We spent a great 2 nights at this hotel and will definitely come back. The building is beautiful, and a spring or summer stay must be great so that you can enjoy the lovely and huge garden (The February weather did not allow it in our case). Staff were really nice and made us feel very welcome despite having a dog with us who was quite excitable on the first day / evening. It was really convenient to get to footpath for a very long, circular and scenic walk to Symonds-Yat. Food offering was great for dinner, and breakfast choices were plentiful. We would very much recommend this place for a nice and quiet weekend away and will come back.

we liked nearly everything about the apartment ,the staff are excellent , the food is very good ,we have stayed here before and we will stay here again as we like the apartments and the inside of apartment was clean and comfortable , and we love the area.

the downside was bigger than last time we stayed ,so i feel it needs a mention, the outside tables chairs and balcony could do with a cleaning as it was quite nice weather but it was mucky with so many cobwebs in the sitting area of balcony , but what wasn't nice leading into our apartments was lots of bird mess and feathers ,feathers and mess was quite old and been there a while, and they did try to clean it up when i asked if they could, but in saying this we love it there and we will be booking again

Impressive building with lots of interesting history. I enjoyed eating breakfast and dinner in the Great hall. Upgraded from the standard room to one with a balcony which was a good move as the upgraded room in the West Wing was fairly small .Clean , with a comfortable bed and great shower. Parking on site and in a good position to explore the attractions of the area.

I enjoyed the stay and have no major dislikes however the public bar was usually busy so it was difficult to find spaces to sit with a drink after eating and we found ourselves having to go back to the small room . This is why we were so grateful for the balcony! There is a lovely garden if it’s decent weather and a tiny sitting room, but this too was always very busy.

Location was great, I was on a serious R&R retreat, the room was compact but was ok as I was travelling alone, not sure I’d want a companion in the room I was allocated. I booked room only and breakfast was an extra cost of £15.00 but there was a limited cold selection and I ordered the full English, while it looked small 1sausage, 1 bacon 3 mushrooms, half tomatoe and a slice of black pudding the quality was excellent and there was also a toasting machine with both white and brown bread on offer.

I was in the room above the entrance which was ok, but I’m glad I was travelling alone. There was some very high boxing in that ran half way along the wall at the end of the bed, which was very narrow to the wall. Wallpaper was lifting in some areas in the bedroom. Grouting in En suite was grubby in shower cubicle ( a little bleach would solve this) and missing in some places!

This was our second time to this hotel - which should tell you that we liked it the first time. We had one of their feature rooms, which was large and well furnished with soft chairs and a four-poster bed. We had an evening meal and breakfast, both of which were very nice. A wide selection of options for breakfast. There is a small garden at the front and very large one at the rear with lots of chairs.

Getting to the room is fun, as you have to go up two flights of stairs, into the apex of the roof and over the top of the dining room. Not hard and well decorated, but you do have to be reasonably fit and agile. As you would expect with a property this old, the floors are not flat and creak quite a lot. The lighting in the room was a little dim, but it had windows overlooking the back garden. The bathroom was quite small and the entrance to it was small and narrow.

Lovely old building. Friendly and attentive staff. Decent breakfast with local produce (milk and bread). Cosy and clean room. Good WiFi coverage.

The soap in bathroom. Well intentioned maybe, but misguided. It really didn't work very well. Get some decent stuff in. There's a lot of adapters and extension leads going on. Obviously, in such an old building, there may be a limit on what can be done in terms of electrical supply and wiring, but it made me wonder about fire regulations. Hotel sign outside looks daft if not lit up properly. Use it or lose it.

The staff here were wonderful! From the moment we walked in, Tori was the epitome of a warm welcome. As a last-minute booking, we truly hadn't been expecting too much, so were completely blown away with the history of this place. Kevin, Milly and the lady who had worked with horses (can't remember her name now..), all of them were just marvelous. The gardens here are also beautiful - just what we needed after a full day of hiking and exploring.

Well, I would say that, in general, you have to look passed the fact that the furnishings / interior spaces are a bit 'tired.' The rooms are clean, however, and the history of the place and the extremely friendly staff totally eclipse that fact. The quality of the locally sourced food was good but the menu was not quite right - just a bit old fashioned and mixed up. Still, had the best sausage I've ever had - so that can't be bad! ;-)

The main reason I haven’t awarded the property full marks is because when booking, I selected the more expensive option for the same rooms as I was led to believe by booking.com that breakfast would be included in the price. Upon arrival to the property, I was then asked to pay extra for breakfast to be included, as the hotel staff showed me on their screen that the information they had received from booking.com did not include breakfast. This put a dampener on an otherwise lovely stay, and in the future if I were to stay at the property again, I would not use booking.com to secure the rooms, and I would contact the hotel directly. I have also been led to believe that this is not the first time this has happened and other guests have been affected by this issue as well.

Lovely old manor house surrounded by the forest. All the food was excellent. There is also a separate gourmet canine menu, they are very dog friendly. We stayed in one of the four poster bedrooms. The bed was so comfortable we struggled to get up in the morning. All the staff were deliteful and couldn't have been more helpful. We have already agreed that we are going to go back over the summer time for a mid week break next time. Still so much to see and do. If visiting any time of year at a weekend, be sure to book if you want to eat as they are very busy.

The weather.

All staff lovely and helpful and knowledgeable. Would recommend a compact double for a one or two night stay if you plan to spend minimal time in the room it would be suitable. The bathroom was lovely, clean and modern. Restaurant is good but be aware the food is on the more expensive side but food was good and locally sourced. Free parking.

Room decor was a bit dated. No decaf options in the tea trolley. Compact double is very small/compact!
