Rooms are very small! I was solo in a double city room but even so was very cosy! You don't want to be over 6ft either !! Very space saver design, fair play everything is there, hot showers, kettle and tea coffee in your room. There is a large lounge, bar restaurant downstairs to use.

I liked the location, being in the centre of town, a short walk to stores, restaurants and to a major bus interchange for very easy low cost travel to other areas in Christchurch. I liked that the room was quiet. I had an internal room, so no windows, but the dark quiet room made it easy to find sleep.

No major complaints. Nothing was untoward, the room was small, but it was also affordable, and was plenty comfortable for a man on his own. If you plan to just use a room for sleep it's completely acceptable, if you intend to use the room for a significant part of your time it could be less pleasant.

Everything. Right in the city centre. Close to the Bus terminal so not having to pay an exorbitant price to go by taxi to the airport. The room is small but adequate for one person. It would be a bit cramped with two. The shower was hot, the bed comfy. The breakfast was great, and the menu at night was fabulous There are laundry facilities on site . I would and am definitely staying again.

It seems to be a regular problem with most Hotels that the breakfast is stone cold. The warming trays are inadequate to say the least. I arrived at brekky recently at opening time and everything was less than lukewarm. Even the coffee. I am a small person, but anyone larger will have trouble fitting into the bathroom/shower. My room was only 10sq mts but ample for one person.

The hotel is in an excellent central location, right in the heart of the city. I arrived 3 hours before check-in as I was going to a wedding so had to leave the hotel at 1pm to make us a bus to the venue. I said I know it's too early to check in but can I please borrow an iron to iron my dress (as I had just flown in for the event) and the manager bent over backwards to find a clean room for me. I will return because of this kindness.

Nothing, it was all good. The room was small but that was to be expected as I'd said I didn't care what room I was given as I just needed to be able to iron my dress and otherwise I was only coming back at midnight to sleep (so I was grateful to be given 1 of the 2 clean rooms available in the hotel at that time).

The experience I had during my recent stay was exceptional, particularly considering the outstanding value for money. For just over $80, it included ensuite shower/bathroom, a well-appointed, comfortable bed, a modern aesthetic, and convenient amenities such as a restaurant and bar located on-site, as well as access to a gym. While the room itself was compact, it provided everything I required for a pleasant stay—especially since my time was primarily spent exploring the nearby attractions. The hotel's proximity to the town center made it easy for me to walk to various destinations. I will certainly consider returning for future visits.

Best night’s sleep! Super comfy bed and pillows + blackout curtains and quiet makes this place a knockout. Rooms are “micro” which is cute and perfect for a solo traveller. Comfort and everything you need in a small space. What I loved most: *peace and quiet *comfort & cleanliness - I’m super picky about where I stay *restaurant/bar with good food and friendly service *location: safe to walk around at night, 5 minutes walk to Riverside Market with loads of good food options, 3 mins walk to Fresh Choice supermarket and only 20 mins walk to Christchurch Hospital. *initially stayed one night, expecting my partner to be discharged from hospital. Had to book again to stay another night and was greeted by name and asked how my partner was, and upgraded to a king room which I LOVED. * This is THE place to stay for one person not spending a lot of time in the room. * light in bathroom is great for putting on makeup * tv is perfect height for viewing from bed Some reviews say the rooms are small, well it’s obvious they didn’t read the room description or view all of their options before booking. A double room means double size bed, it clearly says it’s 10 sq meters - these are for the under 30s or solo travelers wanting a cheap room that’s comfy and has a private bath. For the rest of us, book a Queen or King! It’s that simple. This will be my go-to place when my partner is in hospital in Christchurch and I recommend it to anyone staying in Christchurch.

Not a thing to complain about

Was in Christchurch for a couple of days business - needed a nice cheap place with a restaurant. Facilities are good - has a bar and restaurant, both of which were great. This hotel is ideal for business visitors in the CBD, and was pretty cost effective. Staff were good to deal with and rooms were clean and tidy.

This isn't something I didnt like, but some may find the rooms pretty small. They are quite modular, and the shower is sort of 'in the room'. Not a lot of space to move around in. One complaint is that the carpark is quite a walk from the building and not adjoining - so you will get wet if its raining getting to your car, which defeats the purpose of a carpark. Also on the 7th storey of a carpark building so you spend ages going up and down in your car. Not a major issue, but not convenient

More than I expected! The location could not be better, literally. The room was better than the photos and very well equipped, especially for the price. You don't pay much more than for a private hostel room here, but you get all the hotel amenities and services. The food downstairs was great and very reasonably priced, the room had a good bathroom, hairdryer, iron, jug, fridge, tea/coffee/milk.... And this was just the cheapo room. And it's not walking distance to city centre, it IS city centre.

Everything was great. More than I expected. I guess the only thing I could complain about if I wanted to would be the parking, but there's plenty of public parking for very reasonable cost and easy renewal online very close, so it was all easy.

My third and final visit to the BreakFree. This time I stayed longer than just one night, but three, to see Christchurch and not always use the BreakFree as a transfer hotel. As with my last visits, I had a room without a window, which doesn't really bother me. There is a washing machine and dryer on every floor if you want to do laundry. The location of the hotel is great for exploring the city on foot. That's not difficult, Christchurch isn't that big. WiFi is good everywhere in the hotel. There are supermarkets and restaurants in the area. All in all, a very good hotel for a city trip.

Cost effective and easy to get to in the central city. Within short walking distance of central city shops and cafes.

It's a fine place to stay, but there are also questionable design decisions: - A plug that is way too small for the basin plug hole - Clothes hangers that have a business shirt hanging on the coffee mugs below (too bad if you had pants or a dress!) - A ironing board provided but you have to crawl under the bed to reach it. All fine, minor stuff, but I challenge the hotel manager to try staying in one of the rooms to learn.
