From the time you enter you know you are in a beautiful and welcoming hotel with great woodwork throughout. The rooms were nice, spacious and quite comfortable. The spa facilities for both adults and children are first rate. Our kids were 14 & 16 and we saw all ages enjoying the spa. We spent 60-90 minutes after skiing each evening moving around the pool, hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas etc. They were all beautiful with relaxing lighting and music. Breakfast had a good selection of options including made to order eggs. Everything was very good. It wasn't the top breakfast I have had at a four star hotel in European ski resorts but still very solid and everyone will be more than satisfied. The location is off the main street at the edge of the main village about a seven minute walk into the center of the village and very quiet. The Gornergrat train is a 4-5 minute walk in ski boots. The Sunnegga train is 8-10 minute walk in ski boots and the third lift is across town and too long to walk in ski boots. The ski bus stop is just a few minutes from the hotel and takes you to the Sunnegga train in a few minutes if you don't want to walk, The Matterhorn express in around ten minutes by ski bus. While you are not in the center of the resort everything including the skiing is quite accessible without too much effort. I would highly recommend the Alpen Resort Hotel. It is an excellent choice and appeared to be a great value for the money as compared to similar quality hotels.

Bathrooms are on the smaller size but not a major issue

Clean and spacious room. Spa area was incredible! I loved the outside jacuzzi with mountain view. Super good breakfast with a lot of variety. Five minutes walking from the train station and village center (although hotel offers shuttle service). I highly recommend!

Staff were very nice and helpful. The room was perfect

The bed, mattress and the pillows were super uncomfortable. I couldn't sleep during my stay. If you have neck problems specifically, take your own pillow.

I love the resort and location. It is walkable from the zermatt station but also comes with an option of a mini shuttle running from 7am to 9pm at a call from the station central. I also love the entertainment, pool and spa which I can do within the resort. Staff were friendly as well! Had an opportunity to try out their Hornox restaurant and I think the food were pretty good. …and would like to thank the hotel for the thoughtful ‘gift’ as well! :)

There’s really nothing much to complain about.

For an unforgettable stay, book a room with a view of the Matterhorn. We stayed in Room 46, which is arguably the best in the resort. It was exceptionally spacious, tranquil, and warm, with a stunning view of the mountain range and the Matterhorn itself. The room’s elegant design and cozy atmosphere made it the perfect retreat after a day on the slopes. The hotel also boasts an amazing spa—spotlessly clean and beautifully maintained. It’s the ideal place to unwind, offering a range of facilities that elevate the relaxation experience. The spa manager was incredibly friendly, making sure every guest felt welcome and well taken care of. Service throughout the hotel was excellent. Julia at the front desk was especially helpful, always ready with recommendations and assistance that made our stay even more enjoyable. The dining experience was also a highlight, with a delicious breakfast spread and a fantastic half-board dinner option that offered great value and high-quality cuisine. Eros, our waiter, stood out for his warm and attentive service, adding a personal touch to every meal. Overall, a truly memorable experience in every aspect.

A shuttle service to the base of the ski lifts would have been a fantastic addition, making access to the slopes even more convenient.

The facilities and services were wonderful. We especially were impressed by the teatime and availability of prosecco to make mimosas in the morning. The fact that we could still use the spa until 22:00 on the day of check-out was absolutely a game changer that we were immensely grateful for.

One of the staff members at the reception was having a very hard time With English and she was not very good at sounding friendly either. We could tell she was doing her best, but both times on the day of check-un and check-out she made our interaction quite unnecessary difficult.

The view is top-notch, and the spa is five stars! However, breakfast could be better (the cheese was cut too much, and it was dry, looking like it was from yesterday).

The room for kids is tiny; they called it the Harry Poter cupboard. The ladies in the reception could not give good instructions. We should get back 20CHF for the ski pass plastic (the lady at the ski pass counter told us so, but people in reception said we should purchase in the hotel). We should have got a discount on parking as guests, but we didn't, although we received the message about that, so we paid the full price, which was much higher. Finally, we didn't get welcome drinks - all the other guests did, and we wondered why. We didn't expect all of these discounts and greetings, but when you promised, it was disappointing.

The hotel is in a good location, a shortish, fairly flat walk from the station In Zermatt. We found the staff to be very friendly, our room was a very good size with a sofa and armchair and a balcony giving us an excellent view of the Matterhorn (once it stopped snowing - in May!). The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a good size with a great shower and nice toiletries. The breakfast buffet was very good and the hotel serves free tea and cakes in the afternoon. There are 3 different restaurants offering a fairly wide range of options for lunch or evening meal, but there are also lots of other restaurants within walking distance. There is a small but quite well equipped gym and the pool is lovely (and atmospheric) although with three whirlpool areas within the pool the actual area available for swimming lengths is not very wide. There is also an outdoor hot-tub and a spa (but we didn't try any treatments so I can't comment on that). I unfortunately fell at the top of the Gornergratt and broke my wrist very badly; the hotel staff were very helpful in immediately referring us to the appropriate medical services and arranging transport for us to get there - we got the feeling that it may be something they have to arrange not infrequently!

The resort is cute, and the newly renovated spa complex is an amazing treat at the end of a long day. The bed was comfortable, the room was nicely furnished, and the view absolutely could not be beat. From our bed we could look out and see the Matterhorn, which was an amazing way to start the day. Breakfast was a fairly standard, but generous spread of meats, cheeses, bread, eggs, and cereal, and a great way to start the day. Restaurants in the area seem to close between 2 and 6, but the hotel has snacks, teas, and cakes available in the lobby during this time to hold you over until dinner. The front-desk staff was exceptional, especially Anna. She went out of her way to make our stay the most amazing that she could, including suggesting locations for dinner and handling reservations, and bringing additional towels directly to our room herself. The customer service really made the stay exceptional.

The view of the Matterhorn from the terrace was exceptional. Very close to the train station, just a few minutes' walk. Amazing attention to detail as I emailed mentioning that it was my boyfriend's birthday to ask whether a fridge would be available to store drinks for this occasion, and without me even asking, we entered the room to find it decorated with a Happy Birthday banner, flowers, balloons. Champagne glasses also placed in the room (but I think this is standard regardless of birthday, as the mini-fridge had various drinks for sale in it anyway). Bed very comfortable and huge. The spa facilities were also wide-ranging, with sauna, steam room, cold shower and ice, rooftop jacuzzi and a larger pool to swim in. We could use the spa for several hours before check-in time and apple juice + hazelnuts + nuts were provided as healthy snacks. Breakfast was also delicious, so many options: salmon, cheeses, several meats, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, fresh vegetables and baked goods. Champagne was available at breakfast as well. For this reason, I do not understand some of the comments saying that the selection was too small... I ate so much that my stomach hurt and didn't even get to try everything! An exceptional stay that I will be sure to repeat next time I am in Zermatt.

One single negative in my view: a bit strange that the changing room in the spa area is shared male-female. I am female and did not necessarily want to have an older man getting changed in front of me (though this particular gentleman was kind and respectful)
