Great location right next to the sea front and a short walk to town. Perfect for early morning and late nights from the channel tunnel which is why we used it. The family room was huge and very comfortable, it was a hot night in summer but a fan was provided without asking! It is an old fashioned building but the room was bright and clean. Being next to the bar didn't bother us even on a Saturday night especially with the TV on you wouldn't even know!

Parking is tricky especially if you're leaving early or arriving late but it is possible to get lucky with a space outside the hotel.

Check in was smooth, staff were very friendly, helped with the key that didn't work in the outside lock and changed it for me, very spacious room, fairly comfortable beds, warm and cosy feel to the hotel, decor is a little dated, but the whole hotel is a very old building to start with, free WiFi throughout and 10% off food and drink in house. And the location is perfect. Right on the beach front and close enough for staying at if using the Eurotunnel like we did.

Can be noisy in the evenings with the live band, but they do tell you when it stops. Bar and restaurant can get busy some evenings. Some of the mattresses are quite hard.

Close enough to Le Shuttle to be really convenient. Parking might have been difficult so we booked one of the spaces directly outside, also under their CCTV. £6 well spent, I think. The bar was fine, and 10% off for residents was an unexpected bonus. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment, but that's because they were fully booked for Sunday lunch on father's day - probably another positive.

The room was a bit small, but we were only there to sleep and the price was pretty good so it was perfectly adequate. There was quite a bit of noise outside late at night (Sunday) but that's not something they can control.

Excellent value for money in a great location overlooking the sea, town centre just 5 min scenic walk along cliff-top. Although the building is a little tired, the room itself is recently redecorated to good standard, good size, very bright and airy, clean. Strong wifi and many sockets, small desk, good TV. Standard tea + coffee facilities. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Hotel residents get discount on meals, the bar has a large beer garden. Secure car park 100m (paid; no access overnight).

No air conditioning could be an issue on a hot day with full sun on window, and no fridge - but this is a budget price. Some limited noise from bar garden and street. Not wheelchair accessible.

I put No for romantic place to stay because it's a silly question! Room was very comfortable, with good shower that worked and on the ground floor just right for an old boy like me. Location next to the Leas good though perhaps a bit further from the town centre than I would have liked in an ideal world. Hotel didn't provide breakfast but served good VFM dinners. Plus good well-stocked bar

The TV seemed to have a mind of its own!

As I have a mobility scooter we were relocated to a ground floor room. This, for obvious reasons, was not the executive room for which I had paid. Also, we did not get the continental breakfast for which I had paid, at £6 per person per night. So, I reckon we are due a partial refund. I have to say, however, that John was superb and a credit to the hotel. He helped me get my scooter in and out of the hotel, as all entrances had steps.

Restaurant was closed.

We had 2 rooms, the family room was great - comfy beds, spacious, table to eat at, and a separate bathroom! The double room was also very nice, with its own ensuite and window with a view! Both rooms were also equipped with a TV, kettle, water and coffee sachets/tea bags! We were also able to order food and have it delivered to the room - all in all a great stay!

Travelling in a group of 3 adults, it would have been better to simply book the family room, instead of a family room + double room - but Booking.com didnt give us that option (and the listing did not indicate that it was a family room - it was a double room standard + double room budget)! The hotel in itself - I have no negative comments to give.

Excellent service from the staff. The manager was very friendly and welcoming and went out of her way to help in finding a baby bath to use. This was very much appreciated. The service from the bar staff was excellent, and they made sure we were taken care of.

The curtains were very light and let in day light until past 9 pm and from 5am. This made it hard for the baby to stay asleep. Black out curtains or blinds would help.

Rooms were spacious clean and comfortable. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. A bar onsite made for good start to eveing. .parked right outside for just a few quid over night. Easy stress free. Location great for harbour beach and town 2 star Hotel so didn't have high expectations but ift certainly surpassed them.

Being an old building there were some slight issues like patches of flaky paint at top of walls but didn't effect our stay.

The Portland Hotel doesn't look like much from the outside but I had a beautiful, comfortable room right next to Leas Cliff Hall. Friendly staff too. It's an excellent spot if you are visiting for Folkestone parkrun - the start is right next to the hotel.

The shower is fiddly to operate, but is fine when you get going. The exterior decor and corridors look tired.
