A fantastic location, close to the city and nearby attractions without the hassle and bustle of a city location. The island location gives views of the marina and bay on all sides which was a feast for the eyes in the day and a light show in the evening. Our room was light and spacious and kept immaculately clean by the housekeeping team.

The hotel is popular with locals at the weekend due to its bar and restaurant but seemed quieter during the week days. The kitchenette was equipped with a microwave, hob and fridge freezer but was limited to cups, glasses and a small amount of cutlery. There was no crockery or cooking equipment for the kitchen to be used to its full potential.

Room was large and comfortable and the beds were good. We were "upgraded" to a room with a patio though it was on the first floor and only had a meager view of the planted wall. The pool and jacuzzi were quite nice (though crowded) and the pool patio had a fireplace, which made for a cozy ambience. Location was good and it was quiet at night. Also, the staff was helpful and pleasant.

An additional charge of $25 per day for parking was a bit of a surprise, though public parking was available nearby. Rooms are a bit dated in furnishings. Pools were pretty crowded and small for such a large property.

This is a beautiful hotel, amazing location in San Diego so I’m so happy this is where we stayed for 2 weeks. The bed was so comfortable and we had a lovely view of the marina which was nice to look over at from the balcony. We also enjoyed the 2 pools and 2 hot tubs and the tropical feel of the area was perfect. I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel having bikes to hire so we enjoyed those and went to the local cafes.

There was a slightly bad rotten eggs smell from the sink when you ran the tap for the first few seconds and the cleaners ignored mess in the room sometimes e.g didn’t clean the balcony table which became dirty. I’d say be sure to put all used towels in a clear pile or they won’t be replaced with clean ones.

I love the location and being by the marina. There are many creatures and birds around which makes for fun walks. The pool and hot tub are amazing. The restaurant had a good breakfast and the bar had good drinks. Every staff member I talked with was kind and helpful.

I don’t like that coffee pots were removed from the room. The line at the coffee area in the lobby would get long and they only serve coffee until 10 a.m. We also drink coffee in the afternoons and it would be nice to have a hot water option for soup or tea in the rooms. I also don’t like that the tap water and shower drain have a strong musty smell.

We love the location of this place. Shelter Island is a relaxing oasis in the busiest of San Diego. We’ve stayed twice at Island Palms and would not hesitate to go back. The room we had this time was a corner king room with a view of the bay. Very comfortable bed, large TV and nice outdoor sitting space. We also ate breakfast twice at the restaurant on site and both times found it enjoyable.

The bathroom had a sliding door on it that was difficult to open and close because of an issue with the track. We did inform the front desk upon checking out and they said they would have someone look at it.

The rooms were very clean, through out my week vacation with my younger siblings we manage to get our rooms cleaned daily. The housekeepers who refreshed our room every day through the week did an amazing job! Having two teenagers who loved the coming back to our rooms cleaned, fresh towels, and well made beds after a long day of adventuring San Diego was great! They exceeded our expectations! ALSO LOVE LOVE LOVE how the hotel provided floaties, beach ball and other stuff for everyone to use at the pool!!! My teenagers took advantage of the pool closing at 11pm!! I couldn't get them out the water every night we've been here. Love the views! Love the hotel's hospitality!

I didn't like the PARKING FEES!!!! With free parking just on the other side of the road, literally 100 yards away, I didn't expect to pay such a high amount just to park for a couple hours at night.

This resort is wonderful, and it is so conveniently located in san diego. I love that it's a little hidden gem called Shelter Island. The staff is very prompt with any concerns. Also it's very convenient when having a family that there is a full kitchen in the room. Couldn't ask for a better resort.

We love using the pool and spa facilities my children love to swim. While we were there during the weekend, the pools heater was not on. I would have enjoyed using their pool, but it was a little too cold for my taste. II should have brought it to the front desk as a concern during our stay. On the Monday that we checked out the my children said the pool was hotter but I was busy packing. When I went to check out I asked the clerk if there was a heater to the pool he said yes it was set to 75° or 80°. He told me he would check on why it was cold during our stay. I just hope it works for our next stay.

Love location—walk to restaurants, our patio faced the marina, which we loved. Pool chairs had such fluffy, comfortable cushions—and a fireplace for slightly chilly nights (common to CA coastal towns), we spent our free time there. Room had 4 excellent, full pillows to each bed; huge TV (which we didn’t watch, but TV fans will love it), great views from patio & a walking trail all along the resort. We were surprised how terrific this part of San Diego is, Shelter Island, with food, boats, views, waking to many eateries, etc

It was beautiful and the location was perfect. The staff in the restaurant was amazing during breakfast, they were super warm and the service was excellent, but I didn’t feel the bartender was very welcoming the evening before. Being a solo traveler, it’s uncomfortable traveling alone, and awkward at times, and getting the courage to go to the lounge for a nightcap is a bit difficult, so the staff’s attitude is important. He wasn’t rude or a bad bartender, just didn’t get the warm fuzzies. Guess it was the end of his shift.

Beautiful and clean

Loved the whole vibe! Loved the pool and hot tub overlooking the marina. Loved the size of the room and bathroom. Breakfast despite not being included was still amazing and the rental bikes offered by the hotel was a nice little touch. Hotel and restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly. All in all we had a wonderful experience.

The only thing was that one morning our breakfast card was not collected but it seemed to be a one off mistake and they were very apologetic so no biggy
