the evening meal was excellent and great value , the location was beautiful and the rooms were comfortable.

the attention. to detail was lacking. At breakfast, they had run out of beans and orange juice and there were no yogurts available. The only fruit available was oranges. WiFi was not great. We had a chalet room and could not get any WiFi there

We came for the location, it is in perfect position to start kayaking at Kerne Bridge. There is also a short 20min walk to Goodrich Castle. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Despite an issue with original room we booked, they sorted us out with a choice of alternatives. We were also greeted with a warm welcome at breakfast :) View from the room window was great, overlooking the Wye and in sight of the Castle. We had the Steak and the Salmon for dinner and it was excellent. Breakfast was also excellent, portion size was perfect.

Will maybe try the Chalet to avoid the noise from the bar and the road. Not a massive amount of noise but a little bit disturbing.

Clean and friendly, the 2 main young ladies on the bar and reception were amazing. Breakfast ladies were also very good. Nothing was too much trouble. Dog treated really well too.

The young lad on the first breakfast of our stay, had no customer service skills, didn't say good morning or interact at all apart from to ask us what we wanted. Didn't explain how you help yourself to fruit juices, cereal etc and that you can make your own toast, although pretty self explanatory, but the ladies explained everything.

Great welcome, friendly and helpful staff, comfortable bed. decent choice of food with adequate portions. Other reviews have criticised WiFi and phone signal. We didn't make use of WiFi but we had adequate phone signal in both main building and chalet room (EE mobile).

As others have remarked, decoration and furnishings throughout need attention but we only stayed one night so no real issue for us. Steps to/from carpark should be negotiated with care. Outside treads are very close together with very shallow drops. Inside staircase was poorly lit.

The breakfast was very good, the dinner menu was very good. All the meals were enjoyable. We had a chalet and it was large and comfortable, could have done with a second chair, en suite was a little small but adequate for one night. Everywhere was very clean and we had a good coffee/tea tray. Lovely views from outside the chalet and a very good nights sleep

The complete lack of phone signal and wifi. We were unable to use our phones or iPads for the 24 hours we were there. This should not be the case in 2024.

*.Clean rooms, . *Totally Dog friendly (which is a deal breaker for me.) *Lovely friendly staff. *Yummy breakfast .Would I recommend it .... Yes Absolutely

The only thing I have to say against my stay was that the phone signal in our room was none existant and the wifi signal also didn't reach the room so to get in touch with family it was a case of going to the bar or outside, wouldn't normally bother me but I was with my 91yr old mum and wanted to tell them we arrived safely

on arrival a warm welcome and shown personally to room well equipped hostess tray . Room large clean and comfortable Easy parking Was offered help with case varied breakfast cooked to order. The use of a key rather than a charged card appreciated

Difficulty in pulling window shut it had blown well out of easy reach need window hook. No cleaning of room during stay and no replacement to hostess tray but on asking this was quickly rectified. Noisy at times traffic very busy out of their hands . Yellow /black tape to indicate a trip hazard on steps in corridor to rooms needs urgent replacing it is frayed dark and not very clear and is a trip risk in its own right. Extractor fan so loud and window does not open in shower area . Very high step into shower and I found it difficult to turn shower of. It is old but does need a full refurbishment in many areas

Views across the hills were beautiful. The pub is situated close to the River Wye ( although you can't see it in summer due to trees) I think you'd also have views of Goodrich Castle and Flanesford Priory at other times of the year. The pub building is quaint and tastefully decorated and the dining area nicely spaced out.The bedroom was also nicely decorated and furnished and clean. There was plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits. Beds were very comfortable and the bed linen clean and fresh. The shower was hot and powerful. The staff were helpful and friendly and I'd like to thank Mike for all his help. He is a font of knowledge about the local area and recent history and went above and beyond to find some information I was seeking.

Our room ( room 9) was over the kitchen so we had the loud air conditioning drone. However it did go off 9pm until breakfast next morning. The bathroom door latch didn't work so the door didn't shut properly. We were a bit disappointed with breakfast as we're not great fans of cooked breakfast and the choice of cereals was basic (didn't include muesli, granola or porridge) Also no orange juice one of the mornings. Other moans - poor TV reception ( unwatchable) Wi-fi and phone signal very poor or non existent.

We revisited this 4 years on for our wedding anniversary again and we love it just as much as the first time. The staff were lovely. They couldn't do enough for you and so friendly. The Inn itself is very clean through out and welcoming and also animal friendly. The chalets are very clean and comfortable. The only thing I'd suggest is that it would benefit from a mini fridge and blackout curtains (very bright in summer months) the TV signal isn't great but we didn't really watch TV. The breakfast is nice, service from the waiting/bar staff was outstanding. My only criticism is that it was very slow service from the kitchen staff. Both days we went down early and it was only us/very quiet but it did take 30-40mins for breakfast to come. The evening food was good. I just found that unless you are into burgers the menu is a little limited (for us anyway) it would be nice to see some traditional classics or specials. The cheesy chips and nachos were very nice to snack on. Drink selection is good and fair on price :) The Play Bus for children is amazing! Keeps them entertained and is only £2.50 for 1 hour. It's great that you can sit and enjoy a drink and chat whilst being reassured they are in sight, safe and having fun. Lots of outdoor benches to sit at when weather is good. Nearby I'd recommend: - walk down the river at symonds yat (very nice walk) they also do a boat trip - butterfly zoo, maze and mini golf - great if you have children and fun for adults too - king arthurs cave - Newbridge farm - great for children - Goodrich Castle - lovely to walk around and do have some activities on for children. Cheap if you hold a English heritage membership. - The Hen and Dot tea room/cafe - beautiful scenery and tasty treats, brunch and snacks. About 5 minute to walk from the Inn too. The stilton and walnut scone is lovely. Great selection of cakes.

There was nothing really that we didn't like my only comments if I were to be very picky would be... - mini fridge and blackout curtains for chalet. - some more traditional/special options for menu ad opposed to burgers - a little slow for breakfast to come out Other than that I cannot fault :) would happily stay again.

A very nice place to stay. Room was clean, and comfortable. Free parking right outside. The Inn was very cosy. Food was great, and the staff were very friendly. Good value for the money. The location was very good if you want access to the Forest of Dean and all it offers.

The only downside was that the WiFi signal in the chalets was very poor, and there were only 3 channels on the TV. But we were out and about most of the time so it didn't bother us.
