Within an hour of where I was travelling, an area I’d stayed previously. A property I’d considered in past years and it had late availability and a great rate. On site free parking, proper pub. Other highlights, Blue Moon on draught and Cheese Board as dessert - great taste of the proprietor. Accommodation was in separate building across the rear courtyard away from the high street and was very quiet.

It contacted me 9 times by email about a one night stay, booked an hour before arrival. The cooked breakfast, although part of the room rate, was a bit stingy although beautifully cooked (one of each) and the menu says it retails to non-residents or £12.

This was a wonderful little find for a lovely little holiday on the south coast. Really well located, only 15 mins from the coastline and connected to the main roads. Quiet village setting, good amount of parking. All of the staff were so friendly and attentive, we felt so well looked after. I was taking my granny on holiday for this trip, the room was spacious and clean, with a massive bathroom. The food at the hotel was great, we stayed for breakfast and dinners because of the variety and quality available. I'm a coeliac and didn't feel stressed once about eating here, all meals were adapted and I felt very well catered for. Overall we loved it, and will definitely be returning as soon as possible!!

The room was up 2 flights of stairs, thankfully we both managed this but would have been good to be given the option of a lower level room. Sky TV does not work at all in the room but we brought an iPad with us and the internet connection was fast.

Wonderfully relaxing with friendly yet professional staff. Comfortable rooms with all we needed including tea and coffee making, tv, comfy beds, spacious bathroom. The bar area was a great place to socialise and food in the restaurant was not expensive, and plenty of choice. Sticky toffee pudding tasted great! The breakfast was faultless. Good choice available and a light, airy space with friendly, prompt service made for a very inviting atmosphere.

Nothing, it was all above expectations- the price was very competitive and value for money was excellent

We were three friends and the room had three single beds in it. Despite it being a period property the bathroom was modern and clean. The bar area was good and had quite a buzzy atmosphere, really good bar and large spacious restaurant area. I thought it was extremely good value for the three of us.

One of the meals was not very good. Two of us ordered the same thing (sea bream in Thai broth) and they looked like completely different meals! Mine was lovely with rice and veg and a little broth while the other person's had hardly any rice or veg and was swimming in the broth which was like drinking soy sauce! Not sure how anyone could let that dish out the kitchen! We were too hungry to complain (end of two day cycling holiday).

Staff was great upon check in - the room wasn't quite ready so they gave me a Diet Coke to sip at the bar while waiting, which was very considerate after a long workday! It only took a few minutes to get into the room. Everything was very clean and cosy, very comfortable bed, and lots of lighting options for reading and such. I was only there for one night so didn't turn on the TV but I believe they had Sky (always a bonus). Also, good biscuit selection with the tea in the room. Breakfast room was lovely, I had toast and tea but they were offering cooked breakfast as well. Very friendly service.

My only small complaint is that one of the guests adjacent to my room was up early and stomping around. Due to the property being older (as will mostly be the case in the UK), the floors are a bit squeaky and that woke me up earlier than I would have liked. Overall, I still preferred the Castle Inn experience to a more modern, sterile, super quiet hotel room.

This is a pub with rooms rather than a purpose built hotel (obviously!). One benefit of this was the lovely staff (especially Lois and Chloe), really helpful and cheerful. Breakfast was good, and there was great flexibility about what you could have. The bed was very comfortable, the room was warm and clean. Very happy stay. Thank you! There always seemed a real willingness to accommodate the guests needs (guests including two huskies to breakfast on the last day!)

We were attending a party at the hotel, so it was just common sense to say there, and it did not disappoint. The room was just right for what we needed. It was away from the main building, and the road, so very quiet. The room came with breakfast, which was a short walk away, and the choices were excellent, including a full English, Eggs Benedict, amongst several other options. I had the Eggs Benedict, which was very good, and very much needed after the party. I saw a few of the other options too, and they all looked good. I would highly recommend this place and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Dinner was amazing (pork belly), the waiter in the evening was very attentive & friendly, we had a drink in the evening sun in the garden, the beds were very comfy

The lack of flexibility in the breakfast menu- only fried or poached eggs for the full English although scrambled eggs were on the menu they couldn’t be ordered with the English. Small portions, no fruit, not really much choice for a continental breakfast especially as one of the group doesn’t eat bread. Waitress at breakfast was rather rude and made a lovely stay quite a bit more agerage.

Room layout was good with wardrobes, bedside tables with drawers, two chairs and a desk/table plus Sky TV, ironing board and iron, kettle & tea tray. Good sized bathroom with a decent bath as well as separate shower. Lots of guest information provided. Staff accommodating. Breakfast (included) had a good selection.

The sprung bed was a bit uncomfortable. Curtains do not block morning light particularly well. Hot water takes time to get to this room (you are informed of that). The floors are a bit wonky and noise really carries but to be expected in an old building.

Location was lovely. Room really good. Pretty, well equipped and comfortable. Dining room and breakfast very good.

Decor in some areas of the hotel was tired. It was a shame that when I arrived at only 7.30pm the hotel was all closed up and it was just luck that a member of staff was there to book me in. I was asked my time of arrival when I booked and wasn’t told that after a certain time I would have to ring the owners despite receiving lots of E Mails.
