If you want to stay in an authentic Nepalese hotel with genuine hospitality, then the Kantipur Temple Hotel is definitely for you. The hotel is built with traditional red bricks and is decorated throughout with intricate wooden carvings and niches. It instantly gives you a sense of place and cultural authenticity. The rooms are clean and spacious. There's a pleasant terrace and lawned area outside. The hotel is very close to the hustle bustle of the shops, restaurants, cafes and bars of Thamil but inside it feels incredibly peaceful and secluded. It took us about 15 minutes to walk to Durbar Square from the hotel and the Monkey Temple is another 30 minute walk from the square. We used taxis to reach other tourist attractions, which are readily available around the hotel and very reasonably priced. It is an eco-hotel so there's no air-conditioning but the traditional design of the building with the bedroom windows facing into a deep atmospheric inner courtyard keeps the rooms shaded and cool. There is no central heating but there is an electric blanket on the bed and the staff provided us with a heater when we were a bit chilly. Similarly, when we asked for a kettle and a hairdryer, they brought us one within minutes and we were allowed to keep them for the remainder of our stay. The shower is hot and water is plentiful though guests are asked to be mindful of water wastage. The hotel makes an effort to reduce plastic waste by providing a copper pitcher of fresh drinking water in the rooms which can be replenished at reception. There is free Wi-fi. The breakfast is varied and plentiful and the service attentive. Overall, I would give top marks to this hotel for its welcoming atmosphere, its incredible serenity and its uncompromising commitment to conservation and sustainability.

Outstanding all staff members are nice, welcoming and helpful, you really feel your among friends. Whether you want to ask for directions/places to go or have a deep meaningful conversation about religion/culture philosophy/ they are there for you (shout out to all of ye!) The place is mesmerising. very authentic. Special thank for the staff always looking out for me checking on my pick up appointment and keeping my luggage during my trekking trip. Superb breakfast and great Nepali coffee. comfortable beds and very quiet at night. Being eco-friendly does not mean compromised comfort at all. if you think not having AC is a problem every room has a fan and was sufficient at least in mid Sep.

Very warm and cosy. You get to experience authentic Nepali traditional living devoid of the distractions of modern day technology. It offers a tranquil oasis with warm cosy beds and turndown service. Best sleep i have had in Thamel. The restaurant also serves the most delicious red thai curry.

After having last visited Kathmandu 27 years ago, which has not surprisingly changed considerably since then, it was so gratifying stay at the Kantipur Temple house which prides itself on maintaining Nepalese culture and traditions. The building architecture is amazing and well preserved. There's also a beautiful courtyard and lawn area to relax. Located on the outskirts of Thamel, it's walking distance to the restaurant precinct, yet far enough to escape the hussle and bussel. The highlight would have to be the staff who go above and beyond to make your stay a memorable one. We hope to be back soon..."Danyabad" 🙏

Kantipur Temple House is amazing authentic hotel, very centrally located in Kathmandu. The building is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable. But we do want to highlight the amazing service the staff provides - they were extremely accommodating to all our asks. Every evening the room was heated and prepared for the night - electric blankets, heater, water bottles, really makes you feel cozy. Beyond that, we were able to leave our bags at the hotel, while going for a trek in Pokhara. Our flight was delayed so the staff at the hotel helped us transport the bags to the airport before our next flight to Delhi. Extremely responsive and helpful! We also had very good meals at the hotel. Definitely recommend it!

Beautiful building. Quiet and serene garden. Close to everything but a lovely retreat from the mayhem. A lovely start to our trip. We did appreciate rhe filtered water option as opposed to plastic bottles.

I thought it was overpriced. The building is beautiful but the rooms are still fairly basic and quite dark. It is alot more expensive than other good options in Kathmandu. A few added extras would have been expected like a free Airport transfer and coffee/tea facilities in your room, maybe breakfast included. Sitting in the garden enjoying a beer in the grounds of this majestic building was lovely. It just wasn't value for money compared to many lovely options in the locality so we didn't return as we came and went from Kathmandu.

I liked a lot: Hotel is a very nice building, situated very well in center, the very kind staff and mostly the warming bottles in the bed. I liked a lot the food, they have in their restaurant. As I got thick, the staff brought me medikaments and the, this was really very kind and I preciate this a lot. Thank you for that.

I didn't like: The shower didn't work all the time, and the toilet inside looked very. dirty, they have cleaned it every day, but it still looked dirty.

A truly beautiful property that looks and feels very impressive. The rooms are very spacious and quiet, and the beds are comfortable. The location of the hotel is the high point, since it's close to the tourist area Thamel as well as Kathmandu Durbar Square. We could walk a few minutes every day to reach restaurants and bars in the Thamel area and could visit all the Durbar Square attractions easily on foot. Yet, the property is in a lane that is very quiet and peaceful. All the members of the staff were very courteous, helpful and efficient. We felt very welcome in the hotel.

The hotel is rightly conscious of avoiding plastic waste, which is great. So there are almost no toiletries provided in the rooms, which is odd for a hotel in this range. I think shampoo, etc., can be provided in non-plastic containers. Otherwise remember to carry your own. On all the five days, we had the exact same breakfast menu, which was boring. Some variations should be offered on different days.

Overall vibe of the hotel felt like I was staying in a Newari temple from Middle Ages. The design of the room was very pretty and the details were exceptional. The person who has done a design of this hotel did a very good job. The staff is trained nicely and very polite. Dressed in national Nepali dress. They do a great job preserving Nepali culture at this place. It was a unique experience to stay there. I could NOT pick up a note of arrogance or any strange moods (some classy hotels have it in Nepal, as well as staff being overly familiar with clients, which is very unpleasant). So this respectful distance they have is a great plus I think. The manager Sajna, who took care of me during my stay, was very helpful and nice. Very nice lady. I like how they promote sustainability and reduce the use os plastic. The hotel has a garden area, which is quiet rare in Kathmandu and thus a nice addition to the overall stay. Located in the very quiet area and the location is convenient. This is also valuable for Kathmandu, so after a day of sightseeing and all this big city rush, nice to come back to a nice a quiet place. They did free upgrade me to the super deluxe room and Gosh, pleasant it was. I was staying in the hotel off season, so there was no yoga classes due to monsoon. But yoga is complimentary with the stay and they say it is happening at the rooftop every morning. I would love to try that next time I’m at Kathmandu.

The building respects the Nepali culture and tradition, it is built with brick and carved wood finishes. I think it is a hotel that avoids the stereotyped international hotels to concentrate on Nepali values. Everything takes place in a natural environment, without excesses, the lack of television explains everything, it is not only a hotel where you can spend the night but also to relax and find yourself in the silence of the night. Despite the fact that Kathmandu is a noisy and lively city, in the hotel you can find a haven of peace and tranquility. I would definitely stay at this hotel again if I ever return to Kathmandu.

I can't say there's anything I didn't like, but if I should say something, in my opinion, the electrical outlets should be checked, at least in the room where I stay.
