Thank God this place was available! I made a very long journey from Saint-Petersburg to York via London and Manchester to see Gary Oldman on stage and I thought that alongside with that event I should choose better accommodation. Firstly I stayed in hostel but it was quite far away from the Royal York Theatre so I immediately changed my plans and it was two highly comfortable days and nights for a very nice price. Everything was clean, smelled good and looked cute. THE Bed is Heaven!! Location was also absolutely perfect, I saw my house from York Minster! I came back like 5-6 times during the day to leave gifts I bought and went for a walk at late evenings around the town without any problem. Enjoyed a lot, I would absolutely stay there again. (the kettle was extremely fast, like 10 seconds and your boiled water is ready to be part of Yorkshire tea, omg, what a speed!)

I really needed salt for my spagetti :D there was only sugar but it`s not a big problem :)

This lovely flat is right in the centre of York, in the heart of the picturesque shops , pubs and restaurants of the Stonegate area. The flat was spacious, clean, comfortable and beautifully appointed. Milk, tea, coffee were provided along with a voucher for a bottle of wine to have with a meal at the tapas bar next door, which was absolutely delicious! The only slight hitch is that there is no driving within the centre of York between 10.30 and 5pm. We did not see this on the property information, and didn’t realise we wouldn’t be able to drop off our suitcases before parking. We had to park outside the area, then take all our cases and bags for a 10 minute walk.. luckily, a glass of something refreshing wasn’t far away!!

My daughter and I spent one night here and it was absolutely perfect. We had a twin room with a large wet room. Plenty of hangers and space for cases and clothes. Nice touches of extra pillows/towels/bottles of water/biscuits and crisps. There was a kitchen area available to make tea/coffee/hot chocolate with a fridge with fresh milk (not a UHT Sachet!) , and there were also fresh diary alternatives available. I did read previous review, and someone said there was graffiti up the stairs- nope, this was artwork - very cool and colourful. Location was excellent literally 2 mins from shambles and about 15 from train station. I would definitely recommend for a return trip.

There is no lift so if you have mobility issues you would struggle.

This is an apartment in the middle of old town York and the location couldn't be better. The staff were based out of the restaurant/pub next door and were so helpful and friendly. It's an older building with character with bedroom, living room, and kitchen. Small bath arrangement but functional. It was quiet for such a central location. A very fun and funky place to stay.

Its an old building with lots of character like old wood floors and small bath sinks up a flight of stairs between restaurants, but this is part of what made it a fun place to stay.

The hotel was absolutely lovely – brilliant value for money and right in the centre. The room was surprisingly spacious with a big bathroom and a cracking little view over Harkers and The Ivy. I loved the double curtains, especially the blackout ones. The blonde lady on reception was wonderful, really friendly and helpful, and we even got a free bottle of wine at the sister restaurant next door as guests, which was a lovely touch. Definitely recommend

Honestly, the only slight downside was the lack of a lift – the stairs can be a bit of a trek, especially with luggage. But that’s me being picky. They also explained the lack of lift was because it was a listed building so no fault of theirs.

We booked 3 double rooms and the morning of our arrival we were upgraded to 3 apartments. This was a bonus and made our visit to The Fort even better, the apartments were fantastic and had everything you'd need to live there long term, including a washing machine and fully functional kitchenette. Perfect central location, very close to the minster and the shambles, not too far from the train station and surrounded pubs and restaurants, perfect for tourists and business trips alike. Do not be put off by the reviews saying the hotel is loud, its normal hotel noise levels

The rooms were perfect and as advertised and we had no issue with them. The only issues we found were with the building itself, the walls were quite thin so you could hear people going up and down the stairs. The stairs were quite steep and not accessible to anyone with mobility issues but this is clearly advertised upon booking. Overall there wasn't anything wrong with out stay that is easily fixable so I cannot fault The Fort.

Location was perfect. Room was clean and comfortable. Amazing power shower and large comfortable bed. Lovely complimentary treats and water in room which were well received. I also had a partial Minster view which I liked and the room was very private. Nice big TV on the wall. Would definitely stay again.

Would have liked a full length mirror in the room and maybe a kettle although there is a lovely well stocked shared kitchen area with milk, tea and coffee, microwave but not ideal to go to early in morning to make a hot drink when still in pyjamas. Can be quite noisy due at night due to location (music) but ear plugs are provided.

Perfect apartment right in the city. Great for exploring York and having a handy base. The host was really pleasant and helpful (and told us about a good car park). The apartment was absolutely spotless, neat and tidy with modern furnishings, and the fully equipped kitchen had everything we needed - even a pint of milk! With the living/dining room as well as the bedroom, there was plenty of space if we wanted it.

Only a few minor things - overall the place was ideal. The automatic light in the apartment hall only triggered immediately after a small step (when going from the bedroom end of the hall), so it was easy to trip in the dark. The TVs weren't receiving any channels (although were listing the programmes that were on) and couldn't be paired to an android phone, just an Apple one. Would have been good to have a teatowel in the kitchen, and a rollerblind on the kitchen window - both for privacy and to adjust the light coming in. There's no car access to that part of the city, so had to carry luggage about 10mins from car park spot - but that's the nature of York and this was a great location.

Wow what a gorgeous hotel! We had booked a regular double room but got a free upgrade to an apartment. It was decorated so nicely and had everything in it you would need (minus a tea towel for drying dishes). Perfect city centre location at a great price. Karen was lovely and helpful and gave great recommendations on parking and places to visit. We would definitely stay again. The bed was also lovely and comfortable

Absolutely beautiful spacious apartment right in the centre of York, two seconds away from the minster and 5 mins brisk walk into the shambles. Absolutely perfect location, beautifully decorated inside, spacious and quirky and airy. I literally cannot wait to come back. Beds were amazingly comfy. All towels/kitchenware/soaps provided. Spotlessly clean too! Thank you endlessly for making our first visit to York so memorable. We will be back for sure!!!

Didn't understand at first why they left us earplugs on our bedside tables.. Until we realised. The only downside to the brilliant location being in the centre of York is the inevitable nightlife buzz. It was very loud. Especially the downstairs pub getting beer keg deliveries before 6am.. That was LOUD. If you stay here definitely get early nights to ensure you can get enough sleep for the next day. This is NOT the apartments fault and don't let this sway you from staying here - just be aware the plugs are provided for a reason!
