Super friendly staff Great location for visiting the area (good links to main roads to all nearby cities & towns) The building & grounds felt very grand (it's a wedding venue) Plenty of free parking

Only minor things, but: It took us the first day to figure out that you need your key to hold the door unlocked to close it quietly. Otherwise, you need to slam it shut (very hard). The rooms were a little hot/stuffy (in July) & the windows were very difficult to open. The fan provided was rattling loudly, so was very annoying/unusable. The shower was a little compact/small & very underpowered.

What a secret Gem. This hotel was fantastic on arrival I was met by the lovely kind positive young man who upgraded my room and passionately talked about the local area and history of the hotel and its grounds. Explains about the coal mining industry of the local area. Extremely friendly. Best welcome I have ever recieved in any hotel. I was upgraded to a garden room, wow it eas beautiful. Extrememmy clean very spacious and lovely spa bath and separate shower. The room had its own heating which eas very easy to use and the room was warm and comfortable. The bed and sheets were very comfortable and excellent quality. Outside there is a little table and chairs and a lovely area to sit in with twinkling lights. Overall I will definatley be returning here and hopefully will sample the restaurant next time. 5*plus

Nothing everything eas great.

The staff were all friendly, attentive, and always smiling. The room was clean, the bed gorgeous and very comfortable. We didn't use the walk-in shower, so I cannot comment. But the bath tub in our room was wonderful. I haven't had such a relaxing bath in ages. The Sunday roast was good, served very quickly too. Breakfast was also good. We both had eggs benedict, again swiftly served. He had pastries to start, I had fresh fruit and yoghurt. A nice cafetiere of coffee and orange juice (with decent sized glasses and cups), which made a refreshing change. A terrific find. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. Will definitely return.

As we drove through a housing estate before we arrived, I was a little hesitant. I needn't have been. Bowburn Hall Hotel is lovely. Once inside, you completely forget all about it.

The food was absolutely delicious and served piping hot. Great choice on the menu and the barman even made a special effort with my daughter’s mocktail! All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the bedroom was absolutely spotless. The decor is beautiful, even the ladies restroom with the giant flamingo! We are already planning our return stay. Highly recommend this property for dinner / an overnight stay to explore Durham.

There was absolutely nothing to dislike. I have stayed in hotels that have cost significantly more than this, but have been nowhere near as good. Thank you!

Staff were friendly. Food in the restaurant was lovely. Room was well-equipped. The hotel itself is a lovely old building with a very nice garden area which is clearly a great venue for weddings and celebrations.

The walls between rooms were extremely thin. Fortunately my neighbours were also very quiet but I could hear them moving around. The hotel is in a residential area with very little in the immediate area (within walking distance), so eating and drinking is limited to the hotel bar and restaurant - which was very nice though.

Venue were lovely and the bedroom was nice and cosy with a very comfortable bed.

My partner and I ordered burgers from the venue and they came cooked medium rare which we both didn’t expect and if there was an option we would ask for well done. No waiter came and asked how our food was either so didn’t have an opportunity to mention it unless if we went to the bar to which we didn’t want to make a fuss out of our way. Also the overhead shower head leaked water all night despite being turned to the “off” position so had to close the bathroom door for the night. Thirdly and lastly, the tv remote stopped working/connecting to the tv late evening meaning we couldn’t watch TV the remainder of the night and had to turn it off to prevent upsetting neighbouring rooms. Overall, lovely stay though and actually thinking of booking this week again for my work visit.

Lovely comfortable room with fab contemporary bathroom with copper bath. Lovely food in restaurant with gorgeous & comfy conservatory. Garden area looked really nice but was a bit too cold to sit out.

Not many staff around, had to go looking for someone to check in & out. Room was so uncomfortably hot & also very bright in the morning- could do with a blackout blind in bathroom. Only served Sunday lunch all day Sunday so for our reservation at 7pm we had to have Sunday dinner, it was a lovely dinner, just expecting to be able to pick something off the menu.

I was having lots of work done on my house and was sick of being in the mess. So I hired a fantastic deep cleaner and moved out for the evening. Everything was amazing from the welcoming reception staff and bar staff. I had the Seafood Linguine and it was delicious. The lodges are great for that home from home experience. We departed full up on a beautiful Eggs Royale and sausage breakfast. Coffee is the best I’ve had OOH for a long time. Loved the body lotion too. Came home happy to a beautifully organised home❤️

The food was just as amazing as the staff that served it !. The food is locally sourced and there is such a variety to choose from especially if u are a fish lover I'd reccommend the prawns /sea bass👌 We stayed in the woodland lodge and found it ever so comftable , the walk in shower and jaccuzzi bath was fantastic. We went for our 15 year anniversary which we told the lady that booked it for us and when we arrived at the lodge we were greated by two swans and rose petals on the big queen size bed . The attention to detail was 2nd to none. The whole feel of the place with its original features and surrounding grounds was fantastic ! We are booking up fo another two nights in april and this time we are going to stay in the hall itself , the rooms look fab with the big four poster beds and free standing copper baths !. Amazing 10/10 Also , the bar caters for eveyones tipple 😀 Kelly and marc

I genuinely, genuinely mean this .... there was nothing that we didnt like , everything was amazing .

The garden chalets are always comfortable and clean. We have been a few times and enjoyed it each time. Each time has been for the party nights which are brilliant. We thoroughly enjoyed the 2 course meal and it was great atmosphere with the dancing. The staff are so friendly and helpful with my dietary needs. The breakfast was tasty..then we came home to pick our daughter up to go back to have Sunday lunch for the first time and it was exceptional. I would definitely recommend it and return ourselves to have another lunch.
