I booked for both breakfast and dinner and the food was phenomenal, particularly the appetisers. The chef made a cauliflower mousse one day and a sort of sesame tofu on another day and each meal was clearly made with so much thought and care. Breakfast was much lighter than dinner so I would recommend to go for dinner to get the full experience. They also served an excellent plum liquor that you could also get from the hotel shop. The onsen was wonderful, clean and beautiful. The public onsen was surprisingly empty most of the time, so I was lucky to essentially have a private bath. The atmosphere was as relaxing as you can get. Very quiet, tatami mats and muted colours and a general sense of peaceful isolation. It was too bad that I was running around for most of the trip, the hotel is worth whiling away at least half a day.
I booked the private onsen for the first night and while it was initially nice to be soaking while surrounded by bamboo groves and cool mountain air, it got a bit discomfiting quickly. I’m not entirely certain of how private and safe the bamboo groves are. For those on the paranoid side like me, the public onsen might be better because it had a wall blocking the onsen off.

Both the private and public onsens are beautiful and the meals are spectacular both in terms of visuals and taste! The staff are some of the kindest hotel staff I've ever met and they made sure everything is absolutely perfect for me. The room I stayed in was spot-free clean, very comfortable and, as a plus-size woman, I truly appreciated the yukata size-up options I was kindly offered before I even had to ask!!! Another great point was the fact that it was just a 9minute walk away from the Choanji Buddhist Temple, which is not included much in the "must see" lists of Hakone on the internet, but it is a spectacular temple with a mini forest PACKED with statues of all shapes and kinds. The walk on the temple grounds was such an amazing experience. Would definitely love to visit Mount View Hakone again!
The location is a tiny bit away from the "Hakone Loop", but the bus stop RIGHT in front of the hotel makes it still very convenient to get to Gora or Hakone Yumoto Station in a maximum of 20-30mins. Just make sure to plan your day accordingly and add this extra time~

I did not book the private onsen but used the women's public onsen twice and had it all to myself both times. Dinner and breakfast were beautifully prepared and presented. Dining room staff were super friendly, helpful and kind. The onsen was a lovely experience, and the provided information on how to prepare / cleanse oneself prior to entering the hot springs was very helpful.
I did not realize that it was a 1-hour bus ride along very windy roads to get from the train station to the hotel, so allow for extra time to get there. I checked in at 2:40 p.m. and the front desk clerk told me I would have to wait until 3:00 p.m. before I could get the key to my room - not impressed. Fortunately a manager over-rode that shortly afterwards, when she saw me waiting in the lobby. The room info tells you that there will be charges for each hour you check out later than 10 a.m. Never faced such strict rules for arriving / departing from a hotel.

The hotel has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. They provide yukata (including large sized) that you can wear to the onsen and to dinner which adds to the relaxing atmosphere. The onsen look out on a garden with some bamboo and was very peaceful - there are onsen inside and outside. They were never crowded when I was there even though the hotel was full. You can also pay for a private onsen - the one we had was comfortable for a couple and had a beautiful view of the bamboo. The dinner was exceptional - tasty food and plenty of it! The hotel is located near bus stops that give you easy access to different sites in Hakone. The staff are very polite and helpful - they can advise you about the buses if you need. We had a western-Japanese style room that looked out to the mountains.
Everything was perfect. I hope I have the chance to stay again someday!

Amazing experience to stay in a ryokan. The room was huge. We hired the private onsen and it was beautiful, looking out onto bamboo trees. The dinner in the hotel was huge and a great experience to try foods we wouldn’t have otherwise chosen. Also staff were nice.
There is a lot of food given in the meals, maybe a little too much, as I fear there could be lots of waste. We couldn’t finish ours although it was lovely to try different things. Also note you cannot see Fuji anywhere near the hotel, we stupidly didn’t realise this and were sad when we couldn’t see it on the clear morning. This is not the hotels fault, just warning others booking.

Very friendly front staff who speak English and very helpful.. The Japanese style breakfast (included) is well plated and tasted yummy. We ordered dinner for the first night of stay and were extremely satisfied. It"'s very convenient as the hotel is just in front of the bus stop from Hakone Yumoto station. Actually, I overlooked and forgot the detailed instructions on how to reach the hotel sent by email earlier. 😊. The room is a twin superior room with bath. .I would definitely return when I go there in future. Many thanks also to all the staff who are working hard.behind the scene. 🙌

Very good kaiseki dinners and set breakfasts, beautiful yukata robes and hanten jackets. Staff were very helpful. The lobby was a nice, warm and classy atmosphere and we loved picking out drinks from the gift shop after our baths. Being right outside a bus stop was very convenient too! Lots of other fun and lovely details but I'll leave them for you to discover :)
Nothing - there are some limitations that maybe more luxury options wouldn't have (e.g. having to book private onsen instead of having one in your room) but they've done a great job here of delivering a delightful ryokan experience at a more affordable price point than a lot of other places in Hakone!

Everything was absolutely perfect: the place, the location (although it is a bit further up from the Lake and the main attractions, but there is a bus, so there is no problem getting to places), the staff. I booked the dinner, the breakfast and the private onsen: it was a dream. Everything was absolutely delicious and the onsen was extremely relaxing. The staff is kind and welcoming. If I am ever going back to Hakone, I will definitely stay here again. Also, there is a cute souvenir shop near the reception, I truly suggest to check it out. The ryokan provided a yukata that you can wear on the premises, with instructions that proved very useful, and I thought it was a very nice touch. My biggest regret was not buying it at the souvenir shop mentioned before and not trying the public onsen.
Nothing, everything was amazing.

The location when arriving on public transport is excellent. Bus stop adjacent to entrance to hotel. The staff were friendly, spoke excellent English. Traditional room which was basic but clean. Loved the traditional clothing which the vast majority of guests wore for dinner and some the next morning too for breakfast. The stay was half board so dinner and breakfast included. What a feast we were treated too, so much food and an ideal chance to taste foods you probably wouldn’t choose ordinarily. The sashimi in particular was amazing. The breakfast was equally generous but was Japanese. You have the option of using the public onsen for free or if you prefer you can book a private onsen, which we did. A good, relaxing experience.
Nothing, had an idea what to expect, it didn’t disappoint and was good value for money.

The traditional Japanese room was very spacious with two futon beds. It was great to be able to open the window and breathe in the fresh mountain air. The highlight of the stay was breakfast and dinner, a kaiseki menu. It was simply delicious. We loved the outdoor pool with real thermal water. We would also like to mention the traditional massage we received from two local ladies in our room. It was just wonderful and we can highly recommend it.
What I discovered is that most non-Japanese tourists are unfamiliar with Japanese hygiene in an onsen. To be honest, this hurt me a lot, having visited many onsen before. If you are looking for a real onsen experience, then you will have to go far away from the international tourist hot spots.
