u need to pay extra for everything, eg coffee in the room (we had only two capsules for 7 days), they charge £10 for bathrobe to use pool and jacuzzi, couple of £ to use microwave… I understand it, but if you paying that much for a hotel it should be included

The Alpenroyal was built in the mid- 1970s and has been generously updated throughout the decades. A number of the rooms have magnificent views of the Matterhorn. To get to the hotel from the train station it is imperative to call them from the free Hotel locator phone in the station so that a shuttle can be dispatched for you. waling to the hotel is uncomfortable with your luggage and at altitude. Once at the hotel you can get to the city center through a special elevator system that transports you to a location just 4 or 5 minutes from the train station in the middle of town.

I like that its close to Murrini Viewpoint and the hotel itself serve spectacular view of matterhorn, you can even view the golden matterhorn without going to murrini

I loved the charming Alpine architecture of Hotel Alpenroyal, which perfectly blends with the stunning natural surroundings of Zermatt. The rooms were cozy, well-appointed, and offered breathtaking views of the mountains. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with any request. The location was ideal, providing easy access to local attractions and hiking trails, yet peaceful enough for a relaxing retreat. The breakfast spread was delightful, with a wide variety of fresh, delicious options to start the day.

There wasn’t much to dislike, but if I had to mention something, it would be that the Wi-Fi connection could be slightly faster in some areas of the hotel. However, this minor issue didn’t detract from the overall wonderful experience.

Fast check in, ample space at the waiting room; warm hospitality from all staff. Our room was on the first floor and had access to the terrace with impressive views of the Matterhorn. Snow cover on the terrace helped us keep our drinks chilled. At night remember to stargaze on the terrace if the sky is clear! Breakfast was lovely. If walking over from the train station, avoid the hike up Riedweg! Instead head for Sunnegga Blauherd Rothhorn Funnicular And Cable Car Station; enter and walk right in along the long tunnel and keep left to reach the elevators that will bring you up to Riedweg. Turn right and the hotel is just 2 min away. At check in; staff will give access card to the lift that will bring us down to the ground level (through neighbouring Chalet Hotel Schönegg) very convenient! Taxi service complimentary; front staff promptly arranged the complimentary ride from the hotel to the train station during our check out. Happy customer! Definitely returning here for our next ski trip in Zermatt.

We had a Matterhorn view room and it was exceptional. The hotel is located at a height so it gives an exceptional view of the Matterhorn and Zermatt town and the surrounding mountains. The hotel has a typical Swiss ambience. It has a nice bar with outdoor seating area again with amazing view of Matterhorn and mountains. They also provide a free pickup and drop from the station. If you are going to walk with heavy bags from the station to the hotel it will be quite a workout as you have to walk on an incline for half the distance. So just ask for a pickup and drop. We had an amazing time at this hotel and I highly recommend it.

Very welcoming, traditional and clean. Much better breakfast buffet than I had expected based on the photos, nice pool area pool, not hot, but definitely not cold. Either, one drawback is ski room does not have dedicated locked cabinets, but very easy to use elevator and tunnel system to get to the village since the hotel is high up on the hill would take quite the energy to walk back up. Altogether a very good experience nice choice!

No private ski lockers, no fresh juices at breakfast

A pleasant hotel, with a good location and a nice swimming pool and sauna. We had a view of Matterhorn from our room, and a spacious balcony to enjoy it. The bed was comfortable, and actually we liked everything about our room - the space and the furnishings, maybe the bathroom looked a bit older, but everything was functioning. The staff was really nice and welcoming. (Also multilingual, which is probably no surprise for Switzerland :)

The breakfast was nice, but could have had a few more options / variations from day to day.

The most impressive thing was the view from our room… I could see the Matterhorn while even laying in bed! The weather was amazing while we were there.. that Matterhorn is awe inspiring and to have such a view was incredible! I didn’t go down to the breakfast but my brother did and brought me some goodies, he liked it very much and I enjoyed what he brought me back to the room. Also my brother enjoyed the pool… I didn’t have a suit darn it. The room was very cozy and the duvets were so comfortable!

We would have liked 2 waters instead of just one. And we didn’t receive any water or coffees for our room on the second day, but we did go buy some in the bar. The coffee was so tasty with that beautiful view!

Breakfast is far better than we are expected. Swiss cheeses, a small variety of bread rolls, several fresh fruit juice to choose from, ham, fruit, boiled eggs and cereal. The hotel is situated quite up the mountain slope but with a good view of Matterhorn. Its a very steep walk from town center if you have the energy. Or take a Taxi back that charges CHF 15 for one person. We left early morning to catch the Glacier Express. They opened the dining area 15 minutes earlier so we can have something to eat. Staff are very helpful and arranged a taxi for us to train station.
