Conveniently located to all the walking downtown historic locations. We stayed 1 night only. We wish we had 1 more day in York. Overnight parking was just a 8 minute walk. We did that after dropping our bags off by parking on the street beside the hotel. During peak hours there is no cars allowed on most of the historic streets. Be sure to find the 30+ cat statues located in the historic village.
It was great for us, however if stairs is an issue for you ask for the garden view rooms. They are main floor. Our friends stayed in one and enjoyed the nearby space for having a cigarette. Outdoor space heaters and large umbrellas cover the space. We had dinner and it was fabulous. My perfect meal consisted of a Yorkshire pudding with gravy and the sticky toffee pudding. It was fantastic! Red wine was the perfect pairing.

This is a very old building and it has a lot of character. The room was large and maybe a little quirky, but in a good way. There was an extra single bed in the room. The closet was large and the bathroom was nice. The room overlooked the beer garden outside which was pretty noisy early in the afternoon and evening, but quiet late at night. The pub downstairs was excellent and well worth a visit. The breakfast (extra) was great too and made to order. Probably the best bed pillows of our trip too! Great location too, close to York Minster Cathedral and The Shambles.

This was a great experience . The hotel is everything we expected the staff were even better . Due to my wife breaking both feet not long after we placed the booking , small things cause a problem with movement but the staff did everything one could ask for to make our stay brilliant . The food was lovely and prices not too bad . Once again thank you very much for a great 2 days
There was little or nothing to dislike . The place is old and does not lend itself to wheel chairs but as I say the staff did anything to help in this regards so no dislikes

Beautiful building and the views of the minster are amazing. Great location to everything and the restaurant has really good food, not your typical bar menu, it was delicious. Pub was great and the staff was awesome.
The chapel directly across from the GF inn was under renovation so at night, outside our open window, we heard a constant beeping from the construction site security system or traffic barricade (we couldn’t figure it out) it sounded like an alarm clock going off.

First of all, the location is fantastic, across from the Yorkminister, and right in the middle of the old town. It was an easy walk from the train station and dozens of restaurants nearby, including the fabulous pub in the hotel itself. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a shower. No problems at all.
This is the second time we've stayed there. We love this little hotel and its history The floors are uneven and is narrow in spots, but for something this old (1600s) it's amazing.

What is there not to like! Amazing location! Stunning views! So much to see and experience in walking distance. Beautiful rooms that are uniquely steeped in history and legends. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the room was even more gorgeous in person. Oh! And, remember, remember.. to book your table for a dinner that will never be forgot!
It can be a bit pricey. However, with the great staff and experience of it all, it is well worth it

Wonderful historic guest house in a fabulous location right opposite York Minster. Staying here is like going back in time! The rooms are clean and the decor and furniture straight out of the 1700s!! The food is exceptional with a lovely cozy atmosphere in the restaurant. They say the hotel is haunted, well I swore I heard footsteps in my room in the early hours! Spooky and highly recommended.
Because the building is so old, the stairs to the rooms are a little rickety and uneven, so not ideal for the very elderly or infirm.

We stayed for three nights. The Belfry Suite is an exceptional and quirky set of rooms. Seeing fresh fragrant flowers in the lounge area was a surprising gesture!!! The decor throughout the Guy Fawkes Hotel is very much in keeping with its character. The bar and dining areas are atmospheric, with a good selection of beers, wines and menus. We ate there on our first night, the food, drinks and atmosphere were excellent. The staff are very welcoming, approachable, attentive and friendly. All in all... an amazing place to spend time, relax, and experience a unique break away.
Just minor niggles in the suite. It's very dark and could benefit with a little more atmospheric lighting especially around the stairs. There are only two tiny waste bins for four rooms and the complimentary toiletries were poor.

We had the suite on the thirds floor and it was so beautifully done! The weekend was a special surprise, I was thrilled by the fact I was staying in the house Guys Fawkes was born. Still reeling from the first surprise, the beautiful bedroom, fabulous dressing room, the brass roll top bath, and leather couch lounge was too much…. I was like a child at Christmas! The view of the minster was incredible, virtually neighbourhoods
