A really cool and funky hostel! I was really impressed with the aesthetics of the accommodation. The roof top bar was amazing! Great drinks and a lovely place to spend the evening. Brilliant location, walking distance to so many restaurants and beauty spots.
The staff were very temperamental. Some staff looked like they really didn't want to be there and came across very aloof and unapproachable. Kudos to Nick from Miami who made an effort to come and chat to us. Other staff please take note. It really doesn't hurt to acknowledge guests and give them a smile once in a while! Also, a shame the hot tubs were out of use.

Great location, clean comfortable room (4 pple) with private bathroom, curtains / outlet / light, private storage under bed, place to hang out downstairs and also a rooftop bar that you could hang out.
Locker storage system, had to pay for storing luggage after checkout. And it was confusing, you had to select the number of the locker & size and pay in advance, I ended up choosing one too small and couldn't change after, had to go to the reception, but they refunded me. Expensive drinks in the rooftop (5 eur a wine glass) and didn't feel a community vibe, was more if you already had a group.

Profesional, helpful, and lovely receptionist. Easy to access the rooms. Good bed management. Close to grocery's, main roads, and many others. Clean/fresh bed sheets. Cleanliness is taken seriously. Nice Lobby. Muchas Gracias!
Just saw some dust at one spot, but it was not dirtiness. It's not a problem for me, but in the reception in the ceiling just above the receptionists desk, there are the air systems: It's very loud, i can't imagine, and it will not be surprising if receptionists have a headache at the end of their 8-hour shifts. Posibility to put some anti-sound foam!

Location is superb, a few steps away from the Gran via and just a few blocks away from Plaza España, Plaza Mayor, Mercado de San Miguel and several metro stations too. Everything looks clean and new. Shared areas (especially the bar at the rooftop) are very nice.
I stayed on a 4-bed room that was indeed a bit on the smaller side. Like other reviews mention, there is no shampoo or soap available inside the shower BUT you can find that next to the sink outside it. I found a bit weird that my floor had separate showers but no bathrooms, so if the bathroom at your room is occupied, only thing left to do is wait patiently.

Location was perfect 👌🏼 Right in the middle of the city, it was easy to move around the city and almost everything on walking distance. My family and I enjoyed the breakfast buffet; basic things but the essential. The lift was very convenient. We asked for transport from the hotel to MAD airport, taxi arrived in 5 minutes with a fixed price of €33; host solved it in a minute and she was very efficient. The room was a bit packed for 4 people, but we only used it to sleep, no biggie. Beds were comfortable, even the bunk bed. Highly recommended!
Rooms are small; it is OK for a few days, though

The location is excellent. The metro is nearby, but you can do a lot on foot. It's next to Gran Via. I stayed in a shared room, but the bed comfort was excellent. The hostel is very organized, and the breakfast is well served.
When I went, there was a school trip happening, which sometimes caused shouting in the hallways, and people spoke a bit loudly in the common areas. However, I wouldn't take this into account too much as it was a one-off situation. What disappointed me the most was the rooftop. I thought it would be a place where everyone could relax at will, but I realized that if you don't consume anything at the bar, it's not quite like that. And when the bar isn't open, it stays somewhat closed. As a result, there isn't much common area to stay in. In my case, the common areas always had children shouting, haha.

Generator Hostel is a very straightforward, super well organised Hostel right in the city center. In a female dorm of 8, you get a bed and a locker, there is space to put your things on either a coat hanger or a shelf, and there is a shared toilet+sink+shower in the room. That's a perfect basis! You can also buy everything you need at the reception: flipflops, earplugs, showergel, which came in super handy!
Being right in the city center means that the streets can be a bit loud at times, although the windows do an ok job at isolating sound. The room and bed were clean, mostly also because the guests seemed to take super good care of being tidy and clean. It could have needed a thorough scrubdown for the little details, but thats me being very very picky and the rotation of guests doesn't really allow it I think. On the last day, I left my luggage in the common lockerroom, which costs 4-6€.

Great Location, Great Value for the Price! Easy access. My room (Family room) was with a view on inside garden, so it was pretty quiet there.
Not much to say, but at one night there was a drunk visitor making much noise in entrance (probably the football fan after Madrid vs Stuttgart game), shouting an hitting at the doors and it lasted more than half an hour in the middle of the night. Someone (guest of the hotel) let this guy quiet.

The location was excelent, the property is nice, staff is great, I had a good experience!
The idea of having a bathroom and a shower inside the room sounds good but when you share with other 7 people with different routines, schedules and upbringings, this is a bit bothering. However, it was manageable. The only thing that really doesn’t make sense in the room is the hair dryer. That should be somewhere outside so that it can be used independently of sleep schedules.

I have been in Spain as an American Pilgrim on the Camino (Francés) de Santiago for 50 days and 50 nights starting on April 4, 2024. After initially staying 2 nights at a BnB in Madrid and the following night at a nice hotel in Pamplona, I stayed the remaining 47 nights in albergues, monasteries, hostels, and finally the mega-hostel Generator Madrid for 2 nights. All of these communal accommodations win my heart hands down with no comparison to the standard luxury hotel. The metropolitan atmosphere and sheer size of Generator Madrid (> 500 beds) does not diminish the underlying hospitality that was at the core of nearly all of the Camino albergues. Note that the medieval pilgrims were largely provided lodging, food, and care by monasteries initially, and then also by community buildings called “Hospitales” in Spanish. I would not be surprised if the English word “hospitality” is derived from these Old World albergues that were called Hospitales. The main attendant at an albergue is called an “Hospitalero.” At Generator Madrid, the service has been excellent. I arrived for check-in at 1 AM after 6-1/2 hours of bus and then high-speed train travel from Finisterre to Santiago to Madrid. The 24/7 reception desk was attended by a bilingual receptionist, Jesús, who was muy amable y animado, even at 2 AM. I was the last guest to leave my 8-bed dormitory room at 10:15 AM, and the cafeteria staff, Rushyl and Jiana, were very welcoming, and did not rush me as I did not arrive for breakfast until 10:45 AM. Breakfast service ends at 11 AM. The next time I am traveling in a metropolis anywhere in the world, I will seek out a hostel like Generator. I hope my wife will be open to this communal alternative.
The lack of clarity if there were any times of the day that it was OK to bring one’s own food into the dining area adjacent to the lounge area that was part of the communal space in Planta -1. The lounge didn’t really have any tabletop space appropriate for laying out one’s food.
