A nice place to stay and I liked the association with the railway station it gave a sense of rhythm to the stay. On top of that I don't drive so it was about as handy as it gets without sleeping on the platform! A great historic location too between the church, the riverside and the old town with castle, a choice of directions to go wandering and a peaceful spot to come back to, even with the rhythm of the trains. sitting outside I loved watching the House Martins which mobbed a passing Sparrow Hawk (reminding us that it's not always peaceful for all!), but watching Red Kites soaring over the Beer Terrace was a real treat. A friendly Inn and a lovely place.

I had to leave !

The location was perfect for us (adjacent to the rail station, yet not noisy). The decor, fixtures, etc. are all excellent, modern, tasteful. The bathroom was nice and large. Dinner and drinks were very good. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The room could have accommodated a king size bed, rather than a double bed, if the furniture was rearranged. This would have been more comfortable and not detracted from the generous size of the room. We didn't rate the service as excellent simply because the hotel was understaffed, leading to slow meal service and no toast at breakfast. The lack of staff was not their fault, they're advertising, but staff is difficult to get as the hospitality industry knows all too well.

Breakfast was excellent, very friendly chef, happy to prepare anything. Location of Hotel is perfect for exploring the town. Receptionist was happy to suggest local restaurants. The room was clean and tidy, as was the Hotel. Easy access to/ from the A1.

Probably little the Hotel can do about it, but the parking issue could be a problem. The Hotel does have 2 reserved spaces in the nearby church and there is some public parking in Station Road, free overnight but limited to 2 hours with a disc. It worked OK for us but it could possibly be problematic when busy.

Breakfast, which included a wide variety of hot meals, cereals and fruits, was delicious! I had the avocado on toast with pouched eggs :) The chef, who also made me hash browns on request, and staff, all of whom were consistently great, should be proud of their hard work and care of their guests. The food, atmosphere and location (right next to the train station which takes you to York in 30mins) were all 10/10. Would highly recommend coming in all seasons, especially Summer as the row boats weren't out when we went, though we still had a lovely time nonetheless.

There isn't an on-sight car park. Instead, we had to use a disc provided by the hotel and park down the side of the street which was only valid for 2 hours at a time so we had to keep moving the car. It is fine if you are out and about during the day with the car. If you are using the train, so long as you have a valid ticket, you can park in a station space and that's valid all day.

The staff were so lovely and friendly, made us feel very welcome and ensured we had everything we needed. The location is perfect, right next to the train station if you need to go anywhere else, not noisy at all as you’d have thought it could’ve been. The car park is just round by the church which also is so peaceful hearing the bell and birds in the morning. Very calm and relaxed area and only a few minutes walk from the centre (if that!) The breakfast was lovely, cooked from fresh and very tasty! The room was very clean and loved the decor of it and the bathroom, all facilities were available which was great!

The staff were helpful in letting us know where to park nearby. The room was gorgeous and cosy with a comfy bed and nice touches such as bottled water and a sewing kit. The location was great and easy walking distance to everything we needed. Breakfast in the morning was absolutely gorgeous and huge portions so we didn't even need lunch that day. The staff were all incredibly friendly from the moment we walked in for check in, came back before going up to bed and the lady who brought our breakfast. Would definitely stay if back in the area in future. Thank you 😊

Great location just next to the train station so easy access if you don't want to use a car. Parking provision nearby was fine. Friendly and helpful staff who had a laugh with us. Breakfast could have been better but I think there was a staff issue that was temporary so no problem. We enjoyed our stay with our friends and would certainly go again, perhaps using the train system to get there. Knaresborough is a lovely town - good pubs and restaurants and we found plenty of walking by the river and up to the castle.

Breakfast was great - good choice. Room was 'roomy' and the bed was comfortable. Given that I stayed there the over the two hottest days of the year, I was able to get air circulating, and they also provided a fan, which made life a lot more comfortable The meal I had was excellent, and there were a really good selection of beers The young staff were helpful and professional. The Inn is right next to the railway station, so you could, in theory, wake up ten minutes before your train, and still catch it. :-)

I'm only putting this here because some people might not like the station being right next door - trains are noisy and regular, but they do stop at 11:30pm. Personally, I don't have a problem with that, but some people might. Might be less of an issue if you close the windows. Also, The Mitre is an Inn, and therefore, on nice warm evenings, people sit outside to drink, and that can be a little noisy, but, again, I don't have a problem with that - some of the conversations were quite interesting. :-)

The Mitre is situated in the heart of old Knaresborough, so great location. Had evening meal - it was fish and chip night special - good value for a tasty meal. Room was modern, well appointed and spotless. Breakfast was full english well prepared and huge - didn't need to eat again until evening. I've booked to stay again next month - try it you won't be disappointed!

Nothing to add here

Excellent, John and the staff were friendly couldn’t do enough for us. Clean with great attention to detail, the bedrooms were well set out and lovely hot shower after a long day’s sightseeing was most welcome. Convenient for the station. Only downside was no long stay car parking close by. Will recommend and definitely a return visit.

No long stay car parking. Needed to keep moving the car.
