The staff were lovely. We were met by a lovely lady who really engaged with the kids and showed off all the amenities in a great way that enthused the kids about staying. The common area is really nice and inviting. When the lights are low, the little lamps make it feel very comfy which is great for late night games and reading. The kitchen is very clean and well set out. Lots of space for multiple families to cook simultaneously. Free tea, coffee and milk was really nice and the cereal choices at breakfast was brilliant.

There's not a lot not to like. It's got nice views over the marina, and it's warm and friendly. I guess the only thing I'd change might be to lower the prices a smidge. The room is perfect for a small family, but it's Spartan (as you'd expect!). I'd say it would be great value at about £110. At £130 it is approaching the cost of full hotels with 24hr staff and more amenities at this time of year. But it's not really a gripe, just me looking for a good deal. It's a lovely place to lay your head while you're exploring the northeast.

The place is absolutely beautiful and location is perfect! The room was fine for us as a family of 5 and the kids loved the bunk beds option! We were able to check in a little bit early too which was great with having 3 kids. The communal lounge kitchen area is fantastic too! Lots of appliances and fridge space and even a vending machine. Loads of little areas to sit in the lounge and board games for families having nights in!

The ONLY downside of our stay was the communal lounge had a great big flat screen TV that we were not allowed to use, this seems very unfair especially as we were the only people using the lounge area that night, was the 1st England game of the Euros so would have been good to watch on the big screen with the family! So that was disappointing.

What a fantastic time my two dogs and I had here! We were greeted by the very helpful and friendly Tony who showed us round our room and the communal areas. He was very helpful and kicked our stay off to a wonderful start. It was just a one night stop over before an event in the area the next day but it felt like a mini holiday. The hostel is the most well equipped, clean and modern hostel I've ever stayed in! Everything you could possibly need during your stay, especially the kitchen facilities - free tea, coffee and cooking essentials were so helpful. Easy, free parking right outside the front door too. It was spacious and comfortable, truly dog friendly and the rooms were immaculate. Will definitely be back again when I'm next in the area.

Great location on the harbour front with easy parking. Friendly and helpful reception staff and room was very clean. The communal room with kitchen facilities was amazing. Large comfortable leather sofas with fabulous sunset view over the harbour. Wifi was good.

I prefer to have tea making facilities in my room and although the bathroom was beautifully finished, I found the fixed very high shower head inconvenient to use. Having only a hot tap in the room was unusual and getting a glass of cold water from the communal kitchen was a bit inconvenient.

Check in was easy, we stayed in a 6bed room and were given 3keys which was very convenient. The room was clean and comfortable, with 2x showers which is very useful with this many people. The beds have individual reading lights and power stations which is very convenient. Staff was friendly and helpful, there is parking right at the door and a nice cafe next door. There is a very well equipped kitchen and a spacious lounge area.

The mattresses are hard as rock.

We were a family of 5, traditional hotels do not serve us, this hostel was like a hotel, double bed for us and bunk beds for the children. Complimentary breakfast and tea and coffee in the communal kitchen. Good wifi coverage, we watched live TV on a laptop, children were able to go on their tablets. No tea making facilities in the room for obvious reasons as it is a hostel not a hotel! On the doorstep to fish and chips, ice cream parlour and a lovely walk around the harbour area. Perfect stopping point before we travelled onto Scotland.

Nothing - would stay again!!!

Everything! We booked in for 1 night whilst cycling the coast & castles route last year and liked it so much we booked in to stay over Easter and had a great stay again. The place is immediately clean. The kitchen facilities are first rate. The communal lounge is kitted out with Barker & Stonehouse'esk furniture. The views from the lounge window overlooking the harbour and Bay aren't too shabby either. The owner is super nice and really helpful.

Excellent location with first class facilities and staff. Public areas well appointed and spotless as was our room. Thank you

Room was very hot and stuffy which was more to do with the weather. Staff said in the morning we should have asked for a fan. We hadn't thought to do this at check in and unit is unmanned later. Maybe at this time of year this could be offered at check in. Would certainly have made room temperature more comfortable.

The owner was incredibly helpful and kind - upgraded our group of four to a bigger room to give us more space and also very kindly allowed us to pick up our keys and leave our bags early as we were at an event during the standard check in hours. The rooms were very clean and well designed. The communal area was brilliant for a late night cup of tea after our evening out and there were fridges, microwaves, toasters and hobs for food storage and cooking. Very impressed by the facilities and the care taken by the staff - thank you.

Taps in the en suite bathrooms are not temperature adjustable - which isn’t a huge deal at all but would have been nice to be able to grab a glass of water or wash hands in hotter water etc. There are bottles and cups provided for you to get water from the communal kitchen and bring it back to the room, though!

The location is simply perfect, minutes away from some of the best seafood restaurants in the North, the rooms huge and modern, the communal areas including the lounge and kitchen stylish, spacious and impeccably clean. All views to die for. Parking right outside and safe and large lift to transport to different floors. But my favourite part was the gorgeous welcome my four year old daughter and I were greeted with by Tony and his staff. I felt very safe here and very spoiled. Thank you. We can't wait to return.

Having to leave :)
