location excellent, pleasant decir, big carpark

Computer self-check-in. Not good enough for a big hotel. 3 fire alarms - one in each of 3 days. There was no public address after any to say "false alarm" etc. 3rd event was at 1.20am. No word from management at all. All the rooms in our cluster discussed it then went back to bed, despite smoke smell from forest fires nearby. There should have been Management announcement. Is there even a live-in concierge? Thus is just dangerous, let alone unprofessional.

Stayed as part of our NC500 tour. Nice enough hotel. It claims to be a 4-star hotel but you are greeted with self check-in screen (also for check out); I would expect a human reception. Actually the self check-in and out worked fine and I know they are short staffed. All members of staff friendly towards us and our dog. We were not able to sit in the 'bistro' area with the dog but the bar/restaurant area was absolutely fine and service was quick and friendly. Food better than expected and good breakfast. Room perhaps looked a bit tired (as did some of the hotel and tbh if they claimed 3-star they would probably have people saying they exceeded expectations). Despite the variable reviews I thought we had a good stay and some of the reviewers were a bit 'picky'. Very convenient for the train to Mallaig from the Scotrail station at Banavie only 5 minutes walk away and it had great views across Neptunes Staircase (a flight of Caledonian Canal locks) to Ben Nevis. Parking good.

Automated check-in and out. Bed a bit small for today's expectations.

Great hotel to stay in if you are doing the Great Glen Way and starting from Fort William. It is very relaxed and very dog friendly. The room comes with a bowl and a bed for your dog in addition to a few treats to make him feel at home. The bathroom was perhaps a bit dated but everything worked as it should with plenty of hot water. Can't complain for the price paid. The owners are relaxed, informal, friendly and accommodating. Very homely. Breakfast was good and provision was made to eat breakfast in the bar for customers with a dog, a separate area for other customers. Same for evening meals which we also enjoyed. There was a nice garden area as well but we didn't use it due to the weather. The best thing about this hotel however is the location. Right on the canal tow path, on the Great Glen Way, and also close to Fort William. I would recommend this.

Location was first class - the locks at the rear of the hotel were spectacular. The bonus was the ship coming down the locks after breakfast - what a sight 😃 The bathroom in our room was fantastic and the shower was brilliant and we were able to move the shower head around to make showering easier - especially goid if you have arthritus. A bath mat would have been even better as the floor of the shower was bit slippy - good job we brought one with us 😄

The amount of stairs we had to go up and then down to reach our room. Either someone to help with the suitcase or a lift would have been better.

Our room was well equipped and comfortable, with a view (almost!) of part of Neptune's Staircase. We were able to walk along the towpath before dinner, although the time of our arrival meant there were no boats using the locks. Dinner in the evening was well-cooked and presented - and delicious; likewise breakfast was well organised (the toast racks were an unusual and welcome addition!) All staff were welcoming and friendly, and attentive to any needs we had.

We did find our bed was a little too firm, although no bed away from home is truly comfortable; however, we had brought our own pillows from home, which helped.

Great location! Just 3 miles from Fort William (£10 in a taxi to Fort William) this hotel is based at Neptunes Staircase which is a fantastic site to see! There is a train station less than 4 mins walk from the hotel that is 1 stop from Fort William (but the trains don’t run often so check times ahead) The Jacobite / Harry Potter Train runs through this small station 4 times a day so a great photo opportunity. Room 25 was a couple mins walk and 3 small sets of stairs from reception but had a dual aspect view both up and down Neptune’s Staircase which was beautiful. Bed was huge, bathroom was nice & tea tray was good.

Curtains are dated, hotel is deceptively bigger than it seems from the outside and is like a rabbits warren to get to some rooms so if any mobility issues make sure to state them but other than that a great hotel! Breakfast is only until 9:15 so too early for us unfortunately - as check out isn’t until 11 I would suggest breakfast is offered up until at least 10am. We went into Fort William for breakfast after checkout.

The hotel room with balcony was wonderful. The views are outstanding.

Only 1 thing, the duvets had unremoveable waterproof covers on them but we only noticed late on 1st night and we were out all day the following day. I tried to see someone at reception but no one was available. I'm not sure but wondered if they were for kids beds as we booked 2 twin beds but for adults. The covers kept slipping off the duvets and the waterproof material on the duvets stuck to our skin. I sent this review when we got home in April but it doest seem to have gone through as I've been asked for my review. Overall it was amazing and we will definitely come back. It's just the duvets that we're an issue.

Amazing team of staff! Friendly, efficient, professional with outstanding customer service especially in the restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble for them. THEY LEFT A LOVELY CHOCOLATE cupcake, bottle of fizzz and HappyBirthdya banners on the bed when they knew it was a birthday celebration stay. Very kind and thoughtful.

Wish there could have been onsite facilities like a little hotel shop as hotel is in a fabulous location on Neptune's Staircase on the Caledonian Canal but it is a 15 minute drive to the nearest shop for those forgotten essentials.

The Superior room was very spacious with an excellent bathroom. The balcony gavce excellent views of Neptune's Staircase on the Caledonian Canal. The cooked breakfast was made to order and was very good.

For such a large room, a king-sized bed would have been more appropriate. A Nespresso coffee machine was provided with 4 coffee pods of different types - however, there was no information provided as what any of them were (decaffeinated etc). Some of the pillows provided were rock hard! Breakfast ends at a very early 9:15am. On our second morning, croissants ran out about 8:15 !

Fantastic room, paid for one with big bed and view balcony, so well worth it, looked over the Caledonian canal towards Ben Nevis. Ate in the Bistro Saturday night, delicous food and great service we all had 3 courses! Breakfast was also very good, choice of lots of cooked food and cold buffet, lovely that our daughter staying nearby could join us for both meals.

Only that the room was very hot, had to turn bathroom radiator right down and have door open to balcony.
