We had a great time staying at the Catalonia Plaza Mayor over the New Year period. The hotel itself is comfortable, clean and is furnished to a high standard. The staff are lovely and welcoming and very helpful. The breakfast on offer is excellent and we also enjoyed the New Year’s Eve dinner which the chefs altered to allow for specific dietary requirements without any fuss. We were well looked after and would certainly stay again.

Location was perfect - very central, with easy access to all areas of the City. Even though we were in the City, the room was well insulated from the noise and we didn’t hear anything at night - it was very comfortable and a great nights sleep. The breakfast was very well presented and a really good selection. The team were very welcoming and helpful.

If I had to pick anything, I would have liked more coffee and milk in the room. 1 drink each per day was not enough for us - there was a good selection of tea but not enough milk (even if we had wanted to drink tea). I’m sure if we’d asked, they would have provided more.

I really loved the location, everything was close to the hotel. The room itself was very clean and comfortable. The shower was amazing and they provide all the cool stuff like a shower cap, a comb, q-tips, complimentary water and etc. We really appreciated that the hotel staff let us check-in 2,5 hours earlier as we’ve arrived from Barcelona at 12pm and needed to rest and refresh (they had our room ready and the hotel wasn’t full the night before). They also stored all of our baggage the next day before our flight. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, it was great!

- Arrival checkin was quick and easy, the reception staff ensured we could get our room earlier than official checkin - Bed and pillows were great, mattress may be too firm for some but were perfect for us - Great bathroom amenities, luxurious towels and great showers with excellent water pressure - Housekeeping were great and in the evening left a chocolate with the turndown service - Breakfast was amazing! Lots of fresh and tasty options, everything you could want was available on the buffet - LOCATION! We arrived by train into Atocha, walked easily to the hotel. Great food options surround this hotel, we loved the location!!!

We requested a quiet room, and our room on the 5th floor (European’ 4th) was very quiet. It was facing the hotel’s inner courtyard. The location is perfect. You can walk to the Cathedral, Royal Palace, Opera Theater, Plaza Mayor, San Miguel Market, Puerto del Sol, multiple restaurants, etc. The room has enough space and the bed is comfortable though slightly softer than we like. The bathroom is big. You will have enough space for your stuff. The shower is roomy. The shower handles are not underneath the shower heads (the rain head and the handheld one) so you will not get completely wet by turning a wrong handle. The hotel reception staff is fluent in English and ready to help. We arrived early and left our suitcases and backpacks until the check-in with no problems. They also will help you with suitcases. They ordered a taxi to the airport for us and taxi arrived in a few minutes.

Nothing to dislike.

The rooms were quite large and the location was perfect. We were easily able to walk to all the places we wanted to visit. The hotel breakfast was really good with a huge selection. Staff were nice and helpful.

The beds were surprisingly uncomfortable. We could feel the mattress springs while sleeping and the beds were really hard making it challenging to sleep well. This part of the stay was disappointing after long days of sightseeing when we were tired.

Perfect location located a short distance by walk to the main station, the main museums, main plazas, main food outlets everything was easy to access by foot did not need to use taxis/public transport, room was very spacious, fridge and desk provided, double balcony was also great, slippers/robes/toiletries provided. Location was so fantastic we decided to extend our stay by 4 nights on their direct website

Reception staff could be friendlier as we didn’t receive much help with extending our stay directly and instead were told to just check the website and that they are unable to confirm if rooms are available etc. and breakfast price was €21/pp which we decided to skip as several independent cafes available next door to the hotel

Breakfast was OK. Hotel location was good and the staff friendly and helpful. The Reina Sofia and Prado museums were very good! Excellent paintings by Picasso, Dali and Caravaggio. Diinner at Botin Restaurant was fabulous!! We also visited the Tablao Flamenco 1911 that was breathtaking!

Taxi service- especially returning back to the hotel was difficult as the drivers didn’t speak English and Booking.com’s taxi service was expensive and difficult to get the driver to pick us up from Prado Museum! Very much a hit and miss affair.

short stay.

This location could not be better. For being on such a major street, the double doors / windows make it completely silent from outside street noise and the room is very spacious yet private. I was on the second floor and couldn't hear the noise below with the windows closed.

The amenities were missing odd things such as wash cloths, tissue boxes and conditioner. Other hotels often provide these things but they weren't a big deal since we were only there a few nights. They did provide a tiny pack of a couple of tissues but with the cold weather those didn't hold us over so we picked up our own from a nearby store.
