The staff was very friendly and there were some very nice common rooms where you could sit and visit or have a drink or have some dinner. We liked the historical nature of the pub hotel. The other thing we really enjoyed was taking a bus to Llangollen and renting some e bikes. We rode them back to Chirk along the canal paths and then rode them back to Llangollen the next day. The Hand had a room where we stored the bikes overnight. We also enjoyed that there are several little restaurants and a butcher shop very close by, where we could buy some nice things.

The room was rather small, but we booked there for the historic flavor, so we really can't complain.

Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was good, both breakfast and dinner. It was a long two blocks walk from the train station - very doable without having to call a taxi unless you're hauling a lot of luggage. They have a nice garden out back if you'd like to sit outside and enjoy a drink or two. Only a block or so away from a grocery store and a bakery, along with other misc businesses. They helped us arrange a taxi to the Chirk Marina to depart on our narrowboat adventure.

I was pleasantly surprised, some of the reviews did make me question booking. it’s a really good location, the staff were really friendly and helpful. it is an old building, it’s like a maze bit it’s lovely! Dog friendly which was good for us, you can’t go in the main restaurant for breakfast with the dog bit they seated us on the cafe area and we were the only ones there which was good for us! the room was lovely, family room with a double and two singles, nicely decorated and modern bathroom.

the shower took a while to get get to a good temperature, bit it’s only a case of waiting for a few minutes, nothing major.

Great location, friendly staff and good food (but see below)

Some mould in (ancient) bathroom shower; could be cleaner. Paid £10 for fixed price breakfast but a bit disappointed at lack of choice particularly non-cooked (continental) breakfast. Toast was one of the 'main' food choices and told couldn't be added to a cooked breakfast as only one choice was possible. Very unusual not to have toast regardless! However evening dinner was excellent for quality and price.

Everyone was really friendly, helpful and accommodating to our needs. The food was really good. There was a problem with the shower, but was sorted out promptly.

Shower base, silicone and some of tile grouting needs attention. View from window, the bins, but didn't cause any problem, the window was frosted and there was also a blind. Also the staff had made sure we had a room with walk-in shower even after altering our booking.

Staff were very helpful, lovely breakfast and had our own table which was nice, despite being by the road it was very quiet, only just over an hour from Liverpool which was perfect for Eurovision, nice to see a bar in the hotel too. Given it's age it's in great shape. Shop across the road incase you need anything. Extra key was given to let ourselves in incase we were late back which was nice.

Wasn't made aware there was an area for pool and darts which would have been nice to do in the evening. No lifts for disabled people (putting that down to restrictions on what can be done on a protected building). Carpet didn't look or feel the best but used slippers. Phone charged fine but i think i heard some noise from the socket.

Helpful staff - let me move room to a darker room with thicker curtains to reduce the early morning light (stay was mid-June). Spacious, clean and tidy room, comfortable (huge) bed, good shower. Free, on-site parking.

Breakfast only available after 8 - too late for those of us working.. No alternative offered (Spar shop just up .the road though). Rsdiator and window had broken parts - some basic repairs needed - no significamt impact on my stay though.

Lovely building in a great location. Staff are friendly and helpful. Room was extremely comfortable and clean. Breakfast cheaper than average, I think, and very well cooked but portion size was on the small side - would say similar about the evening meal. Bar prices very reasonable.

Small meal portions although probably reflecting the very reasonable prices. Plastic plant displays detracted from the generally otherwise cozy atmosphere.

The most important takeaway from my stay is that Paul the owner rescued me from spending the night outdoors in Welsh Frankton 8 miles away with my puncture ridden bike. When he showed up in his truck outside St Andrew’s Church as darkness was falling the worst moment of my 11 day cycling tour of North Wales turned into sunshine. Not only did he save the end of my Montgomery Canal towpath day but he had my bikes puncture fixed at his tire shop in Chirk next morning so I could enjoy my final day of cycling on the Llangollen Canal towpath. They even stowed my heaviest pack so I could quickly cycle by the hotel on my final travel morning with my lighter pack and pickup the heavy pack for the last mile and catching the train to Chester.

How can I say something bad when they rescued the end of my vacation! OK there was a horribly drunk guest but he caused more problems for the hotel than me and he got drunk elsewhere. I even have a good story to tell out of my encounter!

Lovely clean hotel with an oldie worldie feel. Plenty of comfy furniture to relax around reception and bar area. Friendly staff. Bedroom at back of property was lovely and quiet, lovely decor, clean room and modern looking bathroom.

Flat pillows and no spares. Ended up using the display cushion. Shower had no pressure and was barely a trickle.
