The location was incredible and, despite being just above a busy pub, it was quiet. The bus stop is one block away and it’s an easy walk to all the shops. The manager was friendly and helpful, despite being very busy doing everything from checking in new guests to pulling beers and cleaning tables. They’re (like most hotels in the UK) incredibly short-staffed, but it didn’t result in poor service. Breakfast was excellent and served quickly.

We stayed on 1st floor in a family room and unfortunately there’s only one window that opens just a crack and no air-conditioning, only 2 fans. It was very warm in the room at night thanks to the pleasant August weather. It would have been nice to have windows that open all the way.

From the moment we arrived at the White Lion Hotel we were made to feel welcome. The staff were wonderful and everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. The bedroom was large and comfortable, with plenty of room for the three of us. It was clean, warm and well-appointed. The beds were comfy and the shower in the bathroom was great. Breakfast was included in our stay and was hearty and delicious. The hotel was ideally situated in the heart of Ambleside, with shops, cafes and restaurants all on the doorstep. It’s a great location and a lovely place to stay. I would particularly like to thank the staff of The White Lion for making our eight year old daughter feel so welcome. She loved her stay, as did we. We will definitely stay here again.

Due to issues with the Airbnb we originally booked we needed 2 rooms at very short notice (within 1 hour to be exact!). The staff were fantastic and sympathetic to our situation, they made the last 2 rooms up for us even though we booked at approx 2000hrs and arrived within 20mins! Greg, the manager, was extremely helpful and the cooked breakfast the next day was lovely. The rooms were large (the one I had was a family room and HUGE just for me!), clean & comfortable with fantastic beds. Staying here was a godsend for us. It was unfortunate they didn't have availability for the remainder of our week in Ambleside but we returned for meals on two occasions during our time away and both the food and hospitality was consistently great each time! I am looking at booking here for a trip next year and would thoroughly recommend anyone to stay here. The staff were simply excellent!

The location was really good and right in the centre and the walk to waterfalls was just up the road. The property was a pub, it had a big beer garden which was in full sun. Rooms were big, bed was big and comfortable and room was clean.

The only thing (which I suppose can’t be helped as it’s been really warm in the UK at the minute) the room was 100 degrees - no air con or fan. We had to keep the window open and our room backed onto a Tesco express. Tesco was unloading a delivery at 6am making loads of noise and you could hear a lot of people talking which woke us up really early. Understandably you do get that though with a central location so bear that in mind.

this is right in the centre a great location the staff were really nice, friendly and helpful for anything we needed, free parking, room was nice and clean. seen some other reviews mention no cereal at breakfast they did have that now so have taken it on board.

room was quite hot as it was nice weather but only one of the windows opened and only a tiny bit so it was quite hot and stuffy (there was a fan provided though) with it being in the pub there was some noise from an open mic night downstairs it didn’t bother us but just an FYI as I hadn’t thought about noise from the pub when booking (we had 2 little ones with us but they did sleep through it to be fair)

Fantastic location right in the centre of Ambleside. The staff are brilliant - very personable and professional. Room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Had a good night’s sleep too.

I appreciate the location is a key factor but I do think the price was expensive for a one night stay. It is great the hotel has parking for residents at the side of the building but we had to wait a while as some non residents had parked there which isn’t fair when parking can be such a challenge. Appreciate that’s not necessarily the hotel’s fault but it would be fab if that could be stopped.

The hotel was a great location, right in the centre of town and less than a mile from the pier. There is a shuttle bus that stops right outside the hotel if you don’t/can’t walk. The family room was a perfect size. I liked that there was a sofa bed rather than bunks for the children. Lovely and clean and room was made up each day (rare since Covid in most hotels!). What stands out here though are the staff - they were all so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I couldn’t speak more highly of them.

When we arrived at the White Lion Hotel, Paula and I were warmly greeted by the deputy manager ( a lovely young lady of Canadian origin with an infectious smile). She politely and professionally addressed our few enquiries. Throughout our stay we found the hotel service to be exceptional. Staff were very helpful and courteous. Attitudes throughout all departments never faltered. We both wish the deputy manager every success, with her future, with the company. Phil and Paula.

Room was really nice great place to stay close to everything , food was lovely evening and breakfast, parking was great to most staff were friendly and helpful

We were told that breakfast started at 8am so we turned up at 8.05 to be greeted by a man that was very rude by saying that he wasn’t set up yet, he was also rude to another couple who had also turned up at the same time as us , other than that we had a great stay

Friendly and helpful staff, decent location and good sized room

Not much. We were taking part in a bike race so needed to be up early. The staff gave us some food we could eat in lieu of the normal breakfast so were great in that regard but difficult to rate the regular food given we didn’t get chance to eat it. Also, a tad pricey compared to other places I’ve stayed in Ambleside but guess that may have been a reflection of the particular weekend we stayed
