The breakfast was delightful. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful.

There were no adequate directions to enter the hotel from the car park, There are no directions for car parking on arrival. There are no hotel info paper guides in the room and only a computerised system. There is no bar/fridge price list available unless you use the computer system. We never did manage to work out why the phone messaging system kept flashing. The toilet seat didn’t match the system. One bedside light switch didn’t work. The bath anti/slip footing didn’t work and the bath was very slippery under the shower.

Very grand traditional decor. The china displays in the main lounge were beautiful , the chandeliers, art work etc etc was impressive.

Furnishings including soft furnishings were well used, tired and worn. The dining chairs needed new upholstery and padding. The carpets in common areas were quite worn and faded. The room carpet was old.

The location was great at Opera House end of circular quay. The room was excellent with a large bathroom fully lined in marble. Great bed and furnishings with plenty of room to unpack and move around . We arrived early and we left our luggage to go exploring coming back after lunch to be given our keys and go up to our room. A useful note for others is to avoid the stairs up to Macquarie Street as there’s a lift next to them. Easy walk to the botanical gardens and the art gallery. Choice of trams , trains and ferries to explore Sydney and beyond.

Although we stayed for three days we didn’t have much time to see much more than the lobby and our room. We possibly had the worst view as we were only on the second floor looking over the roof of the police museum to the very active construction site of the old AMP building. Could just see through the trees to circular quay. I would like to go back and have the time to enjoy the pool ,restaurant and whisky bar.

Location at the top of Macquarie St is excellent. Very large room, comfortable and the bed was very good.

I paid over $500 per night for a top range room. The room was large, obviously, and no problem with the price, but its contents seemed miserly. For the money, I would expect a bottle of wine on arrival. There were only two breakfast tea tea-bags - come on, this is not a motel. Fresh milk would have been a bonus. Only one towel each per day, of only average quality. There was no folder of information to advise about room service, use of the phone, TV, internet. The furnishings were showing some signs of wear and tear. The plaque on the wall stated that the likes of Prince Charles, Tom Cruise and Mick Jagger stayed in the room. I wonder if their contents were as miserly.

Initially we had issues with the room we were given. But, the staff quickly rectified these and the rest of our stay was nice. Comfortable bed, nice sized room, quiet when windows are closed. Very close to Circular que. Staff , very friendly. Breakfast (purchased) on site was adequate. Remember to order your eggs how you like them. Not all options out for display.

The parking is on the small side, but we managed to fit our Prado in(5th floor down). It is an older building with older furnishings. With this comes wear and tear. They would have been opulent in their day, but their age is showing.

Location is excellent! Opera house 500m walk and botanic gardens are right across the street - so beautiful! Breakfast was great, all staff were very courteous and helpful.

Pool deck is very small and lots of steps, so wasn’t as n option for my elderly mother. I couldn’t locate the sauna. Another minor gripe I had is that when our complimentary wine was delivered to our room, it was literally just the bottle of wine… we had to drink out of the bathroom glasses as I could not get the room phone to call anyone. The pre-dial buttons need to be replaced with instructions on how to contact staff. A couple of wine glasses delivered with the bottle would have made it much more enjoyable!

This is a complicated review... Location was my first priority and this could not be better. They offered an upgrade for our anniversary and we could see the opera house and bridge from the room. The space, the architect and history made this interesting and the location was walking distance to every thing we wanted to do. Beautiful building and rooms. The staff were attentive and kind.

We know historic hotels do show age, but the upgraded suite had corners where wall paper was peeling, the window frames were rusted and the paint chipped and generally the first impression of the room was musty and old carpet. We opened windows and aired it out and the threw a robe over the older chair... for the premium pricing I would have expected very clean furniture, carpets and curtains

Have stayed at the Sir Stamford many times. Always love it. Best location, reasonable parking fees overnight in their garage, large rooms, old world charm, very clean and comfortable, large bathrooms, friendly staff. I personally also like the rooftop pool and the highlander bar. We were also upgraded and had a room with a partial harbour view over the botanical gardens and Sydney Conservatorium. From the hotel it's a very quick walk to Circular Quay ferries, trains and trams that can take you anywhere in the city, Opera House, Botanical Gardens, the Rocks and to attractions in the city centre like the OVB, Hyde Park, Chinatown, Darling Harbour.

The only thing I found that could be upgraded is the bath towels. They were quite small. Having a set of large bath sheets and then a smaller set for people with long hair would be useful.

The hotel is very old fashioned in style and may not suit everyones taste. Staff were extremely pleasant and accomodating, I was able to arrange a slightly later check out on arrival. Massive bedroom with a king size bed, a good size bathroom with walk in shower. Tea/coffee making facilities and a fridge. Location is brilliant, right on Circular Quay with a vast array of restaurants, cafes and a 7 minute walk to Sydney Opera House. Ferry terminal for Manley Beach, train station and light railway all within walking distance.

We have stayed at this hotel on three occasions now and it could do with redecoration and changing of carpets.

Sir Stamford is like stepping into the past, with a beautiful old-world charm. It's lovely and quiet and a short stroll to Circular Quay (mind the hills). The buffet breakfast has a good range of yummy foods albeit pricey $32. The bed was large and comfortable enough and the marble bathroom was also large. The staff were accommodating and happy to keep our bags for us after check-out.

The breakfast was a little expensive, $32 for buffet when the room was already not cheap. The carpets in the bedroom look like they need some TLC.
