Norma is a wonderful hostess. She is so friendly and helpful and always has the residents’ best interests in mind. Along with her staff, the Westbourne Lodge gives a homey vibe to travellers, especially to long time solo travellers who are homesick. Norma welcomed me at the door when I arrived, and has been so helpful during my stay. Norma’s kitchen is spacious and very well equipped, full of electrical appliances you can name. There is a lovely garden in the Lodge as well, where you can spend a great time with yourself and your dog if you have one. The Lodge is well located in a quiet neighbourhood. I could hear bird songs all day long. There is a big window in my room with a nice view of the greenery nearby. It is close to bus stops where you can travel to different areas of the city easily. I cannot speak enough about the good things about Norma and the Lodge.

I haven’t used the launderette, so I cannot comment on that.

Westbourne Lodge experience was great for me. It was relaxing, calm and serene. I enjoyed having outdoor space at the garden and a large kitchen to cook my meals. I also enjoyed the great company of the host's family, helpful housekeepers and relaxed fellow lodgers. The place was clean and my room was large with all the amenities I needed including welcome tea, coffee and milk throughout my stay (very nice). I enjoyed the large bath and spacious bathroom. I was able access a good number locations near me like the University of Birmingham, The Botanical Gardens, and High Street among others. I look forward to my next stay at Westbourne Lodge when my travels take me back to Birmingham.

Very nice hotel with a lovely owner/hostess. Our room was spacious with two comfortable chairs, and the bathroom was modern and clean. The bed was very comfortable too, and there was parking space for several cars in front of the lodge. You can make tea and coffee (provided by the hostess) with an electric kettle in the room, and there's also a mini-fridge. We had a very nice stay here.

Although stated on booking.com Westbourne Lodge is not a bed&breakfast (anymore), as guests must provide their own breakfast. However, there is a well equipped kitchen, with enough space in the fridge to store your own food (supermarket is only a 5 minute walk away), shared with the other guests, and a comfy dining room/lounge. Tea and coffee are always available, free of charge.

The owner and the staff at this Lodge were amazing always asking if everything was okay if we needed something. They arranged for a cab when we needed one no problem at all. Beds were comfy room was large. We booked 5 weeks before we travelled so unfortunately no main floor room was available there is no lift so if mobility is a problem might not be for you. Ask them tho if they have it they will do what they can for you.

The location was ideal. Very close to frequent bus routes but off the main road enough to make it quieter. The host, Norma, was absolutely lovely; as were the others I met in my two week stay. The room was nice and warm and the shower was ok. The bed was comfortable.

The coin-operated laundry facilities were not good. I wish I'd used a launderette instead; it certainly would have been cheaper and more controllable.

As a musician and professor, I’ve travelled a great deal over the past 25 years and can honestly attest that Westbourne Lodge provided some of the best hospitality I’ve ever experienced. The proprietor Norma was incredibly kind and attentive–but not at all in an obtrusive way. Literally perfect. Everything was extremely high quality. My room was lovely; spacious, very well-appointed with a desk, mini-fridge, kettle, milk and sugar, mugs, cups, saucers and spoons; extra pillows, blankets and towels, INCREDIBLY CLEAN–and quiet! A super comfy bed, and a beautiful garden view from the large window. Did I mention the large, charming garden in the back? I loved taking my morning coffee outside on the inviting patio. Everything in the hotel was in tip-top condition. Little things you may take for granted were perfect; for example, the bath sheets were huge, fluffy, 100 percent cotton, and so cozy. My private bathroom was wonderful; I love taking baths, and the water got as hot as I wanted and lasted forever. Amenities were ample, from shampoo and soap to tea, coffee and biscuits. Literally perfect. Considering how extremely reasonable the rates are, Westbourne Lodge provides incredible value for the price. Moreover, I felt very safe. Norma had everything arranged for maximum COVID protection. The dining and lounge areas were organized for optimal social distancing, but still cozy and inviting. While I was staying there the hotel was fully booked, yet I barely saw anyone. The kitchen was spacious, with multiple sinks, microwaves, refrigerators, freezers, and every imaginable appliance. The laundry room was equally spacious and well equipped. Again, the entire premises were extremely clean, plus there was hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes placed throughout. Furthermore, the location is brilliant - only a minute’s walk to two major bus routes, as well as a Tesco Express. Lastly, a great gym, an Aldi, and cute coffee and charity shops are only a 10-minute stroll.

Would highly recommend this place to any female single traveller. Everyone I saw that was staying there was really polite and friendly, I felt completely at ease being there on my own. Norma goes out of her way to make sure you are happy and will accommodate you as much as she can. My room was at the back looking out to the garden, nice and quiet. Fabulous large garden with lots of seating.

Needed a more comfortable desk chair as I spent quite a long time sitting at the desk using my laptop each night. Everything else was perfect!

I loved the homely feel of the place. The lady who ran it, Norma, was friendly and very welcoming and had a relaxed personality which in return, made me feel relaxed. I had an instant feeling of 'am going to like this place' when I entered the hotel. I loved the fact that you could just bring your own ingredients to cook yourself some food, what ever you wanted. A good sized kitchen which was well equipped was a helpful thing to have. The place was very clean and tidy. It was a nice touch that hot water bottles were provided, in case. (I've stayed in many hotels both in the UK and abroad, and it's the first time I've ever seen a hotel provide hot water bottles for guests. Lovely touch and I certainly appreciated and used it!

The decor of the room I stayed in was a little dated and could use some fresh coats of paint and I noticed that the paint on the wall against which the bed's headboard was against, had chipped away and it was so obvious. It would also be useful to have blinds on the windows for more privacy because, once you open the curtains, there was no privacy from passers but or people in the houses opposite. All that said, the room was comfortable and clean and I would defo stay there again.

Hidden gem, don't let the outside fool you. This is a well kept property, it boasts great sized well equipped rooms, with fresh linen , flannel, and ampul toiletries. Norma is a great host and very accommodating, thank you for the free upgrade. The communal spaces are fantastic, a well equipped kitchen is available, the dining room leads into a well groomed garden where I drank my coffee while listening to the birds chirping, there is also an additional sitting room.. If you are planning a longer stay there are payable laundry facilities on site Love the free parking, the location has great bus links, there are restaurants and supermarkets in walking distance.

The headboard in my room needs some TLC. No curtains or blinds in the room this would be okay if you're at the back of the property.

Norma and the crew are incredibly hospitable, friendly and welcoming. An unassuming lodge of great quality filled with a family-like atmosphere and a warm, homely vibe. I loved my time at Normas. There's also a beautiful, big garden, which is very well kept.

That I had to leave! I could of easily have lived here.
