A lovely room; a good size and well set out. Nice views over the street below and not noisy at all. At the end of a corridor so there was no through movement.

I didn't like the attitude from the staff in the restaurant. Maybe not their fault as they said they were following regulations. You couldn't buy a drink and take it back to your room. You couldn't borrow a spoon to take to your room. They wouldn't make a cocktail for a lady because it was too close to closing time. Within 10 minutes of closing. No real effort to make your stay a highlight. I refused to use the restaurant after the first 2 days, and ate and drank elsewhere for the next 3 days.

Conveniently located near Southern Cross station. Walking distance to pretty much everything you could possibly need. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The room assigned to us (for two people) was spacious.

We stayed three nights, I know that our room has no housekeeping when I booked through Booking.com. We're okay with that however, I wasn't sure if they clean the room properly before the next guests arrive. On our first night we found some rubbish behind the ottomans under the table. Also, the shower takes a good 5 - 10 minutes to get to the right temperature for showering. Otherwise, all good.

Reception was warm and inviting. Directions to my accomodation were clear and easily understood. Whilst the room was fairly basic it was all that I needed for a short stay. The bed was soft and comfy and I enjoyed each night's sleep. The bathroom was clean and modern with large tiles and clean shower recess.

There was nothing that I didn't like. I did not have time to visit the restaurant and bar areas but that can wait until my next stay. I know the building is old but it has been modernised to raise its standard. I may very well stay here again if I come to Melbourne again on my own.

The room was in a similiar position to the last visit which made it easier to find and settle in. The motel was within walking distance to places I wanted to go. All people were friendly, staff and the other patrons. All were respectful and I was feeling comfortably safe. This stay was a special cheaper rate for the retail sales in the area at the time. I had great weather and walked to Flinders Street, met up with friends and enjoyed the the beginning of work Christmas parties before the busy month of the year. It was an allround great experience.

I am struggling to find anything. There were only 2 lifts but the wait time at busy hours like check in or out timesmay have been a bit longer. This is a good time to stand and talk to other people however some people were in a little bit of a hurry to get to their destinations. The wait for a lift was not always desirable for elderly or those with a busy schedule. I however accepted this and enjoyed meeting people who were waiting, also.

Another great stay at the Great Southern Hotel. I really appreciated one of the reception staff changing my room to 435 which I had requested in the booking. The rooms was clean, comfortable and quiet with great views - an ideal place to end my stay in Melbourne. The location is excellent and even with two heavy cases, I was able to make it to and from the station and Skybus. I tried the breakfast this time which was good and the continental breakfast is very good value.

I would have stayed an extra night but there is great fluctuation in prices on the weekend which does make it more complicated in planning ahead. More than two sheets on the notepad would have been great!

I could get on the tram close by to the tennis

I did not realise until after the fact, I had a frozen meal 1 night & lucky the plastic film had to stay on because, the microwave wasn’t clean & if I had not noticed it and had no cover on my food, there could have been the potential of my food been contaminated with what ever was heated up in it last. I think a microwave is to be in rooms, maybe have a sponge in there for people to clean after using or make a bite that if the microwave is left dirty then a cleaning fee will be charged

For what we paid we were pleasantly surprised by the value. We weren’t expecting the best for what we paid but we really couldn’t have asked for much more. Great location and the staff go above and beyond. House keeping staff were lovely when you passed them in the halls or the lift. Pillows were the best I’ve ever experienced in a motel.

A little noisy as the window faces out to the road but this was expected in the city. The blinds and windows need a really good clean as there is a bit of mould due to the condensation. A cockroach ran across the bench at one point. I’m a bit forgiving of this but wonder if their pest control is up to date.

I liked the cleanliness of the room, since there was no dirt and dust, it was nice to stay and live. I was also pleased with the location that is located near the station, which does not need to go from the other side of the city, the location is just great. Also the price is very low compared to others, I think it is very worthy.

Perhaps there was a slight discomfort with thin walls, everything that happened in my neighbors, I could hear clearly, but I did not find other minuses, everything is fine

My initial room was an internal one with no outside view/access which was most distressing. The staff were empathetic and resolved the situation immediately and I was relocated to a most suitable room within my price range, that had the ambiance and comfort expected of the location and price. So I was statisfied with my room,my expectations were met and I was statisfied with my new relocated room and the staff and the ambiance and price and location and overall service after this was resolved.

The reception staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and may have a good view. The location is really excellent if you're arriving by bus, train or Skybus. I appreciated having a desk for computer work.

I had a great stay the previous time in 424, even though the sound insulation is a bit random and plumbing noises abound. I was hoping to make this my regular hotel in Melbourne but this time when I arrived with two heavy cases, I was initially put in Room 105, down at a lower level beyond lifts with a rubbish chute outside and bag of dirty linen beside the door. I did appreciate that the reception staff changed my room to 423 and I was given guidance to ask for a room in the main building next time - but how are guest meant to know this beforehand? I also find the unpredictable rates challenging - this is a good budget option but paying $170/night for one person, on my return, is no longer 'budget'.
