in the evening, you can hear water running through the pipes, You can hear some of the floor creaking, etc. Our bed was a bit small- but normal for European standards. Overall, a few observations. But not really complaints. We were very pleased, overall.

Very nice hotel, close to the city center and with an amazing view on the lake. My room was newly refurbished, it was very nice and clean. Communication with staff was smooth and they were also very helpful. Hotel has an amazing rooftop terrasse with a great view on the lake and mountains, unfortunately the weather was nice only the last day of my stay so I could not enjoy it so much, but it is one other reason to visit again. Highly recommended

the hotel is partially renovated, however my room was still one of the old… the balconies next to each other are connected, there is no wall or anything to separate so you can see all your neighbours who are on the balconies and it’s a bit embarrassing… I’d suggest to put some panels or just simply matt glass in between for some privacy, anyway not a big problem

We requested a balcony with a Lake Lugano view and it was perfect, however there is a main road between our room and the lake. We like to keep the windows open, so there was traffic noise, but it did not bother us. The hotel was a quick walk to the train station and the boat cruises were right across the street. Restaurants everywhere and shopping galore. Breakfast was very good.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Easy access to everything, fabulous views from the balcony. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We appreciated the room. Enjoyed the decor & beauty of the artwork around the hotel. Most of the staff were excellent with people. We were able to do alot in our 2 days in beautiful Lugano! (A fabulous Boat ride, funicular, delicious meals, & unexpectedly; we enjoyed a parade from our balcony!) I want to return! Thank you!

My ONLY disappoinment was that the side of the bed closest to the bathroom had a bit of a saggy mattress, so I woke up with a sore back. We were on the 2nd floor, in the room directly in front of the elevator.

I thought everything about the hotel was great. The breakfast was plentiful, with a wide selection of both hot and cold food. The location was fantastic with a great view of the lake. My room was large even though I was a solo traveler. I was very impressed with the hotel. Ton of restaurants, cane's and shops nearby.

The location was excellent and the lake view from my room was fantastic. There were many shops and restaurants in the nearby, the boat station was very close to the hotel. The hotel was right in the city center. The room was not large, but was enough for me and clean. The breakfast was good and the breakfast room had a nice view to the lake. The staff was polite and helpfull, but I didn t receive the guest card from the reception when I arrived.

The hotel staff didn t give me the guest card when I arrived and I was asked about the card during my train trip to Locarno that should have been free. I showed a paper that I found in the room, but it was not the guest card. I could have paid a fee, but the train control understood the situation. The hotel staff said that I had to ask for the card. From this hotel I moved to another hotel in Lugano, few minutes walking close, for another days. In that second hotel I got the guest card when I arrived, before going to the room. So, it was not my mistake at the hotel Walter au Lac, especially that I found a paper with all informations about the guest card in my room.
