It has been taken over recently by a lovely couple (both ex military) they are busy getting it up to a good standard with redecoration, they have a great chef who dishes up good home cooking (I had the mixed grill every day for the six days I stayed). They have entertainment on the weekend, this weekend was a female singer who was very good. £50 a night was very reasonable. If I’m working in Cardiff again that’s where I’m headed.
They don’t do Breakfast and your meals are separate, however I think you can book to include meals but I prefer to have the option of eating somewhere else if I fancy and not lose the money I’d paid up front for a meal. Food is good there !

I've been staying at The Bertie every fortnight for a couple of months now. The staff are amazing & I always get a warm welcome on my arrival, from Daniel, Maria & Jeff & nothing is too much trouble. Accommodation is great, tje rooms are lovely & clean, en suite bathrooms, comfortable beds, tea & coffee facilities & a TV. Bar staff are great, Daniel is lovely, he always has a great big smile & goes above & beyond for both local customers visiting The Bertie & visitors staying at The Bertie. Food is amazing, plenty of it & good value for money. Atmosphere is great, entertainment on Fridays is brilliant & the locals & visitors all have a great time together dancing the night away. It's so nice to have everything under one roof. I would highly recommend The Bertie & look forward to my next stay in a couple of weeks time.

I had a wonderful stay and meeting the owner and staff. The Bertie has changed hands and Maria and Jeff are working tirelessly to improve this property that had been neglected by prior ownership. They seem to know what they are doing and have a driven vision. The cost of the room was very affordable. and we were there the day they reopened for food and I was pleasantly suprised. You can see the hard work that the staff is putting into this property and can imagine that as time passes they will continue to bring this property to its full potential. We felt safe and secure, and I must thank them for their hospitality in welcoming an American from Arizona with open arms and making me feel at home.
I would recomend fans in the room.

When we arrived the locals were in the pub singing Kareoke. It was so much fun. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. It was just a great vibe. The room was OK, great value for money and clean enough. Just a really lovely place because of the people.
Everything was wonky in the room, it needed new carpets and curtains. The shower was mouldy and we woke up to an odd smell in the corridor on Saturday morning which reminded me of urine. We think one of the pub goers might have urinated on the carpet or the toilets leaked. But it didn't affect our mood or feelings about the friendly staff and locals. We still had a lovely stay.

the bertie is room only but the kitchen opens at 12 till 4 then 5 till 8.00.the chef is a lovely chap and the food comes out perfect ! its family run by tracey the manager and her daughters jessica and hannah, also kerry the barmaid. what makes it so nice is that you feel like you,re staying at a good mates home .tracey is undergoing a spruce up of the rooms atm but to be honest the linen and room overall was clean ,bed was well comfy, what really made it for me was the warm welcome and hospitality we recieved .we have booked again for october and cant wait !!!
going home , could of stayed longer commitments made us go home but going back in october and really looking forward to it !!!

A beautiful hotel, very located in the nature. Good room, very clean. However, a table is missing. The mini table is provided with a kettle, coffee and tea. What was very very unpleasant: I arrived in the evening and was sure I would get something to eat. Now I was 10 hours on the road without something to eat and at the reception I was told that I have not reserved and therefore get nothing to eat. Yes, in retrospect I saw that I was informed by eMail in a side sentence that I have to reserve. Since I was already a few days on the motorcycle, I unfortunately read this message too late. I think you should think about whether you can not find a place somewhere for house guests who pay for their room to give them food. I did not like this at all, so the rating drops.

The hotel and staff were great, very helpful. Food was very good. Price of hotel was very good value.
Getting a taxi in the morning was impossible due to school runs, though staff offered to help. No staff seemingly available till pub morning opening time. No breakfast for guests, though the Welsh Coal Mining Experience cafe 200 yards up the road was excellent for this purpose.

absolutely live staying at The Bertie, everyone makes you feel at ho.e from the time you arrive. Daniel, Shalay, Maria, Jeff & Tim are amazing & bend over backwards & go above & beyond for their guests. Friday nights are brilliant, with live bands playing & locals & guests dance the night away together. Absolutely highly recommend The Bertie to anyone

Staff absolutely lovely, perfect location, made to feel so welcome. Food was good (lunch and dinner) deals on through the week, brilliantly priced.
There isn't anything we didn't like, the rooms do need updating (they are in the process of doing this) but anything we needed they accommodated the both of us with what we needed, all you have to do is ask, the owners as so lovely, so let them know if you don't like anything because they won't know if you don't talk to them.

We had a very pleasant stay. The room was comfortable. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The food (bar meals etc) was lovely. The location was very convenient for the Wales National Eisteddfod in Pontypridd - with train station nearby and bus stop opposite. Excellent value for money. Diolch yn fawr - thank you.
