The Fat Badger has a great location! It's steps away from access to the city wall and a 5 minute walk to the York Minster. It was fun observing the street below my window. The bathroom was recently renovated & it's great having a kettle in the room. Some creaking floor boards added to the charm!
My room was on the 1st floor & the steps are narrow to reach it. Be aware that you will have to lug your things up them as there is no lift. The room has black walls & even black lampshades which gives it a gothic feel. Thankfully, the sun was shining out the window. There was some confusion about credit card payment when I checked out as the wait staff handles the rooms.

I thought the hotel was charming with a lot of character, the staff was friendly throughout my stay. When I came to check in they said my room wasn’t ready but they took my suitcase up to my room and with 5 minutes they came to the beer garden to give my key. The room was great I was on the 1st floor which was perfect for me. I stayed for two and had breakfast, it was additional £12 for each day but totally worth it. You can have something to start with and then have a cooked breakfast for afterwards, aswell as toast, cups of tea and juice all in the price. The hotel was in walking distance for things I wanted to see which was good for me.

Location was perfect. We didn't have breakfast
Sunday dinner. We arrived after 5.30pm Sunday after a long drive. The roast dinner was poor. Advertised as roast pork with crackling, the crackling had been cut off. The yorkshire puddings were hard and black, the parsnip also hard. We were so hungry we made the best of it, my husband ate all his and we didn't complain at the time. We had pre booked dinner, but maybe they should stop serving it after a certain time to avoid what seemed to be food that had been hanging around all day getting hard an burnt, from being served. Disappointing.

Fantastic location and superb team! The welcome, beer garden, character, breakfast and wonderful, friendly team made this a fabulous hotel in York. Our room looked directly out on to an ancient Roman fort. Complimentary water and tissues in the room, together with the usual tea, coffee & biscuits were provided. FB also provided a complimentary bar of soap in the bathroom as well as the usual shampoo and shower wash, all this was not provided in their sister hotel ‘The Guy Fawkes Inn’. I would select the Fat Badger over Guy Fawkes, next time without question. The wonderful Beer garden at the rear of the hotel is buzzing and busy, frequented also by locals, situated next to the York Walls and with a fabulous atmosphere. Lovely hotel and team. Highly recommend.
We were at the very top of the building on a very hot day and we could not open the windows more than an inch, hence even with the fan going it was an extremely warm room

Absolutely everything, location, character, staff, cleanliness. Everything was brilliant and I would definitely tell people it is worth the money to stay here. We came for our first wedding anniversary and did several things (minster, ghost tour, shambles, jorvik centre) and it was extremely easy to get to everything. Parking was just around the corner at marygate long stay carpark which was a 5 minute walk. Couldn't fault any of it.
We couldn't find anything to write here. We genuinely couldn't think of any negatives for The Fat Badger. Wasn't noisy even though we had a room just above the front door we managed perfectly fine even with the window open.

The location was excellent right under the Bootham Bar and attached pub was great. Back "secret" garden was beautiful and the staff was very helpful, -especially when I've had a few pints and couldn't find the stairs to my room... The food and service was wonderful and the room was spacious and the bed heavenly. The room also had a hair blower and iron/board that came in very useful.
Not unexpected because it is attached to a pub, but the keg rolling right under my room at the wee hours of the morning managed to wake me up both mornings I stayed. The price I paid for the room did not include breakfast, but it can be added on and was delicious. Also, the downside of the place being so good was that I could never find a seat in the garden and only in the pub late into the evening.

The property has a fab location in the heart of York's historic centre. Although the bathroom was small, the shower was amazing and the shower gel, shampoo etc were really nice. The kettle and biscuits were also welcome. The staff all went the extra mile to be friendly and helpful.
The human sized figure with a man's body and a badger head lurking at the bottom of the stairs-probably a matter of taste but I wasn't keen. The bed was slightly draughty as next to an old fashioned window, but the duvet and throw were enough to keep me warm once I snuggled in.

The location is great, just around the corner from the York Minster. Breakfast at the hotel is very good. We also ate dinner at the hotel one of the nights, and the food was very good. Above all I have to mention the staff, they were all so friendly and helpful. Especially the lady who was in charge of the breakfast service when we visited.
The only negative things I can say about this place are "nitpicks", as overall I really enjoyed our stay. The door handles are rather low down, at about thigh height on me. It would also have been neat if the room had a desk, or some more "table space", but that really wasn't a big issue at all.

As our allocated room was not available Bella rectified the situation offering an alternative room with breakfast or to move us to the sister hotel at Guy Fawkes. We chose Room 2 with a view and Bella ensued she would make our stay pleasant knowing that we had just experienced an horrendous stay. Bella enthused us with her recommendation of a super Indian Restaurant close by for dinner. Bella deftly served a sumptuous breakfast to us the following morning including oat milk, fresh fruit and granola. What a super member of staff making our stay comfortable and must enjoyable - we shall be returning to stay later in the year.
Upon arrival checked in allocated Room 9, how ever entering the room discovered another resident had left belongings not pleasant, however Bella apologised.

Good central location. Very nice breakfast. Friendly staff. Quirky building.
Bed was too soft and too high, being short in height it was very difficult to get into. Lots of stairs up to some bedrooms so would not recommend for anyone with walking difficulties. Being a very old building soundproofing was none existent and was very noisy if your room faced the street, noise from street late at night and bins being emptied anytime from 5am did not make for a good nights sleep.
